Power is sought by all. Even those in power want more. For villages and ninjas alike, knowing powerful jutsus is only half of the job. What drives a village? What drives governments? Money. In the face of declining economic power, two villages are faced with a dire situation. The Hidden Village of Sand and Cloud both are in a state of decline and desperately need aid in order to survive. Not one to pass up an opportunity, Hidden Sound finds this an attractive situation. Orochimaru begins concocting yet another plan as he keeps in mind the risks and benefits of is interference. There, in his chambers he waits for his servant to bring him what he asked for. His serpent like grin always present even as his patience runs thin. Finally, Kabuto enters with several books. Orochimaru receives them and looks them over. After a few moments he closes the books and places them aside. Kabuto looks over to his master, holding two envelopes directed to either hidden sand or hidden cloud, and awaits his answer. Slowly, Orochimaru's plot is revealed with only one word. "Sunagakure." The snake's offer is sent to Hidden Sand, but it does not stay there. Spies of Konoha and Cloud alike catch wind of this message from Orochimaru. The offer: Economic aid from the thriving Sound village in exchange for a favor. The Kazekage reads the message and sighs. A person of position must look after his constituents. Gaara walks out onto a balcony and looks over his village. His mind conflicting over the two sides; to help his people and orochimaru, or to deny the villain altogether? With a heavy heart, Garaa turns and announces his decision. "Ready the troops." Word spreads quickly to the other villages. While some turn a blind eye and deaf ear, Hidden Cloud knows of one that can be counted on for aid. Pointing out the precedent of the Hidden Grass Village, they request aid to face this threat. The letter is sent quickly enough and Mishima Jin is the first to receive it. His fiery temper ignites as he finishes the letter. Storming his way up to the Hokage's office, he slams the letter down onto the desk. "'Don't let us be another Grass Village.' What the hell?! We can't just stand idly by!" Tsunade reads over the letter. Her serious face doesn't even flinch when reading the dire news. She looks over to Jin and then her desk with an imposing countenance. Jin respectfully backs off and waits for the answer. "We can aid them economically, but we need our troops to guard our own borders." "We can't just let that snake bastard-" "We will, however, send some ninjas to help the Hidden Cloud. They are not so weak as to need our entire force." "..." "We will send a small army. I'm sure you'll do fine." Jin bows and exits the room. He then sends his own reply and vow to aid Hidden Cloud. On that side, the news is received and preparations are made. Kisuke is placed in charge of the preparations. He is quite serious in his work as memories of his last war flooded his mind. His hands tighten into a fist. "They won't get away with this. We'll tear them a new one right Hirosuke?" The dog beside him barks enthusiastically. And so another conflict is brewing. What began with money problems now heads straight into war. With a portion of sand and leaf troops and the full forces of sound and cloud making their preparations, who is to say that anyone will come out better for it? The leaders of each village's efforts, Kin, Jin, and Kisuke, all look to the setting sun. Some might say that it signals the end of something, others the coming of darkness, but only time will tell who will define this moment when the morning comes. The Battle of Matsuro. That’s what this war would be called for many decades. It was unrelenting as well as unreal. The devastation was even greater than any conflict that Orochimaru had ever started. Without a doubt that would please him, but the end result would overwhelm that pleasure and leave a bitter taste in his mouth. There was much to reflect upon, many things that went one way but should have gone another. Nevertheless the war had come and gone. Only memories of the dead linger where the armies clashed. Memories of an unforgiving war… Cloud and Leaf had both made their preparations. They each separated and made their decisive stands at their respective locations and sent any extra troops to each other, the result being they had a mix of alliance ninjas but the same number as before. There were two invasions, one by sea and the other by land. Each battle had their conflicts, some riskier than others. With Kin leading the invasion by land, they had no trouble in arriving in enemy territory. It was only until their forces ran into the swamp lands of Cloud that they met with resistance. Familiar foes looked upon each other with scorn and