"No, no I don't. But I have a map." Glrch pulls out his map and points to a spot. "This is it, right?" |

"Sure is, but that's a funny-looking map you've got there. The proportions are off. Anyway, Grudok's Family Jewels used to be located right across the street from the guard station, but I don't make it down to the west end of town very often these days, so I couldn't say for sure if he's still in business. Good luck." |

Glrch thanked the dwarf and headed back to the bridge, since he had to get to the other side of town to find the guard house and the Family Jewels shop. He needed to see the worth of his ring. |

As the gnome began crossing the bridge to the west side of town, he heard a roaring sound from high above, causing him to look up. There, in the sky, were three Draconids, flying in a v-formation, heading northeast. They seemed to be having some sort of debate as they flew, and though Glrch could not understand the meanings of their strange vocalizations, it was clear that one was becoming increasingly agitated. Glrch stood watching as the dragons passed by overhead. Wyfalls was obviously not their intended destination and they seemed to be heading towards the mountains far to the north and east. Just before they faded to mere specks in the distance, one of the three appeared to break off from the others and swoop down out of the gnome's view. This phenomenon having passed, the gnome continued over the bridge and into the west side of town. The sun was high in the sky and the streets were fairly busy. Many dwarves, along with a few humans and elves, were going about their business. It was a long walk to the western end of town, especially for Glrch's stubby legs, and with the heat of the midday sun combined with the dehydrating effects of the alcohol he had earlier consumed, the gnome was becoming exhausted. He stopped for a moment to catch his breath and observe his surroundings. There were two obvious paths to the guard station, as far as Glrch could tell. To the left, the wide road curved through the southwestern part of town, and the clusters of buildings were slightly shorter and fatter. To the right, the road was a little narrower and seemed to zigzag through taller, more-closely-spaced stone buildings. |

"Hmm," thought Glrch. "I don't like those narrow looking streets, and crowds bother me. I think I'll take the route on the left." He started laboring off in that direction, but if he saw a tavern, he was sure to stop for a rest. |

Fenris turned back to the blacksmith. "Best I keep this axe for now. I might be able to put your handiwork to good use. Would you happen to know of a place we could bathe and eat? |

The blacksmith shrugged and replied, "Sure. Just next door is the Quenching. They've got a few different kinds of baths, for paying customers. Just across the river is the Hollow Hill Inn & Tavern; they're pretty much always open and there's no better place to eat, as far as I'm concerned. But if you're low on coin and don't want to pay for the whole sit-down restaurant experience, the Butcher is just up the road and he's usually open until sundown." ~~~ Glrch made his way west and north until he came within sight of what appeared to be the Guard Station. It was a fortress-like stone structure with a watchtower that overlooked the town, and a few crossbow-wielding dwarves were up on the roof looking bored. The surrounding buildings were in various states of disrepair, and the boarded-over windows and doors suggested that they were abandoned. Across the street was indeed a shop labeled "Grudok's Family Jewels," but it was similarly boarded-up and appeared to be out of business. A few buildings down, however, was an establishment called "King's Cup," and the drunks loitering out front suggested that it was a bar. |

Glrch tried the door on the Jeweler's shop, and knocked loudly, just in case someone was inside. If no one answered, he'd head into the King's Cup and have a drink, sit down, and see what he could find out. |

There was no answer from the boarded-up jeweler's shop, and so Glrch headed to the King's Cup, stepping over an unconscious dwarf on the way in. Inside, it was dimly lit, and smelled like a cross between a locker room and the morning after a keg party. As Glrch's eyes adjusted, he noticed that he was the only non-dwarf in the place, and every single dwarf had turned to give him a menacing glare. Among the angry faces, he also recognized more than one of the guards with whom he had already interacted twice before; once when they burst in on them in the morning, and again when they had cornered them just outside the mine. Both of those times they had been thwarted, but this time, a burly dwarf casually stepped behind the little gnome and blocked his exit. Glrch gulped. ~~~ Fenris picked up his battle-axe from the counter and slung it over his shoulder, then headed next door to the Quenching. Inside, it was well-lit from high, colorful, stained-glass windows, and the humid air smelled faintly of lavender and soap. The white marble walls and pillars were decorated with flowering vines and nude statuettes. The attendant at the desk was a noticeably female dwarf whose face was clean-shaven and coated with tasteful makeup, and whose busty chest was pushed up in a pleasing manner. She smiled at the barbarian and asked sweetly, "How may I help you, sir?" ~~~ Back in the Blacksmith shop, Padrielor was left considering the smith's offer of 110 gold pieces for his Ebon Metal helmet. The smith just waited patiently, his scarred face serenely expressionless. |

