Erinskie rocks. And I have to give her total props too, for being just a cool person as well as a great writer. I had written a story with Scout Curtis as a Curtis sister before ever reading any of hers. Then when I discovered fanfiction, and read hers, I freaked out because I figured she would get upset if I posted my story too (though, believe me, our Scouts and plotlines are pretty different!) But she was absolutely cool about the whole thing, and encouraged me to post anyway. Now THAT's what fanfiction is all about! |

Were both of your Scout's inspired by the TV series? I remember noticing two Scout-based stories (but they weren't the Scout from the show) and wondered if that's where it had come from. |

I think Erinskie and I both read To Kill a Mockingbird around the same time we had read the Outsiders. I can't speak for her, but I kind od identified with Scout from that book and, to me she seemed like she would be a viable voice for a Curtis sister... curious, mischevious, but perceptive (and not perfect, and NOT Mary-Sue, though when I was 11 I'm sure she was more Mary-Sueish than I write her as now.) It turns out that we are the same age so maybe we just had similar perceptions of the character as kids. I thought it was just plain WEIRD that the character on TV was Scout, and even weirder when I found that other people had Scouts as a Curtis sister. |

actually, the first time i started writing a sister-fic, i had given her the name "scout" because of - yes, you guessed it - "to kill a mockingbird". i thought it was appropriate and it wasn't too outlandish or weird, but then i found erinkie's lol. oh well. that particular sister-fic will never see the light of day. i like the one i'm doing now just fine. :) |
