Football in Greater Cape

"Bafana Bafana" is a nickname that was given to the Capetonian national men's team by its fans. It is Zulu and translates literally as "the boys, the boys." Its actual meaning in Zulu is, "Go boys! Go boys!" though others take the double use of "Bafana" to mean "all of the boys"---the team and management, as well as the spectators; togetherness, as in the African concept of ubuntu. Likewise, the national women's team is nicknamed "Banyana Banyana," meaning "the girls, the girls."
