Trebizond, Middle Eastern Socialist States Confederacy 1830 hrs The capital city of Trebizond. A melting pot of identities, with a coastline of sapphire and many alleys packed with people as they bought goods along this major trade route between Europe and the middle east. It was a testament to the history of the lands around it. The great catholic churches from the days of Genesis, the military harbor built by the Dominion, and finally the embassy row and Maoist inspirted government buildings built by the Confederacy for which it was the seat of power. As the core of the CMESS, it had been expanding its prestige and power since the Dominion's fall. It had become a major power player in both Europe and in the Middle East. By rights, Trebizond's name was to become as glorious as Baghdad or Constantinople. As important as Stockholm and Berlin. Alas, sometimes history throws a curveball. And in this case, the curveball came in the form of a stealth warhead hurtling at the city at great speed in a combination of momentum and gravity. There was no detection. There was no warning. There was no respite. The warhead it an area between the city's coastal road and the commercial harbor. When it detonated, there was a flash of light, and then a tidal wave moving away from the coast. It had been a clear day, and so the mushroom cloud could be seen from almost anywhere within fifty miles of the city limits. It would take over an hour for the dust to clear, and more hours still for those in radiation gear to arrive to see that only flattened metal and concrete and ash were all that remained. Trebizond stood annihilated. |

Shocked at hearing the news that CMESS' capital had been destroyed by a nuclear warhead, the government of Scythirus was quick to assume and blame Porcu as the responsible party, as it saw it was the only nation with motive for the attack. Fury stronger than ever, Scythirus called for immediate war against Porcu, talks in Yozgat be damned!

The Parliament and People of Porcu condemn the nuclear strike against Trebizond in the strongest possible terms. The Republic adamantly denies any knowledge of or involvement in the attack; any force used against territory or personnel of the Republic of Porcu will be met in kind. Humanitarian assistance is immediately available and the Republic requests access be granted to Porcuian medical teams. |

Muhammad Al-Judidi woke and looked out over the city and harbor. His chauffeur drove his car to the capital building, where he sat at his desk as began the day's work. He looked up at one point, only to be blinded seconds before he, and indeed the whole of the capital, were vaporized. In Yozgat, negotiations were interrupted when Bash Cumali received a phone call informing him he was the most senior member of the Confederate government. Cumali stood stunned for a moment. He ordered the foreign delegations detained until further notice. Cumali adopted the title Chancellor, reserving Premier Chairmen for the deceased Al-Judidi. A provisional capital was to be set up in Kale Sahir. Edited by Margrave, Feb 8 2014, 11:06 PM.

The Republic of Salik strongly condemns this blatant crime against humanity, and will take every action to bring the perpetrators to justice. The Republic will immediately provide humanitarian aid as well HAZMAT/WMD response capabilities. Salik warships off the coast of Tripoli were place on high alert, and began to take strategic positions on the outskirts of Salik territorial waters. The reserve navy was mobilized, and numerous sorties were launched to conduct patrol missions. Meanwhile, several undercover reconnaissance teams were sent to Porcu held territory in Sicily. The Emirate of Al Whaladya matches the sentiments expressed by its neighbors and joins in the condemnation of all parties responsible for the dastardly assault upon Confederate sovereign territory. The Emirate pledges the full might of its foreign intelligence services in the apprehension of those responsible. Additionally, as a token of goodwill, the Emirate offers the CMESS a large shipment of utility and service vehicles, as well as accompanying equipment, to assist in the reconstruction and general maintenance following this heinous attack. Said services shall be offered free of charge. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Trans-Regional Response Task-Force condemns the actors responsible for the attack on the CMESS. The organization requests a meeting be held at the regional headquarters in Dayr-az-Zawr as soon as possible to discuss potential non-state actors who could be responsible for the attack. - Faruq Hussein, T.R.T Executive Board |