Glrch did NOT like his situation. He slowly turned around to face the ugly dwarf, looked him straight in the eye, and said, "Well, if it isn't one of my little friends from earlier! Ya look uglier in the light of day but you are still pretty ugly here in this dark place. What say we let bygones be bygones and I buy ye an ale. That way, your overlord won't be upset with you interfering with one of his invited guests!" Glrch was poised to place a well aimed boot in the dwarf's groin if he didn't accept his offer. |

The dwarf stood his ground and stared down at Glrch, then said, "I've half a mind to slit your throat, gnome, but Mister Stonebelly seems to want you alive... for now." While he spoke, four other dwarves had approached and slowly surrounded Glrch. On some unseen cue, they grabbed the gnome from behind and held his arms and legs, completely immobilizing him. The dwarf blocking the door continued his hateful spiel, "Now see here, you little turd, Mister Stonebelly ain't around right now, and what he don't know won't hurt him..." And with that, the dwarf delivered a hard punch right to Glrch's stomach, knocking the wind from him. "But it will hurt you." He punched him again in the same spot, harder this time, and the air left Glrch's lungs a second time. Then they opened the door and unceremoniously heaved him into the street where he landed painfully on the cobblestones. "And don't come back, or it'll hurt you a lot worse." The door slammed and Glrch was left dazed and sprawled out on the street next to the unconscious dwarf he had stepped over earlier. |

Glrch sat for a while on the cobblestones debating if he should go back in and teach that brute a lesson, then, he thought better of it. Slowly getting up, he stared at the unconscious dwarf on the ground next to him, and decided to do a quick search of his pockets. |

Glrch found a Flask in the passed out dwarf's pocket and quickly opened it and tipped it over his mouth for a drink. Much to the gnome's disappointment, not even a single drop fell out. He searched the rest of the dwarf's pockets and came up with 1 Copper Piece for his trouble. |

Glrch finally figured the west side of town was a waste, and backtracked his steps so he could find the main path and head off back toward the inn. This time, if he passed a shop that looked like it might buy anything, he'd take in the ring and see what it was worth, and if he passed a bar that didn't look like a death trap, he'd get himself some ale. He was getting thirsty. |

A hulking figure covered in tattered leather, Fenris was the last person to fit in such a fine establishment. The Quenching appeared to be a place of a higher class than the barbarian could ever strive to be. The marble walls and clean patrons were a stark contrast the crude nature Fenris emitted. The other customers stopped and stared at this strange character that had entered the bathhouse. Fenris sneered down at the busty dwarf who had just spoken. Of all the races he had encountered, dwarvish women were amongst the least appealing to him. A bath however was the first thing on his mind. The general stench of nature seldom bothered Fenris, but that awful gas had left a putrid aroma that was almost intolerable. A bath at this point was necessary, though any other services would be welcomed. "How much for a bath?" Fenris asked hoarsely. Edited by meh, Dec 29 2013, 02:52 PM.

The lady dwarf behind the marble counter managed to look somewhat surprised, and then said, with a straight face, "10 Gold Pieces will buy you a half-hour cleansing bath in hot water with your choice of our deluxe soaps, followed by a cool rinse under our private waterfall, and finally an hour-long soak in hot, pure, clean, holy water, freshly blessed by a priestess. And for only 20 more Gold Pieces, you may choose one from among our divine selection of priestesses to join you during your bathing experience." ~~~ Meanwhile, Glrch made his way back towards the great stone bridge, huffing and puffing the whole way. He was sweaty, exhausted, and his whole midsection throbbed intensely, causing him to double over in pain more than once during the long walk. After stopping to puke his lunch into the gutter, the gnome looked up and noticed some kind of establishment named, The Quenching. His immediate assumption was that it was a bar, and so Glrch opened the door and stepped into the white marble lobby. The pleasant scent of lavender hit his nostrils first, and the erotic statuettes caught his eye, but then suddenly he could smell deepwurm gas, and he immediately threw up again into a nearby potted plant. The source of the stench was, in fact, Fenris the barbarian, who turned around at the sound of vomiting. The two adventurers' eyes met. |

