It's an alternate ending to the book where Johnny doesn't die, but it's all very plausible and realistically executed. It deals with the aftermath of the church burning, the healing process, and the impact of Johnny's disabilities on the rest of the gang's lives as a real issue. The writing is pretty decent, none of the OCs (and there aren't really that many) come across as Mary-Sues, the author appears to have done some research on the treatment of such injuries, and everything is realistic.
