OC: Hey guys, I think I need to clear some things up! Porcu, the Imperial Palace is not located in Nicosia - it's located in Ejy. As well as this, Nicosia in the NS Universe and in Real Life does not have an airport. The island's main international airport is in Larnaca. Sorry for being such a stress head!

OOC: Is there anything else we should know, such as place names, locations of ports/airports/extra cities/special infrastructure? If so, just edit your post above and we'll use the info there as a reference. Don't worry, Yol, but this sort of info is necessary and it would have been convenient to have it sooner.

OOC: Sorry, it's just that I thought everyone would have known by now that the Imperial Palace was in Ejy, because I usually do mention it quite a lot! Everything else is correct - in a lot of Yoloysese cities, there are a lot of Daina Shrines - some which house the bodies of dearly departed members of the Imperial Family (the shrines themselves are based off actual Shinto Shrines) and there are two main city squares in Nicosia, Tsjyr Square is the Yoloysese name for the historical Faneromeni Square whilst Eleftheria Square is the current/modern city centre, this is where the city hall is located.

OOC: I think it would be a safe assumption (but I'm not at all saying this is the case) to believe the Yoloyese imperial family would have a residence akin to a palace inside their country's capital. Therefore, while it would not be the imperial palace per say, Agioi Omologitai could be an imperial residence in the capital. Heck, the Habsburgs have three imperial residencies inside Austria alone. Could we proceed based on this assumption, Yol? IC: With events proceeding rapidly in the cities of Nicosia and Mojyke, Austrian commanders began exhibiting caution for the first time since they landed in Kyrenia a few weeks ago. With news of a general halting of Porcuian forces in the South, the Austrians had come to realize that they too had began exhausting their standing fuel supplies and could benefit from some much needed rest and relaxation. Therefore, the ever swift advance by the 114th Grenadier division in the West was promptly halted with Austrian soldiers laying as far west as the recently liberated towns of Nikitas and Kato Zodeia. In the northeast, the situation remained the same with Austrian forces stopping and recuperating just outside the Whaladyan held villages of Agios Fatois and Agios Sozomenios. From their main bases in Kyrenia, Dhavlos, and Morphou, some much needed stock of fuel, water, and medical supplies were airlifted from elements of the 2nd Fleet still stationed offshore and given to the resting forces of the Reichsheer. Despite the general stop, not all Austrian forces remained idle and recuperating. To the East, the 115th Grenadier Division continued its ambitious drive to link up with their marine brethren outside the city of Mojyke. By the time Mojyke was completely surrounded, the 115th had relieved the Whaladyan garrison at Prastio and was moving swiftly in the direction of the Royal Marines. Not surprisingly, the Austrian "sieges" of Nicosia and Mojyke were also exempt from the order. Indeed, the Austrian encirclement of Mojyke placed ICONOY one step closer in securing a lasting supply terminus in the north. Even as the Royal Marines began coordinating their plans with the city's Whaladyan garrison, the Austrian Luftwaffe continued its airlifting of supplies countrywide to continue the essential facilitation of food and medical supplies to the population. ---- Nicosia.. The arrival of the Porcuian paratroopers had greatly surprised the Reichswehr and had severely hampered the relations between Whaladyan Regional Command and their Austrian equivalents. Matters were further strained when reports coming from the SPEZGRU infiltrators had confirmed that the supposed blackout had indeed been falsified in an effort to keep Austrian forces from entering the city. The Austrians wore an array of scowled faces as they rode/marched past hundreds of windows painted black in order to facilitate the façade of a city crippled by darkness. Luckily for the Austrians, their entrance into Nicosia was rapid and complete with little to slow their ambitious drive. The Whaladyan roadblocks had been a tricky obstacle at first, but the skill and tenacity of the Pioneers had quickly removed said obstructions from existence with the use of a few demolition charges. Further Whaladyan obstruction continued, but was largely unsuccessful in doing little more than stalling for mere seconds rather than the intended minutes their commanders had likely been praying for. However, more than anything, it was the flawless execution by SPEZGRU and their Grenzer counterparts in seizing the majority of Nicosia's bridges and tunnels which would give the Austrians the upper hand. The Porcuians had made significant gains despite the lack of vehicular support, but the Austrians had this very ally and, coupled with the actions of their special forces, the Reichsheer would occupy a whole 3/4's of the city eventually. As the paratroopers seized various points of interest across the opposite side of the Pedieos river, including the large bridge in the South, Austrian forces concentrated along the water front in one area, whilst further elements used their mobility to wrap around the rest of the Aglantzia limits. In effect, the Porcuian paratroopers were relegated to control of the surrounding neighborhoods and the residence at Agioi Omologitai only with further elements quickly realizing they could become cut off as the Austrian advance solidified. Meanwhile, in his new temporary FOB at Nicosia's main hospital, General Walter von Kassel continued to relay orders to his troops. Fastening the buttons to his jacket, the young general prepared for a short journey to the front to personally survey the situation. In little under several minutes by his personal vehicle, von Kassel stood at the rivers edge and starred across at the Porcuians occupying the southern bridge. At the same time, a few miles away, the men of Colonel Marc Klein's SPEZGRU team "Bismarck" were just reaching the outskirts of the Agios Prokopios Church. They could see the Porcuian paratroopers making camp within the compound and took notice of how they operated. While there would certainly be no skirmish, the men of SPEZGRU had been trained to study and analyze the defining features and actions of their counterparts. From the relative concealment of the surrounding foliage, Colonel Klein radioed to his commanding officer on a secure line. "General sir, we have eyes on a Porcuian detachment at Agios Prokopios. They appear to be taking residence at the local parish. Over." "Excellent work, Colonel," von Kassel radioed back. "Take note of their positions and radio to me any future movements. Over." "Sir?" Klein responded, a question begging to leave his lips. "Shouldn't we make contact to establish future relations?" "Do you deem that the situation requires such communication?" von Kassel asked. "You're my forward eyes, Colonel. It's your call. Over." "Roger that, sir," Klein replied as he scratched at his bandanna. "Permission to relay to Command should a more senior officer greet me?" "Granted, Colonel. I'll be here should you need me," von Kassel responded. "Command, out." Klein killed the transmission and surveyed the church one last time. While part of him understood the benefit of remaining quiet and surveying future Porcuian movements, there was an innate curiosity in him to confer with his competitors - to test their metal and to learn more about them. As he looked around him, he received the confirmation he was looking for in the smiles and nodding of his men. As he switched the radio frequency to an open line the Porcuian transmitters would receive he tuned back to his men. "Well, lets go meet some paratroopers..." Edited by Whal, Aug 14 2014, 10:23 AM.

