Okay I've been rolling this through my mind long enough and I think I've come to a quick conclusion on some of them. Lets call this the "but were they really ready thread" where we will be discussing a few people who have been given an upgrade in the Naruto show and wether or not they were truly ready for it....so for example SHIKAMARU-Chunnin status too soon? : I believe that since the chunnin exam was botched with the sound/sand attack that a clear determinable promotion was not able to be done yet one of Tsunade's first orders was to promote Shikamaru and send him in search of sasuke. Now I'm not second guessing the retrival but was it right to promote Shikamaru when we obviously know now that the only reason why he didnt try was because of an inside fear of failure. I mean in the beginning of the arc he is cornered with what appears to be maybe 7 to 10 sound nin and he literally freaks. Only after Ausma bails him out does he continue on. Behavior befitting a Chunnin? definetly not on this site but then again that asks another question in itself. Maybe we are abusing the powers of a Chunnin...maybe we CAN'T FIGHT off 200 people like we all say and do in events GARRA-Kazekage status too quikly given? : Im referring of course to the fight between him and Deidarra. I mean I'll be the first to say that Garra is a perfectly able shinobi and maybe someday he would have made an excellent Kazekage but I just think that he was given the boost too soon and with not enough training. Like if we gave a severley underdeveloped individual the seat to the presidency *and be civil Bush jokes aside he at least knows how to be a president so dont even start* Well okay there are my two lets see what you guys think |

well regarding shikamaru, I have been making the same point for ages, I don't think a chuunin would be capable of fending off 30 other ninjas at one time, especially since those other sound ninja were definetly stronger than genin, so let's assume their chuunin. Theres no way he'd win that fight, it's a give away, maybe with 2 or even 3 chuunins thats a fair fight but 1 person fresh out of the exam, that doesn't even have the rank yet won't stand a chance there. I don't hold this battle against shikamaru, what I will say is that he has a staggering amount of failures on his part, last time I checked ninjas were weapons to kill, not people who work well if their giving out orders but can't fight for shit. regard Gaara, I kind of feel the same. They do say that he sort of earned it, but then they gave him a push in order to keep a better eye on him. He definetly did good in that fight, severing off Deidara's arm, I think he'd have won at that rate, it was that trick Deidara pulled that threw him under. Meaning in circumstances like that he couldn't win, if the battle occured elsewhere the circumstances would shift a lot.....then again you can say that about ANY fight in ANY anime, or even real life. They openly explain why they made him kazekage though, which sort of explains that, I'd say he was an extremely strong jounin, but not kage level. Or perhaps our idea of kage is a bit off, being as how we only have jiraiya, tsunade, orochimaru and the sandaime to compare to really.......and i guess yondaime...... |

Shikamaru is a good strategist, but he can't fight for shit really. He is a genius yes, but then again Neji is a genius and everyone knows how good Neji is. So for him to get by on the being a genius thing for so long is kind of weak. In a planned attack like that against Hidan for the second time yeah he is very useful, but he has been proven to fail when he is surprised or ambushed. Shikamaru hasn't really changed much over the Time skip from what he was in the Chuunin Exams and that is a little disappointing. I think he was deserving of the Chuunin rank, but at his current stage I see it hard for him to progress beyond Chuunin. Gaara is a hard one as well, he is effectively Naruto but weaker. We don't know the extent of Suna's forces, but Kankuro and Temari are Jounin now aren't they? They are strong yeah, but I think Gaara when he was a Genin was more than capable of wiping the floor with those two even now. He is strong yes and that isn't exactly down to him, but he has taken advantage of the hand he has been dealt. Granted he isn't the strongest Kage that has ever been around and in terms of the Sannin he is probably weak. However I would say Pain is probably stronger than the Sannin as well. In an upfront battle I think Pain could defeat the Sannin. Gaara was worthy of becoming the Kazekage, but that's just because of the weakness of Suna at the moment. |

I enjoy this thread it seems to be sitrring up good discussion so heres my opinion Shikamaru- i think how we grade chuunins and how THEY grade chuunins are completly different, they want a shinobi whos trained who is tactical and whatnot, my thoughts are misplaced at the moment forgive me if i dont back this up well, i remember the 2 jounin admiring shikamaru's tactics and knowledge and in there mind he's genius enough to become chuunin, but i also think it was to early, neji was a genius but fought the main character and ergo couldn't win, but neji makes it to jounin in 3 years and goes on to become the prodigy of his clan and what not, i guess were looking for genius to include combat able when they only want brains Gaara- i agree with raive on this one, he's probably a strong jounin like kakashi, i mean kakashi takes off deidars arm and has mangekyou sharingon and all that nice stuff but is still jounin regardless, he although is powerfull hasn't improved much, i think gaara is more like a kazekage bodyguard kinda shinobi who has te skills to fight with S rank akatsuki but isn't kazekage ready |

Well, I think I should get my two cents in on this >.> Regarding Shikamaru, I think it's been proven time and again that your rank doesn't necisarily determine your strength. They're more of a military rank than anything. So acadamey students are privates, Genin would be more on the lines of a corporal, Chuunin Seargents etc. With the exception of Kage, just because you're a higher rank doesn't nesicarily mean you're stonger. Consider the Sound 4, most of them were at least Chuunin, and I'd say Kimimaro(sorry, don't know how it's spelt) was a Jounin, and yet they were all defeated a bunch of Genin and a Chuunin. I might be wrong on this end, but that's what it seems like to me. As for Gaara, if you're saying he's on par with Kakashi, then yes, he is ready to be Kazekage, because it has even been said in the manga by Tsunade and Jiraiya that is Tsunade was were killed/retired/ etc., then the top candidate for the 6th hokage is Kakashi. so if Gaara is as strong as Kakashi, and Kakashi is strong enough to be considered for Hokage, then Gaara should be considered for Kazekage. Also let's not foget that no one in Suna can defeat Gaara, thus he's the strongest in the village. and yeah... that's my two cents... not that their worth anything >.> |
