Heihe, Eastern Empire.....

A soft breeze fell over the area as truck after truck, tank after tank rumbled through the border cross between the western most border of the Eastern Empire into a region they called inner Mongolia. At a time it was the territory of a enemy of the Empire. They had come to power despite the Empire's own efforts to shape their nation and because of their interference their leader saw the Empire as an enemy, a threat. When the Empire was weakest, following the Dominion Wars, the Mongolians invaded and for a time they ransacked the northwestern province of the Empire on their march towards the capital. They were strong in numbers and their determination was matched by few in all the world. Yet even at their weakest moment the Eastern Empire, the great Dragon of Asia, rose to the challenge. The battle outside of Beijing was among the fiercest ever fought in all its history. Hundreds dying upon the battlefield and hundreds more after the battle was over. Yet in the end, the Empire prevailed over its enemy and prove to time that none other was stronger, more resilient, better in battle than they.

Èrjíjiàng (General) Nam Sung had fought in that battle personally, though not under the rank he now so proudly war. He was the fifth son, of the 34th house of Sung. His father had been an honored tank commander in his time and his family heritage stretched back generations of proud and honorable military men, something that was not uncommon with most men of the Empire. Days before he'd been summoned to Beijing, having not been in the city since the battle. He was most honored to come before the Emperor's own war chamber, to speak personally with the War Council. It was there that he was informed that after much debate among the general staff, it had been decided at long last that the Empire would annex the norther reaches of inner Mongolia, reclaiming territory the Emperor already ruled. General Sung was chosen personally by the Emperor, to which he himself expressed his confidence to Sung. Though he'd found with Yu at the battle of Beijing, he was merely a Prince then. Now Emperor of the Eastern Empire, the man was a God and to lay upon him with his own eyes was an honor in and of itself. Yu also expressed to General Sung that once taken, the new territory would need a Governor and that the Sung family would be highly favored at the General's success.

With this all in his mind now, he looked through his binoculars with great zealous over the countryside that lay before him and the hundreds of Eastern Imperial Soldiers now invading the area. Back in Beijing now announcement would be made about the annexation, neither to the people, nor to the international community. The Emperor needed not the permission of the people nor of any country in the world to take what was rightfully his. Once inner Mongolia was taken, of course, he would relay his success to the people of the Eastern Empire.

A Communique to the Eastern Empire, from the Empire of Chirondom:

Chirondom will recognize the Eastern Empire's annexation of Inner Mongolia on one of two conditions:

1) The Eastern Empire evacuate Taiwan and transfer sovereignty of the territory to Chirondom.
2) The Eastern Empire agrees to recognize some future expansion of Chirondom in the territory of China.

The forbidden City, Beijing...

Within the halls

The military chiefs of his imperial majesty's war council were all gathered within his majesty's own war chamber. The leaders sat on pillows along a large table, a map of inner Mongolia and the neighboring territories draped across the table. Elevated from the main floor on platform floor sat the Emperor himself, his raised positioned allowed him to look down on those who served him. The expansion into Inner Mongolia was going well as far as reports from the front were saying. Most communities were surrendering at the sight of the Empire's troops, other surrender after the men were slaughtered. The chiefs seated along either side of the table sat humbled by the progress and discussed confidently among themselves over the final strategy of the expansion. Naturally, the Emperor could hear everything but until something was directed to the Son of Heaven he simply sat and watched. Also among the main guests and host of the hall were the many eunuchs of the court. Those that served in the war chamber were more unfortunate that the usual eunuchs that served the court in that they that their tongues removed so they could speak of nothing they saw or heard. Raised illiterate, they could not write about it either but in the end these were unnecessary precautions as the eunuchs served faithfully to the Emperor. Most of the eunuchs were there to serve refreshments and to move about papers from one end of the long table to the other. A few served food and drink directly to the Emperor while others stood behind the military chiefs or on either side of the Emperor and waved large fans. They served little actual purpose given the modern luxury of central heating and air but Emperor Yu still demanded it if, for no other reasons, than simply because he could.

Entering quietly from a side door, the Emperor's First Minister, Sun Chéng, walked slowly into the room and approached the Imperial Majesty. Bowing rather over-dramatically before the Son of Heaven he began speaking softly to Yu so as only the Emperor could hear. The Military Chiefs took notice and a slow hush soon spread over the delegates of the table as they awaited to hear what kind of news the First Minister had brought the Emperor. Yu began to chuckle as Sun Chéng finished and this only served to further intrigue the delegates further. Finally the Emperor waved the First Minister aside so that he could speak more directly to his own war council.

"It seems that our rightful claim to Inner Mongolia as spurred the interest of Chirondom and the Europeans that occupy Hong Kong. Chirondom's demands do not surprise me, they have always opposed the greatest and purity of the Empire with their foreign and misguided ways. However, that these new Europeans feel so bold as to follow suit is....troubling. Nevertheless it seems our claimant over Inner Mongolia will only be recognized by the Chirondom King if we give them Taiwan and promise to recognize their further incursions into Asia. The Europeans believe that Inner Mongolia should be given a vote."

The room remained silent as everyone took in the words of the Emperor and awaited his own response. Only moments later did Yu began to laugh, prompting the rest of the room to burst out in their own laughter. This lasted for several minutes until at last Yu raised a hand and silence almost instantly returned to the chamber.

