In the winding streets of Trebizond stood a house like any other. And in went a small man of dark features and simple attire, in he went to that small simple house. Inside, however, was a different story. Ornate tapestries, mattresses and cushions were strewn about everywhere, the smell of incense heavy in the air. Several men with small sidearms were standing around, upright and stiff, trained men.

And in the living room, sitting on the only chair in the house waited Hassan Ibn-Al-Sabbah in all of his glory. Streaks of silver ran through his jet black hair, and a small handsome neat beard decorated his face. His eyes twinkled with intelligence, the fine lines around them just starting to appear. He had an air of splendid charisma and wisdom about him, it was no wonder he managed to take over the Arab Independence Movement and transform it so. He wore a simple white robe with a red sash across the waist and nothing else.

The messenger knelt before him.

"Fi khidmatak ya mawlay. At your service my lord, I have some news from the newly found state of Al-Whaladya."

Hassan smiled in a kind way, a deceptive smile most of the time, a smile that unnerved anyone facing him.

"Please rise, Abdullah, and tell me of this news that was important enough to bring you here."

"Ya Mawlay, there has been a summit of sorts taking place at it's capital, Day Azwar. The nations of the Middle East, and some in Europe, are aiming to try and create a Tranregional Response Taskforce, T.R.T. They want to unite their special forces units together into this force to combat Eretz-Zion and of course, us, the Assassins of the Arab Independence Movement. As far as I know, Semitistan is hesitating, but it will most likely comply and sign this treaty.

As well as that, with the collapse of the Roman Empire, a new state is forming in the Holy Land. Not much information has been given, as it is still all out chaos there, but my sources indicate that it will be a Sufi Muslim nation."

Hassan itched his beard.

"Hmmm, a Sufi Muslim nation, well that is interesting. Hopefully they will be more open minded and well, stupid, haha!" he chuckled in his raspy voice.

"Maybe we can move operations there...to Jerusalem. But in the meantime we shall wait and see. As for the T.R.T situation, well their coordination will mean we will have to be extra careful. There is a long path ahead of us to try and create an Arab state for the Arab people. They are fragmented and dispersed around the Middle East, and uniting them would not be easier...the situation with the T.R.T will make it more difficult.

How about you fetch me the names and details of anyone who was involved in that convention. I think it is time we lived up to our name as Assassins."

Abdullah bowed again,
"Yes, my Lord."

As foreign minister of Semitistan Binyamin Lavon left his residence and went to the offices, and as he went home to his wife and children there was a constant shadow watching him. The shadow of the Assassins. It watched him closely everyday as he travelled the streets of Ishal, the capital of Semitistan.

And then, on a day like any other, as he entered his car and turned the ignition the car erupted in a massive explosion that shook the foundations of the nearby houses. Binyamin Lavon was dead, incinerated, obliterated.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

"Come in."

Deputy foreign minister Hannah Al-Rushdie walked in quietly. Aaron Mordechai saw the red rimmed eyes and heard her sniffling. She had been crying. This woman of iron, who was full of sophistication and coldness, has been reduced to tears, and even he was moved by such a sight. Rarely did he show anything more than professionalism to his colleagues, but this was different.

He stood up and walked over to Hannah, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"It's alright, Hannah. I'll make sure that justice will be carried out for whoever killed Binyamin."

He guided her to a nearby chair where she sat down, and then handed her a tissue.

"I don't know if I am cut out for this Aaron - I mean Mr. Mordechai, sorry."

Aaron waved it off, "don't be silly, woman. You are more than able to take his position. You observed the recent negotiations between Al-Whaladya and Aghaba amazingly well, just take it in your stride. Meanwhile, the S.S.4 will be working around the clock to trace the terrorists who committed this crime. It is either Eretz-Zion or the Assassins of AIM, obviously.

Also, I will increase the security detail for everyone holding a major ministerial position, and that means you too."

Hannah nodded timidly. Aaron saw a little girl for that one second and not a grown woman. She reminded him of his daughter then, but he stopped himself from getting too attached.

