Six major newspapers in German Livonia encompass the broad spectrum of political thought. Media censorship is practiced by the War Council by the granting and revoking of publishing licenses. Extrajudicial censorship occurs when government or private parties with government assent use bullying and intimidation tactics against certain media outlets. During times of war, the War Council routinely seizes control of all media sources and operate them as de facto propaganda wings. Livlandische Amsblatter: state-run evening newspaper serving as a gazette of government activities and also espousing pro-War Council positions in its editorial pages. Herzoglichen Standarte: a popular newspaper owned by the Duke of Beckendorff with an extensive society section and noted art and media criticism. Staunchly conservative, pro-War Council editorial pages. Unternehmen: Business-oriented newspaper with a mildly internationalist editorial staff. Zentrum Almanach: Weekly journal of the Catholic minority, focusing largely on Catholic issues and social justice. Staffers include both Genesians and Colognians. Zeiten der Erneuerung: A German Nationalist Third Way publication. Arbeiters Aktuellen: Internationalist socialist newspaper operating out of Riga. |
