OOC: This is what is normally known as the 'Introduction Thread' for the Event. This specific thread is solely for Oto and Suna shinobi, so if you are not in these villages please do not post here. For an explanation of what the general scene would be like refer to Raive's fan fic 'Rise of Shiva'. We are not on land yet though, this is the ship ride from the gathered points of Suna and Oto shinobi to this 'Unknown' area.

IC:

A gust of biting wind tore across the ship and the sails flapped wildly as they soaked up the wind. Pulling his scarf up over his exposed mouth, Takai looked out ahead of him. He could barely see fifty metres ahead of him as a large expanse of mist covered the water. The silence was broken by the yowls of the wind as it swept around their position. It was like the wailing of the dying, an ominous omen if there was ever such one. Dancing around the objects on the deck, the wind snapping at all the lifeless shells of people on-board the ship. The long journey had taken its toll on the shinobi that had been selected. Movement was seen as an unnecessary expenditure of energy, energy which they now needed to just survive. His feet knocking against the wood as he walked, Takai surveyed the deck and checked those shinobi that had been forced up here as well. The ship lurched sideways and he could hear the sound of cracking and it had seemed as if the ship was coming closer to its goal. Around him as he walked large spikes of ice thrusted out of the mist and they were soon surrounded by the frozen knives. The wood of their ship only just managing to survive, it had been treated by chakra to weather these conditions. However that was such a long time ago, it could not last too much longer. The howling wind partnering the screeching of the ice against ship. Suddenly all sound was halted though, the ear-piercing winds ceased their gales and the ice no longer screamed as it was broken. Flapping was the only sound as the raging sails now limp and lifeless. Takai looked out and saw nothing but mist ahead of him, he reared back and ran to the other end of the ship.

Making sure not to fall as he skidded on the deck, he weaved in and out of those trying to conserve themselves. Jumping up the stairs he lost his balance and fell on the ice covered wood. Sliding on his stomach, Takai hit the wood hard. He picked himself up and looked over the balustrade, with his view unhindered he saw behind him. They had left the sea of ice bergs, but they were stuck in this expanse of dark water. There was no wind and they could not turn back now, those icebergs were not dangerous as you pass through them. However their shape, as if they were carved that way, would cause great stress if you attempted to return through them. Takai turned round and raced down the steps that he had climbed up, losing his footing slightly he came to a less than graceful stop. All around the ship he could only see was the blanket of white that was the mist. The ship gently rocking in the waters, but the sails not taking in any wind at all. The wind had disappeared as soon as they had entered these waters, it was a battle of attrition now. They had to receive some more wind soon, they were barely moving. Takai put up his hood and through his scarf he ushered those on the deck into the depths of the ship. He looked around the frozen wood and sighed slightly. "It's cold..." Takai jumped down into the lower decks and the entrance to the top deck was closed.

Music being played, smoke filling the lower decks, copious amounts of alcohol being consumed and the futile attempts of male shinobi trying to attract the interest of other shinobi. It was more like a bar than a ship filled with Shinobi that had been sent out on a mission and they seemed to revel in this fact. The relations between the two villages seemed to be well enough, but there was a clear enough divide. Those that dared to change this were halted in their tracks as they were turned on. Takai sat down at a table of a couple other shinobi and he looked around at them, he pulled his scarf off and tossed his jacket behind him. It was warm enough down here to not need them, it was truly a bizarre situation he found himself in. He looked around the shinobi once again and closed his eyes, stretching his arms he spoke out.

Hmm…that one seems to be…

Ike leaned against the wall next to the entrance. He was staring at the newly arrived shinobi, he seemed much more interesting than the uncivilised bunch that was surrounding him. When he spoke out his name, nobody even paid any attention. Ike wondered what the point of that was. Did that person seriously think anyone would give him notice just because he could say his name? However Ike looked at it, the guy just seemed to be self absorbed and hardly interested in anybody else. Ike smiled and walked over, sitting down casually on the chair next to him. He remained silent for about half a minute, giving the man a few glares. Finally Ike gave up, he couldn’t bare not talking for more than a minute.

