THE WORLD CUP HAS ARRIVED TO AFRICA

Posted Image

Aksum, Federal Republic of Ethiopia, Federation of United African Nations - With the hot rays of the sun beating down on football fan and fanatic alike, the excitement at this World Cup only grows stronger and more palpable.

The shadow of the Porcuian Civil War, a global conflict having only ended mere months ago, hangs over the events in the African Federation. Many of the belligerent nations are participating in this World Cup Finals and their millions of supporters are eager to move past the images and recollections of the war.

The African Federation has been particularly active: financing necessary stadium reconstructions, slowly building up numbers of personnel and equipment, expanding transportation, and generally putting on their best possible selves for the rest of the world. The results, it must be said, are impressive. The African Federation is a proud and rich nation and it shows in the way they have welcomed OPOP and global football to Africa.

What remains to be seen is whether that also translates to success on the pitch. Competition for football's highest honor is fierce and a number of particularly strong nations are expected to make serious efforts at winning the tournament. The current defenders of the World Cup is Porcu, OPOP recognizing the Republic as the legal successor to the title originally won by small Californian city-state of Viroconium. However, the Porcuians are not expected to progress deep into the tournament for obvious reasons.

The favorites for this tournament's finals are the Russian Empire and the Federation of United African Nations. However, the Austrian Empire and the Libyan Republic are expected to also challenge for the title. Darkhorse nations, according to odds-makers, include the newer participants the Republic of Krosana, the Bulgarian Empire, and United Amirati Emirates.

PORCUIAN NATIONAL TEAM OFF TO SOLID START

Posted Image

Mbabane, Federal Republic of Swaziland, United Federation of African Nations - The Republic still simmers from the embers of the Civil War, but the passions aroused by the splendid play of the men of the national football team were of joy and excitement.

"We wanted to get off to a good start here in the African Federation and we knew that, with the other nations in our group, there would be little room for mistakes." stated the captain Claudius Sulpicius Rufus in the post-match press conference.

"I was very pleased with the way that the boys stepped out onto the pitch, ready to play and ready to dig in and fight for victory." added coach Lucius Terentius Baffoe Sexinus.

Terentius Baffoe is the first non-white and black coach of the Porcuian national side in its storied history. Relatively inexperienced in club management, Terentius Baffoe was seen as an ideal candidate for taking charge of the reformed Porcuian mens national team following the reorganization of the Porcuian Football Association within the new Committee of Culture, subsequent to the rebirth of the Porcuian Republic. The new manager of the national side is noted to favor a more quick, direct, and attacking style of play - the results of which were on full display in the first match. Porcuian commentators and fans alike, whose love for the beautiful game knows no bounds, positively gushed at the pace and intensity that the team showed against Chirondom.

Porcu created a plethora of chances early on, but were unable to score due to poor finishing and the supreme efforts of the Chirondom goalkeeper. However, the Republic finally managed to grab the lead in stoppage time, just before the end of the first half. The second half of the game was less intense, but no less entertaining, as the Asian side slowly woke and over a 15 minute stretch were able to test the Porcuian defense. In the end, the only goal of the game proved enough, and Porcu now looks ahead to the second game with confidence.
