i. What is a Homunculus
Welcome to my second guide w/c it brings out the theorotical results of my research of the homunculus. I decided to write this guide for further clarification of this remarkable skill w/c made some players to ignore the full potentials of this class. Most of the things in were the results of my research, beta sakray & kRO testing data, forum opinions, and I don't know everything there is to know, so input and corrections are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions concerning the basics of this skill, read through this guide and search the threads to see if your question hasn't already been answered, then feel free to ask if you can't find anything.

In every aspect of creation, bringing life from a combination of some non-living matter was the real role of every Alchemist/ Creator in Midgard. This is a skill that is entirely different from others because it allows the player to modify AI scripts to further enhance his abilities in terms of leveling, sieging and pvping.

Homunculus were supposedly available in the earlier patches and should be included in the skill tabs of the Alchemists/ Creators (w/c was made a quest skill later) Because the Gravity staff have encountered huge amount of bugs and errors during the beta testing.

After some huge debugging and repairs, Gravity released the Homunculi skill that was attached in the Lighthalzen patch. After the LH patch was released in some servers around the globe, most of the summoners are encountering key mishaps in terms of leveling and maintaining the homunculus.

And I forgot, this skill is still buggy and not yet complete. So expect some nerfs in this skill.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ii. who and where cud get it

As there is some confusion, the Homunculus is available to both Alchemists and Creators.

The Homunculus, reduced to the most basic description, is a pet that assists you. Be it by supporting you, or attacking with you. You create them via Prepare Potion, using one of each of the following items: Dew of Yggdrasil, Seed of Life, and Glass Tube w/c results an Embryo.

The Embryo then remains in your inventory until you use the skill Call Homunculus. You then receive a Homunculus. The type is selected at random. There are currently four types of Homunculi, each type offering two different Homunculi. The difference between the two is purely cosmetic. They all have initial forms, and a developed version. In order to mature them into their secondary forms, you need to first raise their intimacy to "Best Friend" status, and then use a Philosopher’s Stone or the Stone of Sage.

Just like other quests, this requires more patience and dedication. Here follows a series of steps in order to obtain the Homunculi. Some steps maybe changed by Gravity or the LUG without any further notice.

Alchemist Quest Skill - Bio Ethics

1. Getting started, head off to the newly released city of Lighthalzen by using the Airship in Juno. Bring a Grandpa's Beard and Geek Glasses. You will use this later on. It can be bought in the second flood of Lighthalzen General Store located roughly 4 o' clock of the city, at the Toy Merchant. (Clown NPC)

2. Equip the Grandpa's Beard and Geek Glasses and head over to the Lighthalzen Main Office in 11 o' clock direction of the city. after you've entered the huge building go to left until you see a Rekenber Guard guarding a portal, he'll ask you for an ID (a.k.a the Grandpa's Beard and the Geeky Glasses)

3. If you've equip the two headgears there should be no problem, just talk to him and you can procceed to the Bio Lab.

4. In the Bio Lab there are 4 Portals, approach the Right Portal, inside you will see many NPCs they appear to be reasearching about something. Approach Kellasus He's in the right side of the room, talk to him again and again until he mention something about the Homunculus and an option will be given, tell him to teach you something about Homunculus. However he will refuse to teach you.

5. Talk to Skrajjad instead, located just below the      y Kellasus, he will teach you about Vaporize but you need more than that, talk to Keshibien next, he is standing just left to Kellasus.

6. Talk to Keshibein, and he will ask you to find Broncher in Lighthalzen, he is inside the Lighthalzen Hotel (lighthalzen 158,129) enter the right room of the restaurant, there you will see him. Talk to Broncher and he'll teach you about resurrecting a Homunculus.

7. Return to Kellasus in the Bio Lab at the 11 o' clock part of the city, tell him that you have learned the details about Homunculus, he'll ask you 3 Questions to test your knowledge and the answers are:

1. Vaporize
2. Embryo
3. Homunculus Resurrection

Despite your hard work of reading this guide, he'll not teach you the skill again, this guy is plain evil!

8. Find the house of his Family (lighthalzen 249,299) and his son, Koring and speak to his wife. The house is just at the back of the Police Station.