swore victory, but that could only be true for one. This scene was dark and murky until Kin’s orders were given. The whole area lit with barrages of arrows with exploding tags. It wasn’t a pretty sight to say the least. Like the gunshot at a race, the battle began with a bang. Immediately accommodating for each other’s ploys, Kisuke’s first order was to counter the arrows. Following that, each force allotted some nins for an attack on the enemy’s flank. Appointed to lead these small groups was Kaito and Demonicus. Kaito, with Denma, Musou and assorted nins, squared off with Demonicus, Shinji and their assortment. Among those that fought there will always be those that enjoy it. Ginji eagerly made his way through and battled with Nevets just as Shinji and Hissori did. Even though Kin had sent Demonicus, he still went on to aid him. He would undoubtedly enjoy this choice of action, seeing as how he found his foes for this battle. Boldly flaunting his status, Kin challenged both Denma and Kaito. Demonicus, with kin’s orders, went to hunt down Kisuke and find him he did. Unbalanced battles raged on till the end. Not to be mistaken for a fool, Kisuke, finally taking note of the damage the arrows and the enemy had caused, knew well enough to pull back and regroup… Kontan led the forces that would invade by sea, but immediately ran into trouble. A terribly storm wrecked many ships before they even landed. Despite this minor setback, he and the rest of the sound and sand alliance arrived and immediately prepared for a foe that would not wait for them. A sizeable threat via defensive position, kontan had to square off against Jin. Jin’s wishes to make it a defensive battle were dashed as several squadrons jumped the gun and charged at the unprepared enemy. Hero, Saiyuki, and Jing were of the most notable forerunners. Making raids on the enemy ships delayed much of their foe’s progress. Hebi joined in on his allies’ attacks as well, but all efforts would be overshadowed by the chaos that Ed unleashed. His lavish tact was not of a planned assault, but all out war. Even Jin reminisced upon seeing the spikes this nin unleashed on the enemy. For some time it was a struggling fight for the sound, with many loses on their part. Takai and Zabuza made their respective entrances and evened the numbers out. Full force now faced off against full force. Among notable battles were those between Kinachi and Hebi, Seisho and Takai, and most notably the onslaught of nins against the Demon of the Mist. With an uncaring eye, Lontan watched and took measure. He found that Orochimaru had sent along with them new machinations of war: The Ryoushi. These large creatures would definitely give the sound an advantage. Kontan would instigate a fight with Jin and the two would battle. Much like the battle of the pawns about them, this went on discretely. Fights raged on, partners switched places, and lives were taken. All of this went on without an end, until the setbacks by the Leaf and Cloud ninjas were finally accounted for. Trained messenger birds were released with their cargo of oil all dumped on the defensive position behind the frontlines. This was soon set off and lit the field on fire. Jin knew the situation well and made a tactical retreat… And so the march begins. Kin’s forces went on calmly as Kontan’s made total war. Their aim: The base of Mt. Matsuro! The two forces had not joined at the base, instead they faced off against their foes on opposite ends of the mountain. Kin’s placement pitted him against Shin’s forces while Kontan’s faced Kisuke’s. The lives lost before were minuscule compared to the ones lost on that fateful mountain. Life and death intertwined at the base, but they clashed at the summit. Heroes and villains alike fought with honor, with emotion, and with fervor as they climbed their way up towards their fate. An unending fight from bottom to top, it tired out even the most astute fighters. In the end it was a fight between Kin and Jin. The first to flinch would cause the downfall of an entire nation…or perhaps it’s salvation! “Retreat!” The words echoed out, and the first to realize the impact was none other than Kin. His eyes widened as the will to fight was lost by most of the Sand nins. Without their aid, this fight wasn’t even futile, it was hopeless to the worst degree! His rage tore up the area as he too ordered the retreat. Time told a story of a great battle with a decisive winner. To the victor goes the spoils, and so the home team kept their lives and their land. Despite having a trail of scorched earth and a decimated mountain, the Hidden Village of Cloud held off Orochimaru’s conquest. The day is done and so is this conflict. Once again the winners are the ones that write history and the losers are the dead. |