The Republic High Command on the flagship after seeing the video had order a full inquiry into the matter and had order the arresting of all Libyan soldiers involved by the military police and were to be taken back to the republic to face a court martial for the violation of their Commander-in-Chief orders to fight in the ways of Islam. Additionally they order any soldier found doing anything similar or violating the orders of their majesty will face similar action and would have to answer to the Sultan for their shamefully actions that blacken the honor of the Royal Republic Armed Forces. The commanders also had told the Republic soldiers to start preparing for withdraw from the island as soon as the ICONOY had enter their territory and were to retreat towards the coastline. The Supreme General Hamza had also gotten wind of this video and was furious at the soldiers and had sent a message to all the units on the island that any soldier found of doing this shameful act would have to face the Sultan and the Defense Minister personally to explain why the did this act which dishonored the Republic's reputation of having a high standard of morals along with their beliefs that were given to them by their prophet.

The Confederate forces that had previously been in hiding near the interior of the island began to advance cautiously out from the forests and highlands in the inside of the island. Joining up with the Onco Kolordu, these forces would capture patrols and other small groups of the various peacekeeping forces, as well as continuing to capture many members of the Yoloyese upper class. After capturing theses small squads, the Confederates declared that they were the sole keepers of law on Cyprus and that they were arrested for violating international borders. A simple message was sent to the Porcuian capital.

NICOSIA Public opinion for the Libyan, Whaladyan, Austrian and Porcuian Army had soured dramatically since the leakage of the video. As if fuelled by utter hatred, ordinary Yoloysese citizens would routinely throw stones at the soldiers or openly mock them. Support for Bash Cumali's troops grew intensity. Banners and posters of famed socialists and communists framed many of the war-scarred buildings of Nicosia. "Long Live Bash Cumali!" chanted a group of young children, whilst walking past a group of Libyan soldiers. To add salt to the wounds, the song which had played in the background of the video, was often played loudly on the radio - and the men and women who openly played the music, would dance in the same manner as the Alevi prostitutes, in a mocking manner. For some Yoloysese however, fear grew with the recent "rounding-up" of the Upper Class. It was rumoured that the Yoloysese Rehoba Party (similar to the Lebanese Kataeb Party), a very popular political party in Yoloysese politics that was mainly supported by the nationalists and Daina Worshippers, was trying to gain support from the socialists. The question on everybody's lips was still left unanswered. Is Yoloys able to control it's sovereignty whilst also under the influence of Chancellor Cumali's iron fist? |