“So I’m Ryuuchou Ike.”

Ike laid his hand across the table. No matter what the reaction to his statement was, Ike would try to find out more about his new ‘friend’. It would be advantageous, as perhaps they would be put into the same group when they got off the boat. Ike reached into his holster and brought out what seemed to be a deck of cards. He began shuffling them in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways. Finally, he set them down in front of himself and looked at Takai. He smiled once again.

“Want to play a game? I find it kills time quite well.”

And tells me a lot more about a person than any question…

The ship swayed a little as a large howling noise pierced the air around everyone. Ike hadn’t been outside yet, he preferred to stay indoors where it was warm, but the landscape outside seem to consist of ice, ice and more ice. Maybe with a little mist thrown in. Not to forget the freezing winds. Ike decided rather than trying to battle with nature outdoors, he would stay inside in the nice heated hold of the ship. And his decision paid off, as he met this interesting man. Hopefully he would accept his game of cards. If he didn’t, Ike would be annoyed…

Hayashi sat at a table with a few strangers around him, not minding their words very much as he was wrapped up in something that he considered to be much more engrossing than meaningless conversation. They were all talking about things that happened in their past that was comical or that produced some level of entertainment while laughing in unison.

Hayashi wasn't against being part of a jovial conversation while cracking jokes with friends, but the jokes they were making were disgusting and were all at the expense of some poor soul who was frequently dead at that present time. To laugh about past killings was despicable, however Hayashi had something else to keep him preoccupied. It was what had always kept him preoccupied whether he was just bored or simply had to take some time out of his day to make himself feel whole again. It was his guitar.

When another person joined the table and introduced himself, Hayashi hadn't acknowledged him with his eyes but instead responded with a verbal greeting while remaining in stride with his playing. He was playing a very bluesy guitar improvisation while frequently changing styles in order to add some interesting colour to what he was playing. He stretched out to some funkier verses when he felt that he needed to lighten it up a bit or went down to some smoother jazz when he felt the song needed to mellow out. To him, music was a living entity and it needed to change its personality depending on different situations.

"Yakedo Hayashi."

Then soon after another person came in and introduced himself as Ryuuchou Ike, however having already introduced himself once, he didn't feel it was necessary to do so once more. He simply went back to his playing. Ike seemed to be somewhat of an idiot in Hayashi's eyes with his moronic ideas for games, even though they were clearly no longer children. He felt that this Ike was someone who would prove to be irritating.

However Takai struck him as someone who was very powerful and the whole energy about him seemed as though he was very battle hardened. Hayashi was considered to be a quick learner, but by no means could he beat someone who had faced as many circumstances as this Takai. He didn't care to prove power, but the idea of combat swam through his mind when he looked over at him. It seemed as though battling and risque training were his fortes. He continued to play without speaking to the group.

"Yakedo-san...Allegro"

Takai had appreciated the music that Hayashi had been producing, but it was now far too disheartening. The atmosphere was a delicate one at the moment, both sides were on tenterhooks and those that trod across the invisible wall that was between Oto and Suna shinobi; these people were shunned by their own it seemed. Takai arched his back slightly and released a sigh as he tried to exorcise his stresses. He slouched in the chair he had taken and accepted his hand of cards. He shuffled the cards in his hand and looked towards Ike and acknowledged his existence as he jerked his head up. He turned back to his cards as he waited for Ike to tell him what the game they were intending to play. The cards flicked in his hand as he saw the shinobi waltz around in the huge hall that they were in. The mood had become darker and more sultry, but he had hoped that Hayashi would be able to alter this fact. He gazed around the hall and saw a few familiar faces, Taeko's red hair could be seen through the crowds and Takai couldn't help smile. She held her own well amongst the large group of boisterous shinobi. He saw Konsetsu milling around in the hall and some other Suna shinobi.

