One year before the attack on Trebizond....

Posted Image

Night was quickly descending upon the capital city of Azerbaijan. Baku, an ancient and brilliant city, it was a great industrial center for Transcaucasia and its prominence was only growing. Oil had been making the rulers of this fair city rich for generations after its discovery, despite the exploitation of the Russians from time to time. Though the infrastructure the manufacture the crude was primitive by global standards, it was efficient enough to keep the oil flowing. Efficiency was what Besiki Asatiani, leader of the Military Republic of Azerbaijan believed it with almost religious fanaticism. The elections in Transcaucasia had only just been resolved and with the Union Party's success, Asatiani was assured a vocal part in the new unified government. Though skeptical when first approached by the previous peace talks and the notion of a coalition government, he was pleased how efficiently things had gone in his favor. The Union Party and its leaders, many of whom had been picked especially by Asatiani, were men and woman that could do their job and get it done in record fashion.

Standing in the doorway of the dinning room within his private mansion in Baku, he watched as the servants set the table. Tonight was another important moment in his life, perhaps as important as his brief decision was with the Scythirians during the peace negotiations. How fruitful that was he thought to himself as he hoped for a similar outcome by the end of the night. So entranced by his own thoughts, he did not notice his personal aide approach him. Hazi Usubov cleared this throat to get the Generalissimo's attention. "I do apologize for the interruption sir but I just received word that your guest was received and is now being driven here. He should arrive momentarily."

"Ah, yes.....good, good" Asatiani said with a grin. "They have just finished with the table so we should be ready to eat as soon as the representative arrives.

Usubov was a very close aid to the Generalissimo, a man for whom he looked at as a father. To his credit, Asatiani had confided a great deal in Usubov and thus there was little the aide did not know. "Do you think this meeting is wise" Usubov questioned. Asatiani was always a man who was welcome for criticism, when it was appropriate. "After all, we have already had to make the deal with one devil, why tempt fate with another."

"You worry to much Hazi" Asatiani stated, again with a grin. "Our business with Scythirus is just that, business. They are the predominant power in the Middle East and furthermore, they're disposed to keeping Russia out at all cost. It was only natural that a deal should be met between our two persons. The meeting tonight however, is different. Tonight is about pleasure, its about a dream that I very much wish to see realized in my lifetime. It can be done but we will need their help to accomplish it. Besides, were it not for those weapons we've been selling on the black market, I might not have been given this opportunity at all. Its not like we can simply look up their phone number you know."

"Still, it just seems like a dangerous game" Hazi lamented. "Besides the Union Party's government has only barely gotten of the ground, isn't it a bit early to be thinking alternatively."

"The Union Party and their government is a means to an end, but not the end itself Hazi" Asatiani said affirmatively. "They have always been just that and shall always been just that. However, if tonight goes well, the end will be far closer than it has ever been before. Within my grasp, I'd dare to say." Asatiani looked at the clock on the wall, "hmmm their representative should be here soon. Make yourself useful and fetch the best Georgian wine we have on stock."

Hazi, still not convinced over the necessity of the evening simply gave a nod and left the room. "Oh my dear Hazi, my dear simply-minded Hazi. How different the world must look through your eyes. Makes no difference, the world is as it is and this dinner is as important as any other I could ever host...."

The South African had been especially pleased when he'd recieved the call. The Transcontinental Contingent Group had just made it's presence known to the world some months ago and already he was making progress. To the point that he had already paid off the seed money he had recieved from the ICBBC, who now addressed him like an equal rather than a client. And now a meeting in Baku. He had been planning the final phase of his operation to free His Excellency when they'd called.

He would go himself of course. Julius was a good lad and an even better soldier, but still needed seasoning in the art of negotiation. Besides, something of this importance, one tended to go oneself. Though he would take on a disguise and assumed name, as per his usual MO.