Agios Prokopios Church, Nicosia Colonel Klein and a small party of SPEZGRU slowly advanced out from their positions and made their way towards the church. The Porcuians went about their business in a determined, but somewhat casual fashion. While the paratroopers moved about the premises of the church, they paid no attention to the advancing Austrians. A previous radio message by Colonel Klein had received a short, one-word reply to his request for a rendezvous: "Yes." Klein was able to spot Brigadier General Valerius Massalla easily - the Porcuian's blonde hair was not difficult to spot, even in the low light of the early morning hour. The Porcuian commander himself had known well in advance of the SPEZGRU's position, yet he also knew from communicating with his team leaders that the Austrian advance into Nicosia was nearly complete and that the rush, for all intents and purposes, was over. Still, while the Austrian had captured a vast majority of the city, several key pieces of infrastructure were in Porcuian hands, in addition to one of the Imperial residences. Without so much as a sideways glance, General Valerius Massalla spoke in a deep, reverberating voice at Colonel Klein and his men. "So glad you could join us!" Valerius Massalla was an imposing figure, a combination of a tall, well-built frame and a gentleman's facade. His large hands rested squarely on his hips and his helmet held in between his left arm and torso. Finally turning to meet his ICONOY colleague, the paratrooper commander addressed Klein once more. "No need to hide in the bushes, Commander...Legatus[1] Manius Valerius Massalla of the Airborne Forces of the Republic. Pleasure..." the Porcuian general said with a warm, soft grin while extending his hand. [1] - The general's rank is Brigadier General, but would simply be introduced (or would first introduce himself) as a "General". The term 'Legatus' is supposed to reflect this. ... Private Communiqué Melita shall be made available for a private conference between President Canae Ardea Gularis and Chancellor Bash Cumali. ... Public opinion in Porcu had swayed dramatically over the course of a week, during which Porcuian soldiers were filmed cavorting with local prostitutes and, separately, several teams of Porcuian peacekeepers were labeled as kidnapped after having disappeared. Disappointment gave way to anger and there grew a call to leave the Yoloyese in their tattered state and at the mercy of the Confederacy of Middle Eastern Socialist States. Cooler heads prevailed. Military spokesmen stated that those identified in the videos would face punishment, while Porcuian units would now also be taught of the local customs and culture of the Yoloyese. The President's press secretary herself provided an apology to the Yoloyese government and the people. Still, the Yoloyese were reminded of the volatile situation and reminded that their assistance and cooperation would be necessary if an improvement to the general humanitarian crisis was desired. However, the response to the kidnapping of small peacekeeping units was more harsh. Language regarding the legitimate use of force by Porcuian, Federation, Austrian, and Kasnyian peacekeepers made it clear that ICONOY could respond with force. Late one evening, outside of the city of Mammari, a reconnaissance unit of Porcuian soldiers was ambushed by Confederate forces. 10 Confederate soldiers and 2 Porcuians lost their lives, while another 6 Porcuians remained critically injured in the short firefight that ensued. Ariminae remained silent, but Porcuian commanders in Cyprus stated their intention to actively begin pursuing Confederate forces and communicated with their colleagues in the hopes that a unified ICONOY response was possible. |