Fenris laughed when he saw the sorry state of the gnome. "Got a bit roughed up I guess? Its a shame you ran off so early." He turned back to the dwarf, grunted, and tossed her 10 gold pieces. Fenris was not in need of pamering, nor did he like spending much on luxury. In spite of this gas though, it was necessary. The women normally would have been a nice addition, but 30 gold pieces for a dwarf was the last thing on his mind. |

Glrch glared at Fenris, but said nothing. Instead, he approached the dwarf behind the counter and asked, "Do you have anything to drink? Also, I would be grateful for a place to rest." |

The lady dwarf behind the counter gestured Fenris to a side door, framed in marble columns and statuettes, and then turned her attention to Glrch. "Yes, sir, we offer, for a mere 10 gold pieces, a three-stage bath wherein you may drink fresh, pure water to your throat's content." She repeated her spiel about the different stages of the bath and the extra 20 gold you could pay for priestess accompaniment. "No better rest nor relaxation may be found than in one of our premium baths," she said, "but feel free to have a seat in our waiting area for now, if you would like." and gestured to a marble bench framed by potted plants and built into the wall to Glrch's right. ~~~ Fenris, reeking of wurm gas, passed through a hallway and then stepped down into a room with a pool submerged in the center. Steam was rising off the water, and a few different containers of soap lined the edge of the pool. A beautiful female human, (or perhaps half-elf, her light, wavy hair obscured the top of her ears, making it difficult to tell,) was waiting off to the side with a towel. "Welcome to the Quenching experience, good sir. You will find that today we have three complementary soaps available: Rosemary, Lavender, and Lemon. When you are finished with your first bath, please proceed through this door and enjoy the waterfall room. The priestess there will answer any questions you may have." At this, she left the towel on a marble bench and headed for yet another door off to the side of the room. |

Glrch took a seat. He needed to rest before passing out 30 gold pieces (yes, a personal priestess sounded like a really good idea). He also wanted to give the barbarian a good head start; if he met him inside, it might not be pretty. Soon, he was feeling antsy, so he approached the woman dwarf behind the counter and slapped down 30 gold coins. "Let's go for the works", he said. |

Fenris grumbled to himself as he watched the elf-human walk away. "They never mentioned they had normal humans in this town." He quickly undressed, throwing the clothes and armor in a pile next to the steaming pool. He opted to jump straight into the steam water, letting the water slop against the outer walls of the room. Fenris sat there for a number of moments, allowing the heat to soothe his aching muscles. After recovering, he swam back to the soaps on the edge of the pool. All three were foreign to Fenris, so he grabbed one at random and lathered it on excessively. Weeks of dirt came off in the soapy water, turning it a soft brown. The brown only became harsher and Fenris grabbed his clothes and armor, doing his best to wash out all the gas he could. Finishing with the clothes, he left the pile to dry on the bench, and proceeded naked into the next room. |

Fenris stepped through the ornate marble doorway into a room quite similar to the first. The main difference was the column of water pouring out of an aqueduct in the ceiling and splashing into the middle of the pool. The beautiful priestess from before was nowhere to be seen, but a fresh set of towels lay folded on a marble bench beside the pool. At about the same time, in the same building, Glrch entered a different door and came into an identical room to the one Fenris had just left. A dwarven lady dressed in a modest outfit reminiscent of a nun's habit introduced herself as a priestess and pointed out the selection of soaps laid out at the edge of the steaming pool. She then began chanting something unintelligible but vaguely religious-sounding in a low murmur. |

OOC: Ha, only a year later! IC: Satisfied with his cleanliness, Fenris exited the bath house, set on getting as much food and drink into himself as possible. From the recommendation set down by the blacksmith, he took the path leading to the Hollow Hill Inn & Tavern. |

OOC: What!? I thought it'd only been a couple days... Woah, I must have hit a time warp. :P Thanks for your patience and willingness to jump back in. IC: Fenris made his way east across the great stone bridge with a spring in his step, still feeling a little high from his bath. What was in that holy water, anyway? Before long, the barbarian had arrived out front of the Hollow Hill Inn. A mule was grazing solemnly atop its sod roof. A brightly-dressed hobbit was sitting out on the front step and twanging away on some sort of folksy instrument with four strings. As he played, the hobbit sang a little ditty: O I've traveled far and I've traveled wide but I still ain't found my flowerin' bride With hair of golden and eyes like sun o how I long to be her one So across those misty mountains I'll go I'll sail that frozen sea For tomorrow holds my love so true in her sweet arms' where you'll find me In her sweet arms' where you'll find me |