"Aaron, please make sure that Binyamin's family are safe at least. He was a great man, loveable and friendly. I really hope that I will carry on his work adequately."

He sighed,
"Just do what you have always been doing, and everything will be fine, Hannah. Now go and get suited to your new office, we might have a lot of work ahead of us."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

In one of the high rise flats in the outskirts of Ishal, the capital sat a member of the S.S.4 listening to intercepted phone calls. One after another, they all seemed so meaningless. And then one glorious call that he heard ended this monotony in the days following the assassination of Binyamin Lavon.

"Tell him everything is okay."

No hello, no goodbye, no mention of who or what, nothing. This was the hallmark of a coded phone call. These two people knew exactly was they were talking about, they worked out what each word in the sentence meant. "Him" is someone important, someone responsible, "everything" is the task, and "okay" is how the task went. And as he traced the phone call, he found the recipient to be close to the Whaladya Semitistan border.

He informed his superiors immediately and they set to work.

The Federal Republic of Aghaba is shocked and dismayed at the savage murder of Foreign Minister Binyamin Lavon.

Mr. Lavon was of impeccable character - a world-class diplomat who was a great force of good in the Middle East. His legacy shall not soon be forgotten.

We wish the swiftest possible justice against the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

Signed,
Consul Rashid Al'Ghul
Prime Minister Rami Assaf
Foreign Minister Ziad Shirazi

It had been only slightly under a week since the tiring peace talks in Semitistan, and Faraz Al-Whaladya was just beginning to regain the strong and confident attitude that had defined his regime up to this point. The peace talks with the Aghabans and the stiffing of his power had weakened his character, and before that day, the Emir hadn't left the solitude of his Imperial Palace. However, after returning from a busy Military inspection, he was inclined to relax once more. Unfortunately, his peace and quiet were to be short lived, because almost as soon as he'd sat down, the captain of his palace guard came running into his room.

"Your Grace, we've gotten word of a terrible assassination attempt on the Semitistani Foreign Affairs minister!" the man yelled.

Faraz Al-Whaladya was shocked. He personally had admired Binyamin Lavon, and despite the aggravating tone that characterized foreign relations with Semitistan at the moment, the Whaladyan leader was visibly saddened. "Relax, Jaffa. Although this news is terrible, I fail to see why you thought it was unnecessary to disturb me?" he questioned.

The man replied, "Because, Your Grace, we have unconfirmed reports that the famous AIM Assassins are behind it! I have strict orders from the Marshal to get you back to Dayr-az-Zawr and too a safer location."

There's always something he thought, as he rose from his chair to accompany his Guard Captain. "Very Well, If the Marshal believes this is extremely necessary." He scoffed.

As the two men rushed out the door they ran directly into Omar and his accompanying guard escorts. Omar smiled before addressing his brother. "So I see you've heard the news? God willing, I hope it was that bastard, Bakri!"

The Emir scowled, "It was Lavon, Omar. I suggest you leave your grudges here, for I feel we will be seeing our friends in Semitistan fairly soon. Someone get me, Hussein, and the T.R.T on the line and make sure my family is safe!" He barked, as the two were led farther down the hall.

It wasn't long before he remembered that he had left some crucial T.R.T intell on his nightstand and, with an escort, the Emir returned briefly to his room. As he went to retrieve the documents, he noticed the files had been pierced with a knife, a knife which was still attached. Faraz Al-Whaladya looked around in a fit of terror, but it appeared that he was alone. Halfway scared to death, he quickly left his room and alerted the nearest guard, who then radioed a superior.

"This one will be difficult" he affirmed to himself as he was escorted into a protective military vehicle. As the convoy left, the Emir's Palace was abuzz with activity.