9. Return to Kellasus again and tell him your name, continue to talk to him until he says yes, because of your determination and he's probobly annoyed with you, he will teach you the Bioethics!

After acquiring the quest skill, you’re free to some of you’re free to put some of your skill points here.

iii.basic homunculi information
PLEASE DO NOT SKIP THIS PORTION.

1. How do I get the Homunculus?
Follow the link for Bioethics Quest Walkthrough (above). To create an embryo, make sure you have a Potion Manual and at least 1 ea of the following: Life Force Pot
Yggdrasil Dew, Seed of Life, Medicine Bowl, Normal Potion Creation Book. Use Potion Prepare skill and if you succeed, you get an embryo with your name
.
NOTE: For lvl 99 Alchemists who want to rebirth, you can get the skill just by talking to the Biochemist Rebirth NPC twice. (but at least 1 person has reported this to be bugged, possibly by a previous skill reset)

2. What determines Homunculi stats?
Nothing affects their stats as far as is known at this point in time. Each type has it's own fixed starting stats, and different growth rates.

3. I want a Filir!!! Why did I get an Amistr instead??
It's random. Just delete your current one and keep doing it until you get the desired homun. (oh, and you might fail each time you try to call a homunculus from a new embryo) And no, the second versions of Homunculi aren’t out yet, even though their sprites are in the .grf files.

4. How can I get the grown-up and/or evolved form of my Homunculi?
You can avail these through a catalyst that we call the Philosopher’s Stone. However, they are currently only on kRO. I strongly suggest that if ever you have to keep these stones in your Kafra for a while. They might make it to iRO when we get 10.3.

5. What is the difference between Homunculus Resurrection lvl 1 to 5?
Higher lvl recovers more hp after Res and uses less sp. Cast time is same for all lvls, reduced by dex. (Several people have reported some bugs with this)
Quote:

Level - HP Recovered - SP Used
1 - 10% - 74
2 - ??% - 68
3 - ??% - 62
4 - ??% - 56
5 - 90% - 50

6. What are Homunculi properties? (race, size, attk property)
Race unknown, size unknown, Attack is neutral but can hit ghost properties.

7. Why won't my Amistr/Lif attack?
By default, Amistr/Lif are PASSIVE whereas Filir/Vanil are AGGRESSIVE. To change this, you can use a different (custom) AI script. Custom AI scripts can also solve the ks-ing problem that default AI script has (nice job grav).

8. AI script?
Homunculus behavior is controlled by an AI script. You can use the default script or a custom-made script.

9. Where can I find out more about AI scripts?
See Links section below. Be sure to V&R (Vaporize and Recall or the Peaceful Rest) your Homunculi or relog or change portal (or something !!) in order to refresh your AI script.

10. How does a Homunculus lvl up?
If homunculus kills a monster by itself, it will get the full XP. Your alchy/biochem will also get the same amount of Base XP. All JobXP is lost. If you want to get JobXP as well, help to onster and you will get the appropriate amount based on how much dmg you deal out.
Quote:

Formula for homun base_xp:
Amount Earned = Monster Base_XP * (Damage from Homunc)/(Total Damage from Homunc + Player)

11. How do I get skills for my homunculus?
At Base lvl 3 your homunculus will get its first skill point. Every 3 Base lvls thereafter, your homunculus gets 1 skill point. They do not have Job lvls. Currently each homun type has 3 skills, which are maxed at lvl 5 each. Meaning, your homunculus should max all it's skills at lvl 45. Excess points cannot be used for anything at this time.

12. What should I feed my Homunculus?
Amistr: Zargon.
Filir: Garlet.
Lif: Pet Food.
Vanilmirth: Scell.

13. When should I feed my homun?
Feed it when its hunger is between 11~25 to get 1 full point of intimacy.
Feeding at other times will either give u less than a full point, or possibly reduce your chances of getting a full point (TO BE CONFIRMED).
Quote:

1~10% Hunger - 50% Intimacy
11~25% Hunger - 100% Intimacy
26%~75% Hunger - 75% Intimacy
76%~90% Hunger - (minus) 5% Intimacy
91%~100% Hunger - (minus) 50% Intimacy

14. What happens if I forget to feed it?
Its intimacy will go lower and it will leave you when the intimacy rate drops to zero, just like a pet.