Colonel Klein studied the Porcuian before meeting his outstretched hand. Where he was rather short and sported brown hair, Massalla was taller than average and had vibrant blonde hair. To match his imposing figure, the Porcuian also appeared have a quick wit about him. Klein and his men had been relatively secure in the notion that their positions were indeed hidden. Massalla's comment not only wounded his pride slightly, but diverted his attention to the fact that the paratroopers were possibly craftier than he had initially believed. Additionally, the colonel was pleased that his equivalent spoke German so eloquently. "Oberst Marc Klein of His Imperial Majesty's Reichswehr..," Klein responded confidently, meeting the Porcuian's hand with a firm grip. The two commanders shook hands as their men watched on anxiously. For all intents and purposes, the Republic and the Empire were not at all friends and, following recent events in their shared histories, one could make the compelling argument that they were enemies. This was not lost on the men of either side as they watched skeptically and studied each other from a distance. "Your reputation precedes you, General," Klein stated sincerely, removing his bandana and exposing his trimmed beard. "You're the first combat outfit we've come across that actually caught wind of our approach. " The Porcuian smiled, "It is an honor to have caught the famed SPEZGRU, Colonel. You and your men have earned yourselves quite the reputation among the locals and among the Whaladyans. Please, won't you and your officers join me and mine for some lunch?" "We'd be delighted," Klein replied, waving his men over. Klein and a small assortment of his officers followed their Porcuian guests into the abbey. Already waiting for them in a back room was a table outlined with the best food any army could offer - canned vegetables and various meats which earlier were surely some form of dried powder. The Austrians sat at the end opposite their hosts and waited patiently for them to begin. "So, what is it you wanted to discuss Colonel?" Massalla asked, stirring some vegetables. "Some general proceedings, if you don't mind," Klein responded, his hands folded on his lap. "The Reichswehr has secured the majority of the city and will very soon be funneling supplies in from our port in Mojyke. That being said, there are various pockets of Porcuian forces which have been watching over some of the city's most critical 'points of interest.' Please rest assured, General, that the Austrian army is more than capable of completing these tasks and would be more than willing to relieve your forces in due time. Essentially, I am requesting that Austrian forces be made allowed to travel freely and unabated through Porcuian held territory." ---- The shock from the recent video displaying Austrian troops, among others, gallivanting with Yoloyese prostitutes was nothing when compared to the Austrian response to the kidnappings of some of its peacekeepers. While a short and rather insignificant public statement was made to the Yoloyese public about the Empire's commitment to protecting their "culture and values", a full inquiry was made into the disappearance of the Archduke's soldiers. When the culprits turned out to be identified as Confederate soldiers (a fact further explained by a firefight between Turkish and Porcuian forces soon after) the Empire's response was firm and unflinching. Swiftly, and without warning, a token few aerial missile strikes were made in locations determined to be Confederate forward outposts. The casualty figures were largely unknown, but Austrian military planners believed that the message was transmitted. However, just in case, a terse, btu strongly worded communique was sent to the Confederacy of Middle East Socialist States.

Chancellor Bash Cumali's diplomatic jet touched the tarmac on Malta at almost noon exactly. The small island had recently come under Porcuian control, one of many Mediterranean island the Republic had occupied in the wake of the Roman and Venetian collapse. A warm breeze blew through the island and the sweet, yet salty, ocean air entered the Chancellor's nostrils. He took a moment to compose his thoughts before exiting the plane and walking to the airport with his escort. For once, Cumali followed Al-Judidi's precedence of being present at major diplomatic meetings. Cumali was no light weight on the diplomatic scene either, serving as a chief diplomat in the Premier Chairman's time. But his time had passed. Walking into the Porcuian embassy, he ignored all contact and commandeered a small meeting room. Although ornate, it held barely enough space for 5 people. This was good. Cumali wanted this to be personal and intimate when the time for a settlement came. He waited their patiently for the President to arrive. Edited by Margrave, Aug 19 2014, 08:03 PM.

"Within the capital?" Valerius Massalla asked without looking up at the Colonel. "By all means." The General washed down his vegetables with a full cup of water, which was almost instantly refilled by one of his lieutenants. In the background, the Austrians could see the maddening speed and efficiency at which the paratroopers worked - the buzz of radios and the clicks of various transmissions signaled that the Porcuians were still quite busy. "Colonel, I was hoping to request some assistance from Austrian engineers. You see, the airport outside Nicosia, to the east, is in bad shape. My lieutenant there informed me that the airport seems to have been abandoned for some time and may even have taken some damage during the course of the civil war and the subsequent entrance of the Whaladyians, the Libyans, and the Confederates into the conflict. "While Porcuian engineers are already working to repair and refit the airport for use by ICONOY and by H.E.A.R.T., I was hoping to have Austrian help in finishing the job faster." What was of importance to General Valerius Massalla was the success of ICONOY and ICONOY operations in Yoloys. Politics would always be politics, and indeed there may be time in the future to lock horns with those seated across from him, but the mission at present was what he currently cared about. ... Valletta, Malta The Maltese had enjoyed an economic renaissance following annexation by the Republic, subsequent to the Greco-Roman Empire's collapse. Whereas living standards had fell sharply in the last years of the Empire, they had rebounded and continued to rise as a result of monies being pumped into the island, as a part of the overseas province of Syracusae. Yes, the small island was a remarkable place when it was clean and well cared for - the mountains of tourists who flew and sailed to her shores would guarantee a prosperous future. The President had made trips to Melite before, but this was quite different and, truth be told, somewhat unexpected - at least the timing was. Embassy staff were extremely off-put by the Chancellor's behavior and demeanor, but yielded to him, as was appropriate. Nonetheless, the President herself was forwarded one or two words regarding Cumali as she entered the Porcuian consulate. Ardea Gularis was led to the small meeting room where Cumali sat and promptly shown in. Chancellor Cumali wore an expression halfway between smugness and cold determination. President Ardea Gularis bowed slightly and thanked the Chancellor for making the trip to Malta in such short notice. Snacks were brought quickly enough and water was set out before the two leaders. "Please, Mr. Chancellor," Ardea Gularis said while pouring water for both herself and her guest. "to what do I owe this meeting?" |