Baku

12 hours later, a Martin Gensch arrived at the hotel. He checked in and took the elevator to the 8th floor. There he placed his bags, freshened up, and made sure his professionally done make up and prosthetics was in place. He put on a red sweater and then made a call to a room on the 9th floor. He explained that Generalissimo Astiani had been expecting him. For the next fifteen minutes, he gave passwords and id codes in a pre-arranged fashion to let them know he was the same man. The man at the other end of the phone then told him the Generalissimo was ready to recieve him in the VIP section of the hotel restaurant.

When he arrived, he saw a hearty dinner before him. The Generalissimo motioned for him to sit.

"I take it there was no trouble Mister..ah.."

"Gensch. For now. And no trouble at all."

"Then let's get started."

Besiki Asatiani grinned from ear to ear when Mr. Gensch first entered the room. Asatiani had only recently brushed his military tunic, his medals almost glowed under the gentle light of the chandeliers of the dinning hall. After the two gentlemen exchanged a hearty hand-shake the Generalissimo offered his guest a seat, a butler pulling the seat out for Mr. Gensch who quickly sat himself. After being seats, others of the wait staff began pouring the water as well as the wine. Asatiani raised his glass to Mr. Gensch before taking a sip of his own glass.

"I hope you'll enjoy your dinner Mr. Gensch" Asatiani stated with a smile. "The wine is one of the finest vintage Georgian wine in the region. A pride of their people, their wineries are and to be honest, it is truly some of the finest in the immediate region."

"It is quite nice" Gensch stated after taking a taste.

"I must admit that I was very surprised when I was told that we had such a dedicated and major buyer in our war stocks" Asatiani said. "When I authorized the underground sell, I only believed we'd fine a few radical groups around the world to supply. However, as I am told, your group has bought up a substantial amount of our stocks."

"We have big plans"

"I can only imagine" Asatiani replied, "I won't presume that I could be privy to such plans at this time. After all, your group represents a very disliked era of world history though in truth, I find this to be unfair. The World Military Dominion was may things, as I understand it, but I feel those who have written history and written its history, unfairly. I myself was a young man during that area and while I did not personally see fighting, on either side, I was an admirer of Konstantin Ganz Gassel, which in today's world is not easy to say."

Asatiani took another sip of his wine. "I can remember when I first read The Soldier's Manifesto. I felt as if, for the first time, someone had put into the written language things I myself had felt all my life. I have for many years now read and re-read that beautiful literary work and have model much of the Military Republic here, after the principals of that book. Of course, I have made where I have seen fit, some adjustments and have evolved the common core of those principals to work for us. However, despite these changes I have maintained the core of the principals Gassel, the great teacher, put forth in his book. It is those principals, I feel, history has forgotten. Unjustifiably, history dares to teach us that Gassel as a tyrant, a military dictator bent only a dominating the world for himself. This I believe is a great mistake and complete fabrication of the truth for what the World Military Dominion stood for. I fully believe the Dominion was not simply a tool of Gassel's but an extension of his vision for the new order. An order which not only sought to unite the world under one just, peaceful, and orderly government but one which looked to destroy nationalism, ethnicity, and other worldly divisions in our society and create in this void the one true race, the human race."

"What then" Asatiani stated, as he continued, "can be said about Gassel other than that he was a visionary of his time. To be so brave and so bold as to attempt to usher the uncivilized world into a new era of cooperation and peace among the entire human race?" Asatiani sighed, "sadly, the world was blind and allowed monarchist and democrats to spread their propaganda. The day the World Military Dominion fell I vowed to carry on Gassel's legacy in whatever capacity I could. I have built Azerbaijan into a state that reflect Domionist ideas and now I wish to carry that message further. I know there are others in Georgia and Armenia that would welcome such a message. However, I know there are elements abroad that continue to attempt to shape our destiny for us. Like the Dominion, we here are plague my deceptions and propaganda."

Asatiani paused, "Oh but I have spoken so much and allow you so little, I apologize. I sometimes find myself preaching to the choir when it is something I am passionate about. Please, Mr. Gensch, tell me about the organization you represent. Other than your need of our weapons, we know so little and it is my desire that before this dinner is through that not only do we know more about one another but that hopefully such knowledge ushers in a friendship of cooperation."

