Hey everybody, For a long time I have been too lazy or too poor to put some effort into seriously constructing a real gaming PC. However, with the holiday season coming around and more impressive games appearing on the market, my poor excuse for a gaming computer has run its course, at least in its current position. Therefore, i have decided to outfit my current system with some new parts because it is simply cheaper than buying something from alienware, and I still think my old rig has some reusable parts. I have scrounged about $550 all together to do this task, but my knowledge of upgrading and constructing computers is extremely limited. So, essentially, I need some help ^^ . Here is a link for my current desktop Also, here are its current specs with what i plan to upgrade them with (to the best of my knowledge) for quick reference: 1) Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5500 @ 2.8 ghz > At least an Intel i3 Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge or perhaps even an affordable Intel i5 (Any specific model suggestions would be awesome). 2) RAM: 4GB > 6GB or maybe 8GB (Again depends on price) 3) Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 210 2258 MB > Preferably an NVIDIA GTX650 2GB or higher or an AMD equivalent (Again, specific recommendations are welcome). As for motherboard, power supply, and any other components that may need upgrading, I am hopelessly lost. I would really appreciate any suggestions on what needs upgrading and whether or not these will fit in my current PC. Sorry for anything i didn't list, but i wasn't sure how to express the motherboard in particular. Thank you |

I'm not too update on current hardware, but a few things strike my mind: 1) You'll probably need a new motherboard if you want a Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge. 2) You may need a new power supply with the new graphics card, but maybe not - I'm not sure, but it is something to look into. 3) I would put a low priority on the RAM. While increasing from 4 to more can help, I don't think its a going to do enough to be worth your resources right now. |

Thanks for the clarification, RD. Do you (or anyone) happen to have any knowledge of how to determine whether or not a chosen motherboard will actually fit in my desktop without trial and error? |

If this can wait until after Christmas, I will have a very helpful wall o' text for you. Until then I'm a bit busy with work, holiday stuff, and the plague. EDIT: This post made me 1337. =) Edited by Abnar, Dec 22 2013, 08:50 PM.
