Metehan Ilkay Çetinkaya pulled back gently on the reins, bringing his Akhal-Teke mare to a stop at the top of a small rise and surveyed the large, Central Anatolian valley below. He adjusted the sling of his AK-47, letting it hang in a more comfortable position across the coarse goat hair cloak on his back, before nodding silently to himself. He tugged again at the mare’s reins, turning it to face the large nomadic band he led.

“We have found the place from whence the power of our people will be reestablished. On this hill, we will erect a palace fit for the divine representative of the ascendant Turkic peoples, and in the valley below, we will construct our capital city,” he proclaimed loudly to the waiting mass of nomads looking to him for guidance. “Tonight we will camp here. After evening prayers we will have a feast to celebrate our arrival at this hallowed place, and tomorrow we will begin work on more permanent accommodations.”

Metehan tapped his mare with his heels, guiding it toward the center of the the large hill, where he dismounted, hobbled his horse, and began to set up his tent. The familiar motions required almost no thought, and while he erected the tent, his mind wandered to the events which had led him and his people to this valley.

The collapse of government authority in Central Anatolia had not been particularly kind to the region’s inhabitants. Crime had run rampant and itinerant bands of brigands plundered the countryside and many of the smaller cities, forcing those that survived their depredations to become refugees. Many of those who fled in this manner were forced to throw themselves upon the mercy of one of the despots who had seized control of the larger cities. More often than not, these despots were little more than merciless thugs, and many of the refugees were used for slave labor.

Metehan had fled Ankara in the days after it was seized by Muhammet Polat, a prominent underworld kingpin. His wife and young son, however, had not been so lucky. They had been in a crowded marketplace when Polat’s violent takeover had began and had never returned home. Hundreds had been caught in the crossfire of a firefight between Polat’s enforcers and those of his rivals. When the dust had settled, Polat ordered all the bodies collected, dumped into a mass grave in a nearby park, and burned.

Determined to see Central Anatolia united as a homeland for the Turkic people once more, instead of divided amongst warring despotates, Metehan began to gather refugees fleeing the destruction in the countryside as well as any livestock and weapons he could find. For several years, Metehan’s band had lived in the same way as their forefathers, moving their livestock from pasture to pasture with the seasons

Finally, however, they had discovered a place in which they could put down roots. Soon, he hoped, his people would be able to begin taking steps to make his dream of a united Turkic state a reality, but for now they had to get established. The sun was setting though, and work on the next phase of his vision for his people would have to wait for the morning.

An old man’s voice rose over the din of the camp, calling the milling masses to prayer. Metehan unstrapped his prayer rug from the side of his mare and laid it out on a patch of grass next to the fire. His lieutenants gathered around him, standing on their own prayer rugs. Metehan Ilkay Çetinkaya bowed in prayer before his God, who had delivered his people to this place and offered them the promise of a new start.

The Republic of Salik would like to formally congratulate Metehan Ilkay Çetinkaya on his rise to power. Salik pledges support for the reunification of Central Anatolia, and will gladly provide any assistance if necessary. Additionally, we urge Metehan to join the New Muslim Brotherhood. The international Islamic community must remain unified in its mission, or face annihilation from our enemies.

The İç Anadolu Padişahlık is in agreement that the unity of the international Islamic community is of primary importance, however Metehan Çetinkaya has expressed concerns on the state of the Caliphate, particularly the claims of multiple nations on the title of Caliph. The Padişahlık would be be interested in clarifying the New Muslim Brotherhood's position on the issue of the Caliphate vis-a-vis the Caliphate of Paradise and the Khilafate Sulemania.
