I realize these goals are next to impossible to achieve within my lifetime, but with them I reestablish important Roman doctrines that must be held to if the Empire is to survive and stay legitimate. For what would the Empire be without Roman thinking and Christian virtue? It would be nothing more than masked sham. A blight upon the Earth. An insult to the past. Rome has always striven to be, nay! has always been the example for all civilization to follow! I am not about to let that end. Know this. Rome... shall rise again.

I am no crusader, nor a fanatic. I merely act in my duty as Emperor of the Roman people. Your heretical Islamic laws do not apply to me, nor any lands you do not hold. Any action taken by the Roman Empire is legal, because it is the Roman Empire, and it created the basis for most of the laws of the world. Your pathetic threats of harsh reprisals do not scare us, the sons of Alexander and Achilles. You can do nothing that shall make the trade of Constantinople suffer, nor can you levy any real threat against the Empire. Furthermore, your rhetoric betrays you. You accuse us of threatening the peace, of intending to undertake aggressive expansionism, when the very nation whose expansion you approve of does the exact same thing, and when you are threatening peace with your statements even now. You are hypocrites. I am at least fully honest about my intentions, but furthermore I recognize there is no folly in reintegrating territory lost to the Empire, nor is there folly in protecting Roman citizens beyond their borders. Everyone has seen the reports, that the people fighting against the Turks in Anatolia do indeed call themselves Roman. You should be thankful I am offering such generous terms and not rushing to defend those people nor invading the nation attacking them. Your nation is powerful, but not as powerful as Rome and her allies. Do not fool yourself in thinking you have a chance at defeating us. If you doubt even one word of what I say, then make war with the Roman people, and you shall see what fate you find your own people in.

This new government must accept that the Roman Empire has fallen into the depths of history, and that it no longer has a place in our contemporary world. It must be realized that this new successor state is not the only country to rise out of the ashes of the former Roman Empire. Much as the Sufis of our Republic did, the people of Anatolia have realized they are not Romans, and can finally hold themselves to a higher calling. Therefore the Republic of Salik will oppose any expansionist attempt by this false state. The people of the Middle east will stand firm against this Crusader, and will not tolerate such open aggression. The Republic of Salik hereby refuses to recognize the legitimacy of the new Roman Empire and its identity as a "Roman Empire." Instead, this successor entity will be known as Muhatal, our word for an impostor. Our Republic is entirely willing to retract these statements so long as the Muhatal state renounces its aggression and sits down for talks of peace with the various countries of the Middle East.
