Here follows a list of the awards given to roman legionaries for various reasons, as well as a historical explanation of them. Then I will describe how they are implemented in Vae Victis. They are listed in reverse order, with the lowest awards at the top and the highest further down.![]() The Torques (Torc/necklace) was awarded to distinguished legionaries. ![]() The Armilla (golden bracelet) was awarded to courageous legionaries. ![]() The Phalera (disk) was attached to the breastplates of victorious legionaries. This particular Phalera fields an image of Mars, the god of war. ![]() The Vexillum (banner) was awarded for outstanding service within the legion. ![]() The Corona Vallaris (Battlements crown) was awarded to the first person to climb the walls of an enemy fortification. ![]() The Corona Aurea (Golden Crown) was awarded for defeating an enemy in single combat and holding the ground until the end of the battle. ![]() The Corona Civica (Civic Crown) was awarded for service beyond the call of duty, saving the life of a citizen of Rome. ![]() The Corona Graminea (Grass Crown) was the highest award a roman officer could receive, and was awarded only to generals who successfully broke an encirclement of their legion, thereby saving their entire army from obliteration. It was fashioned out of the blood-stained grass of the ground where the battle was fought. Vae Victis awards: Torques: Lowest death-count in a war. Armilla: Highest kill-count in a war. Phalera: Participated in a won war. Vexillum: Outstanding commitment. Corona Vallaris: First kill in a war. Corona Aurea: Positive kill/death-ratio in a war. Corona Civica: Being a genuine asset to the clan, and setting a fine example. Corona Graminea: Singlehandedly winning a war (other participants = negative score, thereby saving us from a loss) We will also distribute honorific titles among those who have distinguished themselves beyond what our award system can reward. These honorific titles are based on titles commonly given to Roman generals who in one way or another had done something extraordinary in service of the Roman Empire. (Magnus, Optimus and the like...) They will be displayed for public view in a custom member title for the person who has earned it. The offices of Pontifex Maximus, Princeps Senatus and Praetor hold honorific titles by default, by virtue of their services to Vae Victis. |
