I turned 24 yesterday. No harm, no foul on any of your parts. I have my birthday hidden from notification on the forum. But it's just... other than my friend you all know on here, Aelius, none of my friends said Happy Birthday to me. My brother said it. My mum said it. My uncle and grandma said it. Mum was able to make things pretty good yesterday. She made pancakes for breakfast; steak, mashed potatoes, and corn-on-the-cob for dinner; and Mississippi mud pie for my birthday cake. My grandma gave me a sweet card and those two really good Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey, Jr. in them. My dad got me... Resume Maker Professional Version 17 Deluxe. *facepalm* Seriously? I'm sick. I'm so sick the only people I can relate to with my fatigue problems are people way older than me. I'm not getting a job anytime soon, much less a job that is so important it will require resume software to make a fantastic resume to try to get it. I do have only a year's worth of work left for completing my degree, but I'm unsure when I'll be well enough to continue school. Mum and dad have both been talking about money problems and how money is tight all month. It's why we didn't eat out. But... I looked up the cost on that thing... It's $30. He paid good money for something I'm not going to have a use for for at least a year, and that maybe I'll never even use. And honestly, I certainly don't need software to prepare a resume. But really? He couldn't have bought something that would have been fun for me? I would have appreciated even just a $5 or $10 game on Steam. I could care less about cost, but the fact is he basically wasted money to make some passive aggressive bullshit point to me on my birthday of all days, and that's just fucked up. You know, this isn't even close to the worst thing he's done, but it's up there in ridiculousness, and it really shows just how much of a dick he still is. I seriously hate my dad. Honestly, given that, I'm not even mad at my friends that didn't say happy birthday. They all have lives they're busy with. We all forget things. I certainly wouldn't hold a grudge against someone for forgetting my birthday. But my dad... yeah, I'm getting so sick of this that I'm probably going to end up joining the military to get away from it. Yes, that is a bad idea with me being sick and just in general, but with my college debts coming out of the woodwork, and me slowly getting angrier while I live here, and my father's unwillingness to support me in my education even though he will in a short time have several times the means to do so... I just don't see much other choice. There comes a time in life where sometimes you are forced to choose between bad or worse. Time is always moving forward, and you have to go somewhere. |

Well, for what it is worth, Happy Birthday! It does sound like you need to get away from your father (can you take the software back and exchange it?) but joining the military? That's like running off to the circus, in my opinion - you don't join the military to run away from life. Get your degree and move to North Dakota, or somewhere else with a booming job market - your work does not have to make an impact immediately, make some money, pay off debts, get away from home and on your own, build up a nest egg and then follow your dreams! Rushing now to just run away from a home life you cannot tolerate will sink you into an even deeper hole. Hang in there my friend - get yourself healthy, get your strength back and don't make any hasty decisions you will regret later. Just my 2 cents. |

Just keep in mind joining the military is a life changing decision. Heavens forbid, it could end up killing you. It is probably easier said than done, but patience is one hell of a virtue and I have learned a hard way about that lesson. :P I myself am due to graduate from my philosophy and journalism degree this summer. I am wondering if I made the right choice in my subject. I do love it, but will I find something that will pay the bills? Ah well, I just need to take it one day at a time and work hard. And the best of luck to you, of course. Just focus on what you need to do here and now, take one day at a time and tell yourself that you will succeed until you convince yourself. :D |

This ^ I came to my wits. Joining the military right now would be pretty stupid of me. I might still join as an officer, but that all depends. Anyways, first step is dealing with my health. Then dealing with my Greek. :p Then dealing with the rest of my languages to finish up my degree. Then and only then should I move on to something else. That said, I have to pay for it all somehow. So either more loans or a job. But I can't really deal with that until my isn't in an issue. Anyways, thanks everyone. I appreciate it. |
