I started to remove the alternator from my 1.9 Felicia today. The Haynes manual rates it as an easy job. The access was a but restricted but I got the connections off and removed the bolts. but I cant get it out because there just isnt room. To take it out from the top I will have to remove the radiator and the cooling fan. To get it out the bottom I will have to remove the power steering pump and possibly the water pump. Has any body come across this problem and have any suggestions? |

Thanks Ill give that a try. The problem with the alternator is the pulley has detached from the shaft and the fan belt came off. Is this a common fault and can it be repaired without changing the whole alternator? |

ahh yes a commonish problem but if its actually come off then it will have knackered the thread on the alt too, most of the vw range of alt's will fit as long as they have 4 lugs ie octavia/golf etc but if its newer than 2000 you will need the small plug for the batt light too as they changed slightly |

You were not kidding about the job being a rite bar stewart. I had to remove the rad fan , the power steering reservoir and the radiator to get the thing out When I was doing it I noticed that the front valance was slightly crumpled. The previous owner must have hit it on a kerb or something. This was making the space in front of the engine even tighter. I jacked the panel back out to its original shape and hopefully it will be easier to refit the alternator when it comes back. |