"Well Ryuuchou Ike...What's the game?"

Konsetsu hated the ocean today. The constant rocking back and forth made him fearful that the boat would turn over and he'd be swimming the rest of the way. He silently thanked kami sama in the clouds that he wasnt the type to get sea sick otherwise Konsetsu NEVER would have consented to the notion of taking this boat to their destination. And in that matter Konsetsu was also sort of in the dark. All he clearly remembered was getting the orders from the Kazekage that he had to report to the dock the ship was lodgged at immeiatley, Konsetsu had spent the large sum of money he had outside his bank account to sharpen and reinforce his two twin katana, he was indeed ready for his first world conflict.

"Just somebody please promise me they'll leave some enemy for me I don't want to get there and have nothing but a nice clean beach, my swords are to sharp to not be used.....named Konsetsu by the way" Sitting back down after his little side comment he was sure no one even heard Konsetsu finally found his calm in the ocean as the waves rocked the boat more gently despite the winds never loosing their vigor. He rather enjoyed the feeling of the salty sea air caressing his hair playing with each strand like a new toy on holiday.

Konsetsu was soon laying on his back hands folded across his chest as his eyes slowly closed to the world but his ears picked up everything the other sense missed. The crowd of skilled warriors conversing the idiot Ike blabbering on like a moron which made him smile and the calm ocean smashing into the boat from all direction. sure would suck if we all drown

Hasus was above on the main deck leaning against a railing looking into the clear water below them.

Sure is a hell of a day it might be at least halfway decent without so many killers gathered in one place though.

Hasius looked up and around at some of the faces, none of which he recognized, as the wind blew across his face.

Maybe it wont be to bad to hang around with my fellow sound shinobi after all it might be good to go meet a few in case they want to help me later...or in case they try to get in my way.

Hasius made his way down into the lower levels of the ship some people were playing cards, some talking, and some drinking then there were a few doing what seemed like a good idea to him.Hasius approached a wall with a few individuals just waiting around.

Im sure eventually ill be drafted into a conversation or two

Ike noticed a sound shinobi behind them, playing on the guitar. It was good music to say the least. He seemed to have a real talent for the guitar. The way it was being played right now, it seemed to tell a story to Ike…of course maybe that was just him thinking too much. He shuffled the blue deck one more time before placing it on the table again.

“Yakedo-san…was it? You have a true talent.”

Ike smiled at the guitarist. He turned back to face Takai. A few more people had joined the large hall but none had disturbed their game yet. That was the way Ike liked it though, no distractions and good music. He looked at his options of poker games.

“ Hmm…a good game of 5 card draw should be enough to waste some time. And since we are both shinobi, let’s stop any cheating right here and now.”

Ike thrust his arm up as a deck of red cards flew out. He caught the cards in his hand and began to shuffle vigorously. He didn’t need to explain the rules as it was obvious Takai had played few games before in his lifetime. Ike couldn’t help but keep smiling. Before he dealt the cards he looked around for a few friends. Sure enough, he saw Saki hanging around the crowd. All this noise and music would be ruining his ‘meditative state’…whatever that was. Ike placed the red deck on the floor and kept the blue deck on the table. It was a simple yet effective system.

“We’ll alternate between red and blue decks for the time being. That way, it’s easy to spot somebody cheating. Between each game we will switch decks, so at all times there is going to be one on the floor and one on the table. Simple yet clever no? Well anyways, now we’ll have a game of excitement. It seems the blue cards are flaring out in joy. Hahaha…”

Ike looked at his hand, consisting of 2 of diamonds, 2 of hearts, 4 of diamonds, 10 of spades and a King of hearts. Ike looked at his opponent. In each game Ike played, he always assumed the worst. His opponent probably had enough cards to at least make a three of a kind. Ike sighed and discarded the King of hearts and drew one card from the blue deck.

“Lady luck seems to have left me for this game…hahaha…your turn, Takai-san.”