The Ministry of Defense has released information regarding recent operations within the Persian Wilds.
Official Press Release

Acting on information gathered by the Aghaban Intelligence Agency, last night at approximately 0100 hours 80 inhabitants of the Persian Wilds were apprehended in a series of coordinated raids conducted by counter-terrorist units.
They were detained on charges of violating Article B, Section 2 of the Treaty of the Persian Wilds which prohibits the possession of all forms of explosives, bladed weapons, and firearms. It is believed that these individuals may have information regarding the recent assassination of Semitistani Foreign Minister Binyamin Lavon and are being thoroughly investigated.

In the basement of a nondescript residence in a thoroughly ordinary village somewhere in the Persian Wilds, Ridwan Basir screamed in agony as his ninth fingernail was removed from his hands.

"One more, my friend. You underestimate the amount of pleasure I derive from your suffering." Ridwan hadn't seen his captors since he was blinded, beaten and abducted from his home. His interrogator had a soft voice - his gentle tone concealing his horrendously sadistic character.

Someone untied his left hand and place it upon a wooden surface. They held it down, while the interrogator questioned him once more. "What is your connection to the organization behind Lavon's murder, Basir? Please. No?"

The pain of the hammer smashing his raw fingertips was beyond any he had ever experienced.

"Take this piece of shit away. Bury him with his family."

Ridwan Basir was the twelfth captive they had gone through and none had given up any useful information. Nine of them had confessed to petty criminal involvement and would not be missed. The other three had refused to provide any information regarding their activities. At the very least, this would provide an opportunity for the AIA field agents to hone their interrogation and torture techniques.

Undisclosed Location: Dayr-az-Zawr

The past two nights had been extremely stressful for the Whaladyan government, and for the Emir especially. Soon after the news of Lavon's death, all high ranking Whaladyan officials were either escorted to an underground bunker or placed under high military guard. Inside this hidden government bunker, several stories below the city's military headquarters, Faraz Al-Whaladya planned his countries' next course of action.

The Whaladyan "Big Four" conversed around a large circular table. Besides the Emir, the group consisted of the Commander of Special Forces, Usama Al-Whaladya a.k.a "The Marshal"; the newly elected Prime Minister, Ali Hassam; and Minister of Defense, Omar Al-Whaladya. Although, the group consisted mainly of the Al-Whaladya family, the elected Prime Minister represented the power of Parliament. This new force in Whaladyan politics was stronger than ever, and even the Emir would have to respect it. Despite their apparent differences, the group was united in the opinion that coordinated strikes and apprehensions of targets were necessary.

"This matter of Lavon's assassination and the clues to a potential assassination attempt on myself is greatly dis-concerning." Faraz Al-Whaladya stated, "These two events are most exclusively linked to Semitistani and our involvement in the Day-az-Zawr Convention. If this is true, then all who attended the convention and signed the T.R.T Charter are now in imminent danger."

The mood at the table was extremely grim. Most of the men present, had their families under strict guard and supervision, and all were anxious at striking back at these terrorists. It was Hassam who spoke next.

"Do we have any idea who could be behind this? and have we contacted the other members of the T.R.T?" he questioned.

"There's no doubt in my mind that this is the dirty work of the Arab Independence Movement. There assassin chapter is well-known for their cunning and tenacity and it doesn't surprise me that they were able to eliminate Lavon undetected. We must act quickly and without mercy." Omar said, looking at the Marshal for support.

The Marshal perused some documents before speaking. "From what we know, the Aghabans have conducted a raid within the Persian Wilds, but they haven't released anything concrete. Additionally, were getting nothing from our contacts in the area." The Marshal said plainly. "Its my recommendation that we conduct some operations of our own since neither Semitistan or Aghaba is divulging any intell."

"Are you insane?" Hassam interjected, "We can't conduct anything within the Semitistani-Aghaban custodial zone without first contacting their governments, and furthermore, we should be contacting the T.R.T and getting the word out."

Omar angrily interrupted, "We're wasting time, we need to do something! If bypassing the T.R.T is quicker and more effective then i say we go for it. Besides, we can argue that we were using Whaladyan T.R.T personnel in the raid".