"We are the Transcontinental Contingent Group," replied Gensch, "The great Hermann Kahr created what he called the Transcontinental Contingency, a resistance movement that would use any and all means necessary, particularly asymmetric warfare, to destroy the old order, to make way for true followers of the Supreme World Order, such as yourself, to then reseed the Dominion and regrow the great world as proscribed in the Soldier's Manifesto. The TCG is that contigency in action, activated after Kahr's disappearance during the Fall of Kasnyia."

"Our intentions are simple. We intend to bring the world to it's knees. We'll start somewhere small, to test. Then we'll start hitting the major powers, one by one. The means of which to do so are still being researched, but we have some good leads. At the same time, we will find lands uncontrolled by the old order and seize them for those willing to restart the Dominion, even by ourselves, if necessary."

"We also intend to give justice to those wrongfully imprisoned by the old order. Be it a Dominion infantryman or Gassel himself, we intend to liberate them all for the cause."

"Yes, yes...the cause of the New World Order" Asatiani stated with excitement. "Mr. Gensch I will be somewhat blunt with you when I say that you seem like a man who knows how to get a job done. Indeed, I admire such qualities given that it is on the merits of our work that we should be judged, not our words or our ideals alone. I believe your cause to be of the utmost importance and wish to continue to contribute as best we can. However, while I did indeed invite you here for the purpose of solidifying my own contributions, I also admit it is not without a request of my own."

"You see, here in Azerbaijan I have molded a great society but that society is under constant threat. Republicans, Monarchists, and all sorts of other undesirables threaten my government at every corner. I have done everything possible to curb this threat but like most vermin, unless you get them all even one can eventually multiply into more. I am fortunate however, that a new way forward has presented itself in the form of this new Union State between the Transcaucasian nations. Objectionably, the Union State is a symbol of democracy and democratic values, great threats to what I've built here. However, I agreed to this Union State because of the opportunity to have all the vermin of Transcaucasia to come from their hiding spot. In a few years time, all the Republicans, Communists, Monarchist, and the like will be out in the open and then I will have my chance."

"My problem is that I lack the tools necessary to achieve my end goal. I have the facilities and can readily get the materials but I lack the sophisticated minds necessary to build what I envision. Perhaps this is bold of me to say, but I imagine Mr. Gensch that minds such as those that I speak of, are not so hard to come by in your organization. After all, the Dominion had some of the finest scientific minds in history under its umbrella. I such men and women of science were sent here I am sure it would not take long before the fruits of a dream could be realized."

Asatiani gazed off for a moment before looking back at his guest, who undoubtedly was wondering what was in it for him and his organization.

"Of course" he said continuing at last, "I don't mean to ask so much without offering something in return. After all business is business and you can't get without giving isn't that right Mr. Gensch. Naturally, first and foremost the fruits of our labor would be for the both of us to enjoy. We can provide the materials, the facility space, and when the time comes a place for testing. In exchange, we offer not only the weapons we are already selling to your organization but to mass-produce our venture for your needs. Also, I offer Azerbaijan as a place for refuge for your organization and this offer will extend to the whole of Transcaucasia, should I ultimately be successive. Of course, I can only be success if you are will to accept such an offer Mr. Gensch."

"Just tell me which kind of minds you require and it shall be yours," Gensch replied warmly, "You have a deal, Generalissimo."

Asatiani grinned ear to ear before writing down a few things on a piece of paper and then handing it to his guests. "Individuals of whom possess those particular skills were what I had in mind Mr. Gensch. Again I assure you that every accommodation will while they are here." The two men continued to discuss the finer details of the arrangement over a rather lavish and delicious dinner. When the last of the courses had been plated and both men had eat their fill, Asatiani soon walked his guest to the door.

"Mr. Gensch I believe that tonight we've set in motion a very lucrative partnership. I look forward to hearing from you or one of your associates soon."