15. What is Intimacy? How do I improve my homunculus' Intimacy?
Your Homunculi starts somewhere around 21 Intimacy (as seen through the homunculus hidden stats viewer). When a homunc's intimacy is at the max, you will be able to change it into the grown-up form. When the 10.3 patch arrives that is. Increase your homunc Intimacy rating by feeding it (see feeding above).
Quote:

INTIMACY RATES
0-3=      with a ... (the rest I can't see becuase it's behind the feed button)
4-10 =
11-100 = Awkward
101-250 = Shy
251-750 = Neutral
751-910 = Cordial
911-1000 = Loyal
1001+ = Unknown (I guess it maxes at 1000, or would actually say "Unknown" if you feed it beyond 1000?)

16. Can I have more than 1 Homunculus?
No. You have to delete the first one (PERMANENTLY) before you can summon another.

17. Does dying/vaporizing affect Homunculus intimacy?
No, it has no effect.

18. How do I tell my homun to do specific things?
Homunculus commands:
Quote:

Alt + Single Right Click: Target monster
Alt + Double Right Click: Attack monster
Alt + T: Standby, idle/passive mode, cancels all commands and returns to master
Alt + Right Click Ground: Move to location (15 tile range)
Alt + R: Information window (yes kinda like pets screen)
(Again, using a custom script will really save you a lot of hassle telling the homunc to attack such and such a monster, avoid another type of monster, etc)

19. Can I heal/buff my homunculus?
They can't be buffed, and can't be healed except via Alchie skill Aid Potion/Potion Pitcher. However, an alchy in your party can aid pot your homunc. Aid Condensed Potions doesn't work on them. =(
Some monster status effects work on them them though (e.g. curse)
LexAeterna does nothing for your homunculus' skill attacks in pvm, but work for normal melee attacks. They themselves can be lexed in pvp.

20. How does the Lif skill Heal work?
It works like Acolyte Heal skill, except that each use consumes a condensed red potion. And no, it CANNOT healbomb undead. The Benediction of Chaos skill by the Vanilmirth MIGHT NOT also work in the undead.

21. Can I trade/vend/store my Embryos?
They can b d/vended/put into storage. Once you use it to summon a homunc, it's gone. If you Vaporize/Peaceful Rest your Homunculus after that, you will not get the Embryo back, but you can always summon it thereafter. And interestingly, contrary to early conjecture, embryos bear the names of their makers.

22. Why does my homunculus seem to attack faster than me, even though its ASPD is less than mine??
Homun ASPD formula works in a different way than player ASPD. It is also affected (to a minor extent) by your AI script (how fast it executes) and your pc specs ( I don't think anyone shold worry abt this factor though). But the major factors are still its AGI and DEX.

23. I heard that Homunculus could flee better than players?
Yes, in a way. Homunculus’ flee does not seem to be affected by the size of a mob, unlike a player's. Of course if it has 40 flee don't expect it to flee ANY kind of mob.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
iv. bugs, errors and exploits
AGAIN, PLEASE DO NOT SKIP THIS PORTION

1.They can get stuck attacking things on other sides of walls. Can be reduced with a custom AI script (?).

2. They can get left behind if you run too far, they will sit there until vaporized or killed (they will not attack back). Get a custom AI script to solve this.

3. Will in PvP if using certain custom AI scripts (they attack themselves)

4. CAN be targeted in PvP by both targeted and AoE spells

5. If Vaporized while status effected (freeze, curse, etc), homunculus will bug up. Same thing happens if it was status effected when it dies. Vaporize and recall to fix.

6. Philosopher's stone or rather Stone of Sage (to evolve your homun) is currently in but does not work. Save it for 10.3

7. Monsters WILL target homunculi over normal players. No quick solution. Either vaporize and recall so that you become the new target, or use corners/terrain to your advantage. Or onster a.s.a.p.