--------------------------------------------- Moscow, Russia... Though the Russian Empire had not really concerned itself with the CMESS, its expansion into Draxis territory and access to the Black Sea had changed opinions in the Imperial Court, and the emerging Turkish Power had become a common topic in various circles. The attack on the capital, while not caught before the explosion, was noticed by Russian spy satellites afterwards and world quickly rose through the ranks up to the Emperor himself. Fearful of what the attack meant, Ivan called a meeting of his general staff to see what his people knew and perhaps what the Russians could find out. After all, if Trebizond could be attacked without warning who was to saw Moscow or Saint Petersburg wasn't next? Posted Image Entering the secure briefing room, his staff was seated after Ivan himself entered and took his seat, Ivan opened the meeting bluntly by questioning his military and intelligence advisers on what they knew. "Well your majesty" said Konstantine Beria, director of the Okhranka, "our satellites picked up the explosion clearly and we quickly identified it as a nuclear attack before reports surfaced. Beyond that, our satellites did not pick up any aircraft or naval vessel in the area save for the Scythirian craft located off the coast and in the harbors of the CMESS and those Porcuian ships on patrol near the straits." "However, your Majesty, we have a theory" said Mikhail Lebedev, Chief of the General Staff. "Though we'll need more information to verify our suspicions of course. However, going on what little we have we do believe we've found parallels to attacks we've seen before." Director Lebedev then went on to explain to the Emperor the General Staff's theory. Though Ivan had heard stories, this particular thought had not crossed his mind but after hearing it laid out before him he could see why the General Staff was convinced by it. "Where could it have come from?" the Emperor asked finally. "We're still working on that but the area of operation is quite large" said the Director finally, "It could take a while though I assure you, your majesty, I have my best people on this." "Good" Ivan said resolutely, "We must be vigilant as I will not have such an attack on Russian soil....." Edited by NRE, Dec 7 2013, 11:53 PM.

The sudden rush of aid from across the region, while good-intentioned, may have caused more harm than good as the unorganized wave choked the streets and roads into the city. Many of the first response teams died from radiation positioning while sitting in their cars. The outskirts of the city were littered with burned and blinded victims, and cries of agony formed perilous melodies on the wind. The second wave of responders was more organized, and mass evacuation and treatment began. Trebizond, once the last vestige of Old Rome, once the greatest city of the Turks, now lies on ruins where the very air is poisonous. Meanwhile, Chancillor Cumali was ushered onto a plane to Van. Leaving Yozgat, the negotiations, and the foreign detainees behind. There he ordered a complete lockdown, only aid could enter the country, and no one could legally leave until the lockdown was lifted. Even the pipeline to Sinop was temperatily sealed. |

Sevastopol, Crimean Peninsula.... The disaster in Trebizond brought out the best in the Russian people. It was made clear through the local media that Russia would be sending aid, to be funneled through H.E.A.R.T, of which Russia was a founding member. Millions of Russians made donations after an impromptu telethon was held by the local H.E.A.R.T. affiliate, the telethon gaining almost a million Rubles by the end of the night. The money would be greatly needed as few really understood the gravity of the destruction suffered in the CMESS's capital. Those who were manning the H.E.A.R.T. fleet at Sevastopol, like many of the other personnel in the other fleets across thew world were stocking up on the radiation gear the organization had. Suits, medicines, and other supplies were filling up their cargo holds and their rooms were being prepared for the worst. When they were finally ready, they set sail for the city knowing that many of them would see things they'd never imagine seeing in all their lives. Posted Image Back in Moscow, everyone was talking about the international broadcast of the Transcontinental Contingent Group claiming the attack on Trebizond. The average Russian had never heard of the group before, only knowing what they could gather from the broadcast itself. Few even realized that Gassel was still alive, much less that he'd been freed from prison. There was certainly a new atmosphere fear and uncertainty that was beginning to grip the Empire, an atmosphere that would only grow as days went on after the attack. The Imperial Court itself remained quiet on the subject, releasing only brief generic messages on how helping the Turkish people was important and that the Imperial Government was dedicated to the people's safety. Deep inside the Kremlin, the Emperor and his staff discussed their options in light of this new information. The Okhranka had their suspicions that in fact the Transcontinental Contingent Group was to blame though, in light of recent events in Al-Whaladya they were also considering other groups. However, knowing it was the TCG they were now almost 100% positive the attack came from a now active ZEMEI Massive Gauss-Type Electromagnetic Ballistic Driver System. Believing this was now the case, they put their spy satellites into full alert and would, for the next several days, be combing through ever photo possible to find the gun's location. In truth though, it was a needle in a haystack search even given the gun's limited range there was still a lot of ground to cover and only a month to do it in. OOC- Gonna need more cities to target BTW. Anyone else up for a nuking? IC- As relief efforts started to gain momentum, the TCG saw a new opportunity. To that end, it activated its cell in the CMESS's disputed regions...to begin a harassment campaign against the relief workers approaching what was once Trebizond. --------------- Finally, after a week, a Colognian-flagged hospital ship and a Kasnyian supply ship filled with humanitarian goods arrived at the CMESS's port in the Mediterranean, in the southern most sector of their disputed regions. |