Hedeh screamed. Not a normal scream. The young boy screamed a blood-curdling scream. Being kept hostage by the sadistic socialist was slowly having an effect on Hedeh's mental stability. Luckily however, Hedeh was made of stronger material - he was becoming defiant in staying sane, for the sake of his dear family. The room in which Hedeh was forced to stay/sleep in was somewhat slightly uplifting. Inside the room, there was a large double bed, a wooden desk and chair, a corner lamp, a medium sized wooden cupboard in which clothing and personal items were kept and a small bookshelf. A windowless en-suite was also present. The only window in the room, was far too high and small for Hedeh to climb through. Outside the room, two guards stood outside - ready to enforce punishment upon the young boy if necessary. With all his might, Hedeh screamed again. Trying to avert someone's attention. However, it fell upon death ears. |

"We have much to discuss Bayan Gularis. I fear there is much bad blood between our nations at this point, and needlessly so. I would very much like to negotiate a settlement beneficial to both of us, as well as the people of Cyprus." The Chancellor said plainly. He slowly rubbed his goatee. "But first, a toast." He clinked his water glass to Ardea's. "To peace." He sipped some water. "Firstly, the issue of the Batiya annexation is still disputed by you and much of Europe. This is understandable, and we both have ideological reasons for being so hard headed with the issue. I think we can both agree on some sort of compromise. I think order has been restored in the area long enough that a referendum would be acceptable." "But let's not get to the brass tacks immediately. Tell me about yourself, President. Colonel Klein nodded in agreement and took a swig of his water before answering his host. "Of course, Herr General," He said, opening his satchel and removing a map. "However, only the Reichswehr can officially pledge the support of our Pioneer battalions. If you'll allow me some time, I'll send a message back to our command in Nicosia for approval." "While I can't imagine there would be any problem, should one arise, you can count on the expertise of my SPEZGRU technicians for the time being." The Porcuian nodded appreciatively and leaned back in his chair, relaxed. Klein glanced around the quiet abbey and noted with specifics the efficiency and speed of the paratroopers. Their military presence was small in comparison to the might of the Reichswehr, but they possessed an air of confidence and dependability which any Austrian commander would relish. At present moment, Klein was pleased to have such a professional force as an ally. The arrival of the Colonel's messenger had brought Nicosia's reply. Colonel Klein sighed and crumbled the document. "It would appear once again that politics has meddled with our efforts here," He said apprehensively. "It appears as though all our Pioneers are being redirected to Nicosia and Moyjke for some must needed repairs to the cities' infrastructure and the latter's port. The most I can offer you is 20 or so of my own personal technicians." |

OOC: Apologies on not getting to this sooner. IC: "Well then," Valerius Massalla replied, sitting back up in his seat, "your own personal technicians will be most welcome. Your effort and the commitment of your men is very much appreciated, Colonel." The elegantly built Porcuian stood and thanked his ICONOY colleague with a firm handshake and a curt bow. Operations in and around Nicosia were of primary importance to the Porcuians, as the centre of the nation desperately needed to return to some semblance of tranquility and stability. ... Valletta, Malta The Confederate Chancellor confused the Porcuian President, so much so that her response to his toast and his question were a few seconds delayed. Additionally, the salvo of questions directed at her made a simple, direct response difficult. That said, she had no desire to speak of her family. "I am pleased to hear that the Confederacy is open and willing to discuss a negotiated settlement, but that actually is irrelevant. The international community has formally condemned the actions of the Confederacy in Yoloys, stating unambiguously that its actions constituted a violation of Yoloys' sovereignty. As far as the international community is concerned there is nothing to be negotiated - Confederate forces must withdraw from Yoloys. "As far as the Confederate expansion into central Anatolia is concerned, the suggestion for a referendum is welcome, or rather would be welcome if not for the unsettling reports and disturbing evidence of death camps and mass graves within the occupied territory of Cilicia. Your government's statements suggesting that these camps and graves are a fiction are not reassuring." More than simply placing a flag on the field, President Ardea Gularis was interested in seeing just exactly what the Chancellor had in mind and how he would react. |