"I believe that our enemies have forgotten that we are the great Eastern Empire. China, Asia, all of the Orient as it has been called, is our domain. We neither seek, desire, or believe we must have their permission to do anything here. What I seek to possess I shall have or I shall burn asunder so none can possess it. What is the status of our fleets?"

"Your most graciousness, our fleets are on the standby, the Northern Fleet is in Korea, the East Fleet is in Taiwan, the Southern fleet...."

"Enough" Yu stated, interrupting the military commander's answer. "Have the Northern Fleet begin amassing in the Yellow Sea, the Southern in the South Chinese Sea. Tell them to remain in international waters and to hold their position until further contact. Tell our Generals in Inner Mongolia to continue without delay. Communique no official response to either country, we shall allow the show of force to give our proper response."

In a resounding nod of agreement, the chiefs went straight to work coordinating the Emperor's wishes. Within the hour, ships began setting sail from their respective harbors and began amassing at the coordinates designated by Yu himself. Elsewhere, in Inner Mongolia, Imperial forces continued their march across the landscape. Being welcomed as heroes in some villages and towns while being resisted in other. The resistance was naturally futile as the men of the army crushed the opposition with little effort. Still, for them the thrill of battle was what they lived for and some went even so far as to resent the places that welcomed them. They were cowards, most dishonorable not to fight those that were taking their lands from them.

Inner Mongolia....

The terrain of Inner Mongolia was harsh, mountainous, and unforgiving to the Chinese soldiers that how traversed it. In the wake of their march across the landscape of a region they already called their own, they left mostly the plums of smoke and the smell of death. The people of this chaotic region of the world were simply, they lived mostly agrarian lifestyles and for the few that possessed weapons they were primitive compared to that of the Chinese. Though harsh the terrain was, the invasion force was making good time and had covered a great distance. Many small towns and villages now flew the flag of the Eastern Empire, they themselves now swearing their lives to the Great Emperor Yu. For the Chinese soldiers participating in the Inner Mongolian expedition, they felt invigorated. Long had they grown with the stories of their father's and grandfathers conquests. Many of their families were rich with histories that intertwined with that of the Empire. Stories of wars with the Sakha and the Assassins, how the Empire pushed its way out of Korea and into China itself. The Empire's history books were written with the blood of those the Eastern Empire had slain, their lands conquered.

Overhead the great roar of jets could be heard as the Eastern Empire's air force secured their air superiority over the region. There was no enemy air power to worry over so such a task was easy, unfortunately. The pilots occasionally took out their frustrations by playing target practice with random farmhands out in their fields. The commanders of the expedition were pleasantly pleased with the progress being made. No doubt their return to the Empire would come with great feasts in their honor. Their reports were generally filled with subtle gloats all the while praising the Emperor himself and forward about the fact that their success was due to the Son of Heaven's infallible rule.

The Forbidden Palace, Beijing....

It had taken little time for the Northern and Southern fleets to assemble as the Emperor had requested. Both now sitting in international wars outside of Chirondom and Hong Kong an Macau respectively. Their presence was simply a show of force by the Empire, reminding both that they did not take threats on their Imperial prerogative lightly. So far neither power had responded to the act and Emperor's own war council was divided on where to go from here.

"We should attack" was the cries of some within the Council. "They have insulted the honor of the Empire and questioned our authority in Asia. We could have troops in their capitals in less than a week, force them to bend to our authority!"

"Such actions would be foolish" were the arguments against such actions by others in the council. "We are still an Empire rebuilding, to dedicate ourselves to such a war, one on two fronts no doubt, would be costly. While I do not doubt our inevitable success, the costs would outweigh the gains."

The arguments between the two factions of the council practically dominated the meeting until at last the Emperor himself spoke, his voice silencing the room almost instantly.

"We shall not simply go to war with either power due to insults alone" he stated calmly. "They do not insult our honor by their words, but instead attempt to test our resolve. No doubt both powers do not wish to go to war with us as they will lose. No, if anything, they will only chose courses of actions that will attempt to subvert us diplomatically. They have not the will for war as we do and so our show of forces should be enough to prove our own resolve in this matter. In the mean time, have our forces in Inner Mongolia double their efforts, I want the territory secure within two days time."

From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sumatra

The illegitimate Porcuian Empire has little moral ground to stand on as it illegitimately occupies the Northern region of our Kingdom and other lands in Southeast Asia and beyond. Until these occupations are ended, the Kingdom of Sumatra notes the hypocrisy of the regime in Ariminae, and implores the government of Porcu to consider the impacts that its own occupations have in dividing the families, cultural treasures, and interconnectedness of our island kingdom.

The 3rd Fleet of the Republic, Classis III, based in Hong Kong & Macau left their ports and rested near the edge of Porcuian territorial waters. Additionally, the overseas province's railgun defensive fortification network shifted to keep watch over any possible move by the Chinese fleet.

To further add to the pressure, the Republic's 6th Fleet, stationed in Viroconium, made for the open seas of the Pacific - set to sail, first, for the province of Polinesinum, and, second, to Singapore where the 5th Legion would be moved.