8. Castling skill for Amistir is bugged, monsters do not switch, you do switch locations though.

9.Vani's skill Instruction Change is currently bugged. If you tele/warp/relog or otherwise cause your homunc to respawned, the STR bonus from IC is temporarily lost until next lvl-up. INT appears to be bugged, but in fact if you start a monster, the correct bonus will be reflected. Since it is a passive boost, the only way to refresh it is to lvlup or increase Instruction Change skill lvl (if you still can). Note: There is no advantage to not getting this skill maxed as soon as you can, since you still get the INT bonus. Has been reported to GMs for further action.
Suggestion: Stop lvling just before your Vani hits a lvl-up. The next time you come on, go get the lvl and your homunc can enjoy the full benefits of Instruction Change (at least until the next respawn).

10. Homunculus can benefit from the old Agi Up bug. Just get an Agi Up, use a Speed Up, equip a y Axe or whatever increases your moving speed. Then Vaporize+Recall or Tele/relog/warp somewhere. Your Homunculus will then benefit from Increased movement speed until you cancel it with V+R/Tele/relog/warp etc. Hooray a useful bug for once.

11. Another semi-useful "bug". If you relog/tele/warp/V+R, your Homunculus’ Hunger countdown clock will reset. Useful if you are out in a dungeon somewhere and running low on feed. Watch out however, Homunculus with skills that last for some time wil also get their skills cancelled e.g. Filir's Flitting. A double-edged sword...

Author’s NOTE: More info coming soon as I find out more stuff from personal testing or from others. Feel free to add what you think is useful to know. And if your question is not answered here, ask and it shall be answered (not necessarily by me, but it shall be answered). If I got something wrong, please let me know so I can amend it. /thx

v.basic pet skills; its major abilities and capabilities in some situations

Homunculus level up by a monster by itself, it will get the full XP. Your alchie/creator will also get the same amount of Base XP. All JobXP is lost. If you want to get JobXP as well, help to onster and you will get the appropriate amount based on how much dmg you deal out.

Amistr.
-As you can see on its skills, most of it was on defensive measures. Very useful on sieges and PVPing.

Castling, active.
Instantaneously switch the location of the player and Amistr. The monsters that were attacking the player will now attack Amistr instead.
Author’s note: It works!!! You can use it anytime you need it!

1: 20% chance of success.
2: 40% chance of success.
3: 60% chance of success.
4: 80% chance of success.
5: 100% chance of success.

Defense, active.
Temporarily increase the defense of both Amistr and the player.
Author’s note: Additional defense rules! But not on def-ignoring skills just like Acid stration. Some weapons may take advantage on this skill like the ice-pick. Use it at your own risk.

1: 2 defense, 40 second duration.
2: 4 defense, 35 second duration.
3: 6 defense, 30 second duration.
4: 8 defense, 25 second duration.
5: 10 defense, 20 second duration.

Adamantium Skin, passive.
Increase Amistr's defense, maximum hp, and hp regeneration.
Author’s note: Make your Amistr survive bigtime on this skill

1: 2% hp, 5% regen, 4 defense.
2: 4% hp, 10% regen, 8 defense.
3: 6% hp, 15% regen, 12 defense.
4: 8% hp, 20% regen, 16 defense.
5: 10% hp, 25% regen, 20 defense.

Blood , active.
For a five minute duration, Amistr's damage is increased and every attack has a chance to leech 20% of the damage as HP.
Author’s note: Not bad, you’d be saving a lot of potions on this pet.

1: 130% atk, 9% chance to leech. Lasts 1 min, 5 min delay
2: 140% atk, 18% chance to leech. Lasts 2 min, 10 min delay
3: 150% atk, 27% chance to leech. Lasts 3 min, 15 min delay

Filir.
-this pet was built for speed and agility. Its excellent for breaking emperiums and for swift kills. Expect some Alchie or Creator emp breakers on the Castle Gates. /gg

Moonlight, active.
Filir attacks a target with its beak.
Author’s note: Looks like a Blitz Beat or a Falcon Assault but its damage is similar to a level 10 mammonite.

1: 1 hit, 220% damage.
2: 2 hits, 330% damage.
3: 2 hits, 440% damage.
4: 2 hits, 550% damage.
5: 3 hits, 660% damage.