The public statement released by the Yoloyese Tsar was met with disbelief by Porcuian officials, military and civilian, both within and without the island of Cyprus. For the generals and peacekeepers operating in Yoloys the statement was seen as entirely void of any sense of reality - the suffering of a great many civilians continued and there was no way that the Confederacy of Middle East Socialist States would be able to markedly stem the pain that many felt, certainly not as quickly as ICONOY and H.E.A.R.T. For the diplomats operating in Toledo and in Ariminae the public call for the withdrawal of all foreign personnel was seen as a blow to the gut, their legs had been taken out from under them just when real, measurable gains were being made. Furthermore, many senior Porcuian officials questioned the timing of the statement. Why now? The Tsar and his government had essentially begged for international assistance in the days and weeks following the descent of the country into chaos and civil war, punctuated by the arrival of foreign occupiers - occupiers which were pressured to leave only through the collective efforts of the Presidium and the memberstates of ICON. Confusion set in and paralysis followed. In acknowledgement of the statement given by the Tsar, Porcuian advances both in the north and the south were halted. However, food and medical shipments provided by H.E.A.R.T. were still forwarded to towns and villages across the countryside. A reply from Ariminae did not take long. An official meeting was insisted upon by the Republic, and both Consuls of the Republic were approved by Parliament to go to Yoloys immediately in order to obtain clarification - actual meaning - behind the sudden declaration. Concurrently, the news of the statement did not take long to reach the ears of President Ardea Gularis, who was presently in a secret meeting with the Chancellor of the Confederacy. Ardea Gularis did not see Cumali's reaction to the news, as her attention was focused on her aide, but a smile was not entirely inconceivable. The Porcuian President turned toward the Chancellor with a deep and serious gaze. The Chancellor had heard much about this woman, including her numerous failures, but in that moment he understood why - how - she had been able to not only keep afloat in the cauldron of Porcuian politics but to be elected twice as President. Yes, Ardea Gularis could be formidable. She said nothing, simply glaring at Cumali. Eventually he decided to address the matter, there was no avoiding it now. As he began to speak he opened his arms disarmingly and sat comfortably back in his chair. |

Austrian ICONOY forces stationed on Cyprus received the Tsar's statement calling for their withdrawal as they were in the process of repairing damaged infrastructure, handing out food and water, and restoring law and order. For Austrian military leaders and civilian aid workers, the statement seemed as senseless as it was peculiar; why would the Tsar force out the only people capable of restoring Yoloys to its former glory? The consensus among high ranking officials in the Austrian Oberkommando was that the statement was certainly made because the Tsar was under some form of duress. Moreover, it was unlikely that the Confederates would fair much better as occupiers than the Whaladyans or Libyans had before them. No, the Austrians were of the opinion that only ICON, preferably through the Reichswehr, was capable of maintaining order and repairing the damaged state of Yoloys. Despite the fact that there were still several Whaladyan garrisons awaiting their chance to be relieved, the Reichswehr followed suit with the news of a general pause in the Porcuian advance and matched it with their own halt. The Luftwaffe, however, continued to airdrop supplies to their compatriots on the ground who then continued the daily tasks of distributing them to the population. The Oberkommando was still aware that the situation on Yoloys remained a campaign of "hearts and minds", and it was still ICONOY's duty to provide for the people. Neglecting to send a formal statement from Vienna, Archduke Karl II of Austria instead opted to call his head military attache on the island to orchestrate the Empire's next course of action. General Walter von Kassel leaned back in his chair and swirled a glass of Brandy as the Archduke spoke. "..I understand the urge to neglect the Tsar's declaration, Walter, however this is not advisable at this time," the Archduke stated slowly. "There's simply too much at stake now at home for us to cope with a major military confrontation on Yoloys; I'm sure I don't have to stress our petrol shortages to you?" "Damn Porcuian swine," von Kassel cursed before taking a sip of his drink. A short pause. "I remain skeptical that the Tsar's desires were expressed in his address, your Majesty." "As do I," Karl interjected. "There is obviously a level of coercion at play here on the part of the Confederacy.; however I have neither the time nor the desire to contact their Chancellor. This, my dear Walter, is where you will have to shine on my behalf. Likely, the Porcuians have already requested a meeting with the Tsar. I want you to do the same and join their delegation, if possible. Only then will we be able to properly discern whether or not the Tsar truly meant what he said." "Right away, your Majesty," von Kassel replied, already waving an aid over. "May Austria forever prosper!" he exclaimed before the Archduke left the call. Von Kassel sighed and turned to his aid, "Alright, do you have a pen ready?"

