OCC: Hello fellow Middle Easterners I just wanted to talk a bit about the Military sizes I've been seeing. While I feel the 5 supplies for the 1 soldier makes sense I also feel like military sizes should be within their nation's budget; namely by using the economy calculator to see how much their nation spends on defense. To determine how much certain things costs we could make a rough chart. Example based off of the way I made up Dahkeid's military: Pricing varies based off of unit; research was done in making up this chart: GROUND 1 Soldier (U.S. G.I. example used) = $60,000 - This includes rations, survival gear, uniforms, weapons, bullet-proof vest etc.. 1 Pilot (Estimated; not factual) = $50,000 - This includes uniforms, sidearm, survival gear, parachute etc.. 1 Tank (T-90 example used) = $4,200,000 1 APC (BTR-90 example used) = $3,900,000 1 IFV (Bradley Fighting Vehicle example used) = $3,100,000 1 Hummer (Humvee example used = $70,000 standard, $140,000 armored excluding armaments in both examples 1 Artillery Piece (M198 Howitzer example used) = $2,000,000 1 Armored Truck (MRAP Cougar example used) = $614,000 - price includes onboard UAV interface 1 Mobile SAM (MIM-72 Chaparral example used) = $1,500,000 AIR 1 ATA Fighter (F-35A Lightning II example used) = $107,000,000 double price for carrier variant 1 ATG Fighter (A-10 Thunderbolt example used) = $18,500,000 1 Vertical Take-off/Landing Craft (Harrier example used) = $44,500,000 1 UAV (Reaper Surveillance Hunter Killer example used) = $16,900,000 1 Bomber (TU-160 example used) = $250,000,000 1 Stealth Bomber (B-2 example used) = $1,100,000,000 1 Military Cargo Transport/Refueler [HEAVY] (C-130 Hercules example used) = $104,000,000 1 Military Cargo Transport/Refueler/Paradropper [MEDIUM] (C-2 Greyhound example used) = $42,200,000 1 Airborne Early Warning Craft (E-2 Hawkeye example used) = $176,000,000 1 Helicopter Gunship (AH-1 SuperCobra example used) = $12,000,000 1 Helicopter Cargo/Passenger (CH-46 Sea Knight example used) = $12,300,000 1 Helicopter Airborne Mine Countermeasure (CH-53E Super Stallion example used) = $40,400,000 1 Helicopter Utility/Rescue/Troop Lander (UH-1N Twin Huey example used) = $4,700,000 NAVY 1 Destroyer = (Arleigh Burke-Class example used) = $1,900,000,000 1 Submarine = (Seawolf-Class example used) = $2,900,000,000 1 Submarine Ballistic (Vanguard-Class example used) = $2,000,000,000 1 Guided Missile Cruiser (Ticonderoga-Class example used) = $2,400,000,000 <--could not find definite cost, estimated 1 Amphibious Landing Ship (San Antonio-Class example used) = $1,700,000,000 1 Amphibious Assault Ship (Wasp-Class example used) = $800,000,000 1 Aircraft Carrier (Nimitz-Class example used) = $5,700,000,000 <----average based off of ships built in same class with different costs Hopefully this sheds some light on how expensive things really are. I'll admit I did this more for my own enjoyment than anything lol. |

OCC: I apologize. Should this perhaps be merged with the other one? I did see that other thread but thought it didn't really talk about the budget aspect to much because if you have 1 billion people and ur military spending in the calculator is non-existent or only 1% of your budget then you won't have 200 vehicles per billion. In any case I leave it up to the mods. ::feels overzealous and embarrassed:: |

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the lurkiest of them all?
|
No big. Our military system is far from an exact science, largely because war is (usually) not a competitive thing here. It's more common for players to agree on the end result before a thread is even started, heh. The system is basically just there for people to gauge how a war would likely play out in terms of relative strength, feel free to compose your force however you like up to the limits it sets.

OCC: I'd like to request that this not be deleted, if it should be moved I wouldn't cry. I find myself using it a bit more than I had expected