Fleeting Move, active.
Temporarily increase Filir's attack and aspd.
Author’s note: Increased atk spd and damage, looks like a mini berserk for this homunculi. If Berserk Pitcher skill is allowed on this pet, this bird would have the fastest beak on the wild, wild west!

1: +3% aspd, 110% damage, lasts for 60 seconds, 60 second delay.
2: +6% aspd, 115% damage, lasts for 55 seconds, 70 second delay.
3: +9% aspd, 120% damage, lasts for 50 seconds, 80 second delay.
4: +12% aspd, 125% damage, lasts for 45 seconds, 90 second delay.
5: +15% aspd, 130% damage, lasts for 40 seconds, 120 second delay.

Over Speed, active.
Temporarily increase Filir's flee.
Author’s note: Very useful in leveling, sieging and pvping. But remember, this pet can't dodge status ailments such as stun, curse etc etc.., single target and AOE spells and High dex attackers. But still, it’s a must have for this birdie.

1: 20 flee, lasts for 60 seconds, 60 second delay.
2: 30 flee, lasts for 55 seconds, 70 second delay.
3: 40 flee, lasts for 50 seconds, 80 second delay.
4: 50 flee, lasts for 45 seconds, 90 second delay.
5: 60 flee, lasts for 40 seconds, 120 second delay.

SBR44, active.
Lower your Filir's intimacy level in exchange for high damage to a single target.
Author’s note: Break the glass in case of Emergency. /gg

1: Intimacy * 1 damage (Hence 200 - 100000 dmg)
2: Intimacy * 2 damage (Hence 400 - 200000 dmg)
3: Intimacy * 3 damage (Hence 600 - 300000 dmg)

Lif.
- A support homunculus. Very useful on low vit types and high agility builds. And by the way, its Healing Touch Skill can be used on players too.

Healing Touch, active.
Heals the player, or another player if specifically targeted. The skill functions exactly like an Acolyte's Heal. In order to clear up some confusion there's been regarding this, your int has no relevance to the amount healed. It is calculated using the Lif's int. Each use consumes a condensed red potion
Author’s note: Too bad it can’t be used on undead. Anyway, as long as it heal players, its somewhat a necessity on the battlefield

1: 13 sp.
2: 16 sp.
3: 19 sp.
4: 22 sp.
5: 25 sp.

Emergency Evasion, active.
Temporarily increase the moving speed of both Lif and the player.
Author’s note: Pimp my Lif! Cartboost, Creator’s Version. More faster than any move-enhancement skills.

1: 10% faster, 40 second duration.
2: 20% faster, 35 second duration.
3: 30% faster, 30 second duration.
4: 40% faster, 25 second duration.
5: 50% faster, 20 second duration.

Brain Surgery, passive.
Increase Lif's max sp and sp regeneration rate, as well as the amount healied via Healing Touch.
Author’s note: You’re gonna owe Lif bigtime!

1: 1% sp, 3% regen, 2% Healing Touch bonus.
2: 2% sp, 6% regen, 4% Healing Touch bonus.
3: 3% sp, 9% regen, 6% Healing Touch bonus.
4: 4% sp, 12% regen, 8% Healing Touch bonus.
5: 5% sp, 15% regen, 10% Healing Touch bonus.

Mental Change, active.
For a period of three minutes, Lif's vit and int are greatly increased. After activating the skill, HP is fully healed. Non-skill attacks are increased by the Lif's MATK value. After the skill duration has ended, HP and SP are set to 10.
Author’s note: Very usable on extreme healing emergencies. Especially when Lif has very low sp and still full on hp. Much more of the SoulChange of the Professor Class.

1: 1 min durration, +30 vit, +20 int, 10 min delay
2: 2 min durration, +60 vit, +40 int, 15 min delay
3: 3 min durration, +90 vit, +60 int, 20 min delay

Vanilmirth.
-Don't be fooled its form. This type usually has the most potential. just look at the skills. :)

Caprice, active.
Randomly use one of the Bolt-type spells. The skill level used for the spell is determined by the skill level of Caprice.
Author’s note: The bolt types are random so choose a monster carefully. You can combine this ability to spellswords to attain a double level 5 bolts in a single attack.