EJY, Yoloys Tsar Azil was still visibly shaken after delivering the national televised speech, which caused shockwave like effects across the Middle East. In his head, Azil truly believed that he had just ruined the lives of all his loyal subjects. What sort of weak monarch was he? Zamei's dead, Huzan is physically stranded in Libya, Ida and Lanya have been evacuated to mainland Europe, Rojye and her family have virtually disappeared in Renia and Hedeh's is being held hostage by the demon Chancellor Cumail. Hedeh The slight mention of the young Duke's name still causes Azil to tear up. What sort of father was he? All he could do, was to submit to the will of Cumail and let the Middle Eastern Confederacy turn the island nation into some sort of protectorate or holiday destination. As he sat in despair, the Tsar wished that he could save Hedeh and become a strong-willed leader at the same time. |

"Mrs. Gularis," Cumali began "or is it Ms? As long as we being honest here, I had no actual care for your family, I just had no idea how to address you." He wiped his nose with a gloved hand. "Anyway, as you now have by now realized, I hold all of the aces. And a jack, as it seems." Reaching into his overcoat, he pulled out a picture of Hedeh and handed it to the President. "Yoloys has submitted to Confederate rule. The treaty has already been written up and agreed to by the Yoloyese government. And it is a quite reasonable treaty, I assure you." He drank. "What is left out, however, is the role of Porcu in the Middle East. I know not of your ambitions, and frankly I do not care, but if Porcu rears its ugly Greek head in the region again I swear I will decapitate it with a Persian sword." He snapped his fingers as he said it. "Here, however, we can begin a much more amicable relationship between two nations dedicated to freedom and liberty of all people. If the Republic agrees not to interfere any further in the Middle East, I will allow you to investigate Anatolia for death camps or referenda or whichever you choose. I will release and pardon all Porcian and Austrian troops currently being imprison by Confederate authority. Yoloys will retain de jure sovereignty over a Cyprus under Confederate control. You can even make a few negative statements on our future actions if you want to save international face. And there will be future action." He walked to the window. "Madame President, I desire one thing above all else. The total emancipation of all people. Surely you can reason with that. Surely you agree that the Confederacy is a better force of good than many nations in the world. From the Austrian and German braggarts of Europe to the perfidious Al-Whaladyans or Saliki. I desire freedom, not only for myself, but for all people. You are the same, I would wager. And I am sorry that our nations got off on the wrong foot." OOC: Porcu, I know this is kind of a bum deal for you, but its the only way I can see Porcu staying out of the Middle Eastern RP, at least at the start or until Scythirus is attacked. |

President Ardea Gularis was stunned. Her hands gripping the arms of her chair tightly signaled to the Chancellor that his message had been clear. "Liberty and freedom? Liberty and freedom?!" Ardea Gularis replied with a sudden outburst that, while not unexpected, did startle Cumali with its intensity. "The Confederacy has annexed a sovereign and independent state through coercion and blackmail backed by the use of military force. Furthermore, it is now clear to me that the Confederacy carried out the planned murder of innocents in what are correctly described as death camps. The Republic in which I was born and raised and to which I now serve as President is nothing like the Confederacy." Gularis stood quickly, her eyes locked on the Confederate Chancellor who rested against the lone, large window of the room. "An international investigation will be put together to investigate the death camps and a free and fair referendum will be entirely managed by the international community. You should receive confirmation of my decision to withdraw from Cyprus from your own military staff within 72 hours, at the latest." The atmosphere immediately became oppressive and Cumali wisely reasoned that there was little purpose in continuing his stay. He had gotten what he had come for, albeit bluntly. "The Republic will destroy the Confederacy." were the last words Cumali heard as he was escorted out of the meeting room and out of the building. |

The last ship to leave the port of the Mojyke signalled the defeat of the coalition to the hands of the mighty Confederacy of Middle Eastern Socialist States. With that in mind, the rest of the world waited with sheer fear. As war was starting to brew over the horizon. Soon, the Middle East will be drawn into another fircer and more disastrous war which leads to the deaths of hundreds upon hundreds of innocent lives.