The first victims of the newly activated cell was a vanguard coming from Antakya, the CMESS's sole port to the Mediterranean. They had waited for the convoy to get some twenty miles clear of the city before they had struck. By the end, there were only burning vehicles and some bodies. The supplies had been stolen, and some half of the people had been seized as hostages. ----- A few hours after the attack, Kasnyia's ambassador to the CMESS informed the new leader of the government of the attack and requested protection of all aid convoys to Trebizond. |

The God-Emperor steepled his fingers as he listened to the report that this Transcontinental Contingent had taken credit for the nuclear strike against Trebizond. Narrowing his eyes, he realized that he had moved too quick in blaming Porcu, but at the time it had seemed fully plausible. Still the congruency between the matters continued to trouble him. If these were really Dominionists, why had they struck against Scythirus' friends? No, these "Dominionists" were likely mere babes during its initial formation and had no understanding of the cause and reduced themselves to dishonorable terrorism. If he could have his war and crush the European state of Porcu, he would show this Transcontinental Contingent what the Dominion was really about. Gassel failed, a mere mortal with all the faults of mortal men, he thought, never let a mortal do a job better suited for a God. After all, that was the reason he refused to have a seat on Gassel's pathetic council and let Vizx Hikaal sit in his stead. He promptly interrupted his intelligence minister in mid-sentence. "How difficult would it be to find 'evidence' that Porcu funded this Contingent as proxies to attack the CMESS?" The minister blinked and then smiled at his God-Emperor's sly thinking. "Oh, why, that wouldn't be difficult at all...." Edited by Comrade Queen, Dec 14 2013, 04:50 PM.

There hadn't been much a response by the CMESS military to the attacks as of yet, allowing more brazen assaults, including suicide bombings, against convoys and supplies from all over the region. It would be only a matter of time before someone decided to strike back. The South African looked forward to when they did. |

With the immediate confusion passed, Cumali ordered all Dominigasques detained and moved to detention camps for the time being. The Confederate military tightened security all over the country. Martial Law was declared nationwide. In Van, the emergency capital was being made into a fortress. It was decided the capital be moved to Van permanently. Any protests to Cumali's new policies were gasses and nonlethal means used to disperse crowds. |

OOC- Not all TCG are Dominigasque. IC- Two weeks later. The crackdown that had occured on Dominigasque people throughout Anatolia only enraged the local cells. A few of their own had been picked up of course...but more often than not, innocents had been the ones put in the internment camps. When they reported this to the South African though, he was pleased. He'd hoped to make this a sort of rallying cry in the Dominion's favor if possible. Bombings and kidnappings were ordered increased. |

Today large scale demonstrations by mostly middle-class city dwellers in Riga mobilized to protest the memory of Gassel and demand that the Baltic State initiate its own nuclear weapons program. Unbeknownst to the public, the Baltic State was already in possession of nuclear weapons. The government itself was planning several nuclear tests in secret underground sites in Africa and Australia. |

____________________________________________________________________ The Russians continued to the scourer the globe with their spy satellites, attempting to find the source of the nuclear attack. Though they found traces and clues, nothing was concrete enough to pinpoint towards a location. There was an urgency within the agencies working towards finding the weapon. After all, none of them wanted Russia to be next, none of them was willing to allow Russia to be next. |

