President Mujahid Ali Alsaeed in an attempt to further promote regional recognition on the world stage signed the Persian Gulf Homosexuality Act. The Act makes homosexuality legal above the age of 21 (the age of consent in the U.A.E). The act allowing gays and their partners to engage in sexual intercourse with each other without governmental scrutiny was passed earlier today. Private, non-commercial and consensual homosexual and heterosexual sexual intercourse with anyone under the age of twenty-one years is essentially deemed to be similar to statutory rape, although the non-consent of the victim is legally presumed if he or she is less than fourteen years. If the victim is at least sixteen years old, then the offender can be sentenced to up to ten years in prison. However, the death penalty is the punishment where the victim is under sixteen years of age. Likewise, the penal code has stiff penalties for prostitution or using deception or force in a sexual relationship. The act is a long step towards advancing international opinions on the region, however, cross-dressing and transgenderism is still a crime and is punishable by fines and imprisonment. The act would allow homosexuals and their partners to engage in legal sexual activity with each other and to go out on "dates". They are still expected to follow Amirati laws stating that open displays of affection and sexual behavior in public are a crime and therefore like everyone else they to need to keep their private lives at home to avoid legal prosecution. Though in the eyes of government it is made legal, just like anywhere else they may still face public scrutiny by homophobic individuals, but with U.A.E hate crime laws enforced heavily it is expected that there should be no issues. President Mujahid Ali Alsaeed released a statement following his signing of the Act. "We are a progressive nation, gays are people and they deserve to be treated as such. A lot of the old practices were due to misconceptions involving homosexuality. In order to show our progressive nature, I believe it was necessary to sign this act for the world stage and the entirety of the international community". |

"We support and accept your recognition. In regards to Jewish acceptance, that for us is a little out of reach. Due to political situations the Amirati government does not support the establishment of a Jewish state nor does it recognize it culturally. Therefore as of now the Amirati state does not support or allow people of that particular identity to enter our sovereignty based on political situations here in the U.A.E. Though in the future it may occur as of now it is completely unknown and very far-fetched". |