In the end the meeting between Yoloyese officials and the joint representatives of the Republic and of the Austrian Empire, speaking on behalf of their comrades within ICONOY, was absolutely worthless. Attempts to solicit a meaningful response from the Tsar's own representatives, let alone to convince them of reversing their decision, were futile. Despite their strained partnership, Porcuian and Austrian officials were temporarily united in their confusion of and disbelief in the sudden position taken by the Yoloyese Tsar. The island of Cyprus and those who inhabited it had been getting better, the situation presently stood at a point objectively, materially superior to when ICONOY forces had first landed on the island. Porcuian officials were afraid that all that had been done would be summarily undone. President Ardea Gularis, of course, spoke to no one about her trip to Malta and therefore was in the unenviable position of having to watch the situation unfold without the pleasant ignorance that masked the understanding of many of her colleagues. In the end the decision had already been made - the statement by the Tsar simply provided a convenient rationale for the sudden withdrawal of Porcuian forces from Cyprus. Despite her initial hesitation, President Ardea Gularis went ahead and personally reached out to the Austrian, Russian, Federation, and Kasnyian leadership and thanked them for their support of an international effort to store peace and stability to Yoloys. The effort had been cut short and it was likely that no flower would bloom, but the Porcuian President was thankful that, even momentarily, the international community was able to come together to advance a meaningful and worthwhile goal. And so it was, with the last transport ships finally out of Yoloyese territorial waters, that the Republic washed her hands of the mess that was Yoloys. |

The events which had transpired inside Yoloys had placed Austrian military and civilian officials in an uproar of shock. Upon spending countless hours of precious time lobbying ardently with their Porcuian counterparts against the ineptitude of the Tsar's remaining government, the Empire's leading organizers eventually surmised that the situation was helpless - Yoloys would be thrown into the dark chasm of communism. When economic analysts in Vienna focused on the Empire's expenditures in the ICONOY mission, they were rather quick to let the tiny, politically insignificant island go. Since the beginning the operation, Austria had mobilized over 60,000 personnel and several million reichsmarks for the joint military and humanitarian mission on Cyprus, and many back home in Vienna were beginning to wonder just how necessary saving international face was for the Archduke. After-all, Austria had entered into the ICONOY mission as a show of its "commitment" to protecting international peace and stability; however anyone could see that such a measure was more for the international press than the people of Yoloys. Indeed, even the Archduke himself was somewhat relieved at the abrupt conclusion of the whole affair. Whilst obviously lambasting the Tsar for his shortsightedness in public, the private sphere saw the Archduke in much higher spirits as a great deal his forces were no longer tied down in a distant far away land. Not surprisingly, many of the Austrian soldiers who departed Yoloys would land in recently conquered ports along the Croatian coast. Their mission in the Balkans would be a quite different one... ---- In Dayr-az-Zawr, the failure of ICONOY forces to properly halt a Confederate take over was met with harsh criticism as well as a sense of national pride. The Whaladyan National Army had been stretched thin, and indeed serious supplies had been dried up, yet the Emirate had made good on its promise to hold the Confederate's at bay. Many of the military brass back home in Al Whaladya were now confident that the fall of Yoloys to the CMESS was of a general failure of ICON to properly employ the measures needed to hold the Tsar in his place. Even as the malnourished, shaken, and ill-equipped soldiers of the Emirate returned home they were not greeted with the rest and relaxation they had been promised by the Emir's government. Instead, a quick and brutal operation by the GFID and soldiers loyal to the government tore through the barracks snatching up any soldier who had been affiliated with a traitorous or seditious unit. While some received a lengthy and painful fact-finding tribunal, many were simply rushed through a military show trial and executed somewhere out in the Syrian desert. The response among the ranks was not a universal one and rhetoric which characterized the brutal power struggle that exploded inside Yoloys soon began appearing everywhere soldiers gathered in secret. As suppression inside the military became more and more aggressive, many began to see the clamp-downs as a last ditch effort by a government rapidly loosing its control over its own agents of enforcement. Dissension among the enlisted ranks was not the only problem facing the beleaguered Whaladyan government. Massive government spending for the Yoloys invasion, rebuilding of recaptured Kurdish territory, and clean-up for the nuclear meltdown in Aleppo had left the national treasury almost completely dry. With the Emir's worsening health, crippling economic issues, and a military threatening to implode in on itself, many were beginning to question just how much longer the Emirate would stay afloat.. |
