She, Who Must Be Obeyed.

(Note: This thread isn't for the non-thinkers and non-readers! Nyahaha *kidding*) Books and Words ---------------------- In those little sheets of paper -- they speak to us, comfort us, feed us, arouse us, hurt us, teach us, terrify us, open our hearts and our minds. It enables us to see with the keenest of eyes, hear with the finest ears and touch with the sharpest nerve endings. Truly, books are the best of things. They are for nothing but to inspire us. Do you agree with that? Now, my little darlings, my question is; aside from the references and religious books like the Bible and the Qu’ran; What book/novel that most increased your understanding and perspective of the world and/or have changed a part of your life in many intangible ways? -- Since, I'm the author of this thread, it is proper for me to be the first one to answer my own question. One of my beloved books is J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher In The Rye. It presented a story about a boy who is more than just a troubled teenager. He is skeptical about the world. The poor boy is left with a cluster of memories, some good but most bad. Yet because of these memories, he has developed the unique ability to speak bluntly about the people he meets and at the end, he attained a significant enrichment. One of which contributed to his fantasy of being a catcher in the rye or someone who catches innocent children (like himself) who accidently fall off the cliff and trying to bridge the gap between childhood and adulthood. I've also learned various insights from the following:

Thanks po. Are you sure we're talking about the same book po? The Prince by Nicollo Machiavelli is one of the books that changed the course of history. Lawmakers and political mentors from around the globe -- alam nila lahat yang libro na yan. It presents the anatomy of power politcs. The author's sinister reputation rests almost entirely upon a single book, The Prince. No book can be dissociated from the period in which it was created, a fact that has never been more aptly illustrated than by The Prince. And yet, like every great book, it contains lessons for all times. "Besides what has been said, people are fickle by nature; and it is a simple to convince them of something but difficult to hold them in that conviction; and, therefore, affairs should be managed in such a way that when they no longer believe, they can be made to believe by force." -- Akasuna_Sasori I used to have that one in my e-book library, kaya lang, I never really liked that book...but who knows, I might read that book in the future. Mahilig ka siguro mag Counter Stike, 'no? Paolo Coehlo fan? -- Beldaran_of_Riva Yeah. In graphic novels, Sandman Comic Series by Neil Gaiman is on my list. SA D.E. books naman, ang favorite part ko sa The Belgariad ay yung, Pawn of Prophecy (Book 1). -- staple Err. What love story book po, kuya? hehe -- Mekhet Hehe fellow Neil Gaiman fan, huh? I'm reading the American Gods now. Ever heard of Anansi Boys? That was my first Neil Gaiman story... :) -- Thanks, guys! ;) |