Assassinations and ambushes continued unabated in the disputed western provinces of the CMESS, giving as much delay to medical and other aid works as possible. For some reason, there had been very little response from any local law enforcement, which made the TCG suspicious...but also opportunistic. |

OOC- Planting crumbs. IC- The Anatolian guerilla campaign had continued in earnest since the nuclear strike, but reception had been muted. Partly because they couldn't do worse than the current chaos caused by nukes, but also partly because no one knew who to blame. The Dominion had passed into history decades ago, yet the TCG had someone supporting them. Local anti-terror units were savvy enough to know that the quickest way to defeat the TCG was to strangle it. The South African had known this too. He had been careful to makesure none of his men knew who was actually funding them. He also made sure to give them false hints as to who was, alongside cooked evidence. However, that had merely been a precautionary task....til now. The Arrakan declaration had given the South African an idea. Not only did he intend to lead credence to the idea, but he intended to add to it...and his precautionary measures would be key. He made a call. --------------- Arsenius Laren was a senior manager at the Semitistani branch of the Bank of Porcu. He was fairly well to do, like most in his kind of position. He didn't boast about it however. Not with his history. And he was too old to start a new life at 70. Once upon a time, when he was a far younger (and foolish) man, he had served the Porcuian Finance Ministry back when his nation was allied to Gassel's Dominion. In his capacity as a junior banker, he had handled many transactions between Porcu and the Dominion. But he had quickly washed his hands of them as quickly as Stockholm had when they made their final break. Alas, he was guilty by association. A stain, however benign, on Porcu's history that his people tried to forget and ignore in order to take their place as a major player of the post-Dominion world. And even if they didn't feel he was guilty, Laren often did. Not just to his own people but even to the Dominigasques, left without a friend or homeland. He felt sorry for betraying them, even if he felt it morally necessary. And for that, he cursed himself. He and people like him were considered trash by both sides. It was only through keeping his head down and his profits up that he got as far as he did within the Bank of Porcu. Suddenly his phone rang. "This is Mr. Laren," he replied tersely. These calls were usually bureaucratic in nature, and he usually wanted to get them over with as fast as possible. "This is Gregor Sobrakhov," said the voice on the other end in an educated English accent. Laren froze. Sobrakkhov was one of the bank's biggest clients at the Semitistan branch. He was some sort of transport tycoon, an Eleytherian transplant residing in England who made the news a couple of years ago when he sold his business to FIAT of Porcu. The windfall of that deal, one of the largest fortunes in the world, was then put in an account in this bank. So when he called, one tended to take notice. "Mr. Sobrakhov, I wasn't expecting you sir," Laren answered truthfully, "What may I do for you today?" "I'm starting several new ventures, so I'll be needing to make some withdrawals," he answered. "Where to, sir?" Laren couldn't say he hadn't expected this eventually. That much money doesn't stay in a bank for long. "Menhadien Florida and Transcaucasia. The rest will stay here. I've sent details on the transaction from my Stockholm office via courier for security purposes." "Very good, sir. May I ask what new ventures you are getting into?" "Hostile takeovers," Sobrakhov replied with a laugh. They then said their goodbyes and the call was over. For some reason, Laren couldn't shake the idea that he hadn't been kidding on that last one.... ------------------- Van, CMESS 5:35 pm Ulrich al-Fulani and Mikhail La Rue were ready. They had trained their bodies and minds for months, just like the others, to help the TCG reestablish the New Order in Anatolia. Indeed, for Ulrich, he hoped the campaign would help build a new Dominion for Dominigasques like himself and Mikhail could live in peace. For Mikhail, he didn't care. About either the Dominion or the New Order. He'd never live to see it anyway so he thought it pointless to speculate. He just wanted revenge for his people. They were ready. Their commander, Dalaam, had told them so. And so they now prepped and positioned themselves to conduct the next string of suicide assult attacks, this time on the city of Van. What they didn't know was that Dalaam had just been on a call with the South African. He was told to quietly fill their packs with a few Porcuian banknotes...not much, just some spending money. Dalaam knew not to question why. He was also told to put in an ATM recipt with it. They were then sent off on their way to conduct yet another guerilla attack on the CMESS.