Time to see what you’re like…Enzeru Takai…

When he heard Takai's comment regarding tempo, he smiled and nodded his head and decided to take the request and moved to a song that was a little faster and a little livelier. The song turned into a normally paced tarantella which in itself was already a rather fast tempo. The song itself would generate the desire to dance and was in general a sort of festive song, at least his rendition of a tarantella was.

He heard Ike's compliments and once more smiled in response. He was much too into the song to bother with any sort of verbal acknowledgment. The song was beginning to wrap him in deeper in its clutches as he felt as though he was completely consumed by the guitar. He once more couldn't put it down, the whole experience was engrossing for him. From the feeling of the strings on his fingers to the subtle vibrations of the strings. All of his senses seemed to be swimming in this particular environment.

Which was precisely why Hayashi was beginning to worry about the events that were to take place in the near future. He knew there would be battle and he began to play different potential scenarios in the future, while combining it with different past experiences. The ideas floating around through his head were not only ruining his concentration, but his mood as well. He could no longer feel the incredible sensations he felt while he was playing earlier on.

He put the guitar back in its scroll and took a drink. They were off on a mission that required them to risk their lives, so nobody really cared who drank or not. The merlot went down nicely as he watched the card game begin. He had nothing better to do, so he might as well observe.

I'm steaming
Sakyuu stared out into the swirling mists of the ocean around him, it was nearly peaceful apart from the lurching of the ship and the person throwing up to the right of him. He gripped the side of the rail and looked down in to the icy waters below. A small chunk of ice passed by the ship and its many sides glittered like a diamond with a lot to prove. He watched it till it was sucked under the ship and the turned around. It was cold, it was very cold but downstairs it was crowded. He breathed a sigh and then started to slowly, with extra care to avoid the really icy parts of the deck, head towards the doors leading below deck. Up above the sails flapped weakly in the breeze, they had been doing so for the last ten minutes without even catching a breath of wind. "Maybe a last drink is in order."

Sakyuu opened the door and shut it hastily again behind him as the mist curled through the door. It was thickening and seemed to be reaching out like an opened hand to catch the ship. He walked down the steps and took a left into the bar area and headed straight for the bar itself. He made eye contact with a barman who was slowly and surely spreading the dirt evenly around a glass.

No one seems to mind about the younger people drinking since it might be their last. Might as well have something to heat up my throat.

"A whisky please." The barman nodded and filled up a glass, he then handed over to Sakyuu who took hold of it and treid not to spill it as the boat rocked. He turned around and looked at the rest of the lower deck area. It was filled with people but there seemed to be a very evident line down the middle which seemed to stop and encompase the bar as a sort of neutral zone. Sakyuu headed into the Suna side of the bar and looked for a seat. He found one after a bit of searching in a corner. The table was occupied by another who was sleeping noisily but with an influx of people from the deck above it was evident that the other seats would be taken shortly. Sakyuu took in his surronding, there was a man playing a guitar not far away, he changed tempos from a slow gentle beat to a faster more exciting one. Above them smoke seemed to hover in the air, probably to avoid touching the dirty walls. Sakyuu took a drink from his whisky and had to stop himself coughing it back up. He stared at the dark brown drink. "Do people really like this?"

Zen rarely ever left land. Zen began to become sea sick, as the ship rocked back and fourth. Instead of socializing Zen was not well so he sat at an empty table. Zen lowered his head to meditate.

Why did we need to take a ship? Where are we even going anyway, there is too much mystery shrouded by the mission.

Zen heard the laughter of the table next to his. Zen would have tried to communicate with others if he hadn't been ill. Zen took his spear of his back and placed it on the table and put his arms and head over it. Zen didn't want to talk more or less move.

These people sure are layed back, I wonder if they are worried at all.

The lower deck was quite full due to the cold weather outside. Zen had opened his canteen which he had brought with him. Zen took a few sips and began to feel tired. He decided to take a nap.

Why are these people so cheerful they all might die.