1: Can use level 1 Bolt-type spell.
2: Can use level 2 Bolt-type spell.
3: Can use level 3 Bolt-type spell.
4: Can use level 4 Bolt-type spell.
5: Can use level 5 Bolt-type spell.

Benediction of Chaos, active
Randomly uses Heal on you, the enemy that you are attacking, or Vanilmirth itself.
Author’s note: This skill is much on the gamble. You can use this even without the presence of the enemy.

1: Heal level 1: Enemy: 50% / Vanilmirth: 20% / Player: 30%.
2: Heal level 1 - 2: - Enemy: 40% / Vanilmirth: 50% / Player: 10%.
3: Heal level 1 - 3: - Enemy: 25% / Vanilmirth: 25% / Player: 50%.
4: Heal level 1 - 4: - Enemy: 36% / Vanilmirth: 60% / Player: 14%.
5: Heal level 1 - 5: - Enemy: 33% / Vanilmirth: 34% / Player: 33%.

Change Instruction, passive.
Increase Vanilmirth's int and str.
Author’s note: Passive skills rocks, what can I say.

1: 1 int / 1 str.
2: 2 int / 1 str.
3: 2 int / 3 str.
4: 4 int / 4 str.
5: 5 int / 4 str.

Bio Explosion, active.
Vanilmirth self destructs and inflicts defense ignoring damage on everything within a 5x5 square around it. The damage is based off it's maximum HP, and after the attack, intimacy is reduced to 200. If your intimacy is too low, the skill will fail.
Author’s note: This is similar to SphereMines but more ly. Very risky too use. You might be killed on its blasting radius. You can combine this with SphereMines for more greater potential.

Level 1: MaxHP * 1 dmg
Level 2: MaxHP * 1.5 dmg
Level 3: MaxHP * 2 dmg
Minimum Required Intimacy: 45000 [Author's Note: it actually meant 450 points]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
vi. build speculations and combinations
Here's the two basic builds. I didn't post any specific numbers; so simply tweak it until it suits your taste. And yes, low, moderate, and high can be objective, but that's the whole point of it. For the "Skills:" part, what I list are merely recommendations as to what skills will best complement the build; because a skill isn't there, doesn't mean you shouldn't get it. Also, there are no valid reasons for skipping out on maxed Potion Research and Aid Potion, as they are an important part of any build, and thus I'm not going to list them under skills.

Agility based.
Quote:

Str : Moderate to high.
Agi : Moderate to high.
Vit : Low to moderate.
Int : Moderate to high
Dex : Moderate to high.
Luk : Low.

Alchem/Creator Skills: Bio-Cannibalize, FCP(creator), Mammonite, AD(creator)

Paired with a Blacksmith, you should have a very nice damage output. You'll also do fine solo. However, with low vit your potions won't heal for that much and your hp will be somewhat lacking. Summoning a Geographer when things start getting a little hectic for the added healing and damage is extremely beneficial. A hefty amount of agility is required to get the necessary flee needed as well. A little luk can be added if you like to see critical hits pop out now and then, but it's not required by any means.

Due to moderate vit, a Lif or Vanilmirth can pump your hp up thus helping you save tons of potions. Synergically speaking, I recommend Filir for this type.

This build can also be used if you’re in rush to be a Creator.

Vitality based.
Quote:

Str : Low.
Agi : Low.
Vit : Moderate to high.
Int : Moderate to high.
Dex : Moderate to high.
Luk : Low.

Alchem/Creator Skills: Acid , , Summon Marine Sphere, AD(creator), FCP(creator)

This is recommended build for all Alchemist and Creators. Due to high figures of Vit, you’re likely to do the Bio-explosion/SphereMine combo, which increases your potential on WoE and pvp. Due to your high Int value, you can finish them with AD with such relative ease.

Amistr would be your best bet here, due to its skills focused on defense. Vanilmirth if you want some sprees.

This build can go for WoE, pVp and MvP hunting anytime, anywhere.