Faraz Al-Whaladya waited until the temperament had settled before giving his input. "There is way we can do this without upsetting the natural flow of things. Marshal, I want you to inform the GFID in the Persian Wilds to conduct surveillance and recon operations within a 4 mile circular radius of the area the Aghabans raided. Additionally, I want the military presence in Al Whaladya heightened and I want the WSF to engage in some internal raids on any known active terrorist hot-beds. Lastly, I'll inform Hussein to address the T.R.T body about this current threat, and hopefully, garner us some more leeway in entering the Persian Wilds further. Does anyone have an issue with this? he questioned.

No one objected, not even the Prime Minister. Latter that night the GFID intercepted Aghaban radio traffic outside a small village in the Persian Wilds. Although they couldn't make out the whole conversation, the phrase, "Dump these bastards over here" was clearly audible.

We would like to inform you that we tracked a person that is linked to the Assassination of Lavon near the Semitistan Whaladya border. His movements indicated that he was heading North towards your territory. We advise that you conduct searches and heighten your surveillance operations within your nation, especially your capital of Dair-Azwar.

We will make sure to inform of you any developments and extra information that we gain.

Semitistan Section Four - S.S.4 - Intelligence and counter-terrorist operations.

Isma'il Shehadeh, the head of the S.S.4, sat in the main data processing room of the S.S.4 offices. Operatives were constantly listening and intercepting communications across all of Semitistan. So far, they did not have much luck, the Assassins were good.

Faris Hassassian walked into the room in plain clothes. It always unsettled Isma'il to not see this man in his uniform since it happened so rarely, and it usually meant things were serious. He knew that beneath his clothes somewhere was at least one gun and two combat knives tucked away.

"Sir, I've been briefed and I am ready to go."

Isma'il stood tersely.

"Go. Just make sure you are careful. Do not go into Whaladyan territory unless it is absolutely and utterly necessary. We have just had some difficult negotiations, and this is the last thing we need. You have been given the names of the border towns and villages. Your team is ready. Let's catch those fucking murderers."

And with that, Faris went off into the night, and towards the Semitistan Whaladyan border.

We are grateful for the sharing of your secure intelligence and be advised that intensive search and seizure operations have already been undertaken by GFID in numerous locations across Al Whaladya. Additionally, be advised that border security between our two nations has been heightened.

Communication should remain open and flowing, and we will inform you should we obtain any info pertaining to Mr. Lavon's murder.

Best of Luck.

-Government Field Intelligence - GFID - Emirate of Al Whaladya

-District 5, Dayr-az-Zawr......

In a small two story apartment building in the Whaladyan capital a handful of AIM operatives enjoyed a quick card game. The recent success of Biyamin Lavon's assassination and their ability to remain quiet thus far, had lulled the men into a state of comfort. Their supposed leader, after losing for the fifth time in a row, decided it was a good time to make his coded phone call to his associates near the border. He casually called his associates, delivered the message, and hung up, all in about 2 minutes.

Unbeknownst to the men inside, the Whaladyan GFID had been tracing all phone calls in the area for the past 2 weeks, and had grown accustomed to the man's voice, and peculiar messages. The GFID had wasted no time in garnering an approval for a raid on the building. Soon after the man's call, a small contingent of Whaladyan special forces surrounded the compound. Their commander had his orders: Capture alive if possible, execute on spot if necessary.

The calm laughter of the men inside was soon broken by the minor implosion of the door, and the thick stream of smoke entering from the doorway. In a panic the men scrambled to find their weapons and prepare for a suicidal defense.

"GFI-" their leader attempted to scream before a bullet ripped open his jugular. His associates fared little better, with the remaining men engaging in small arms fire with the GFID before all but one was eventually put down. The GFID managed to rush the man as he fumbled to load his magazine in the smoke. As he was pushed to the ground and kicked repeatedly, the GFID Commander put a gun to the man's head and removed his wallet. Hosni Al-Akbar, precisely the man they were looking for.

"Get this piece of shit out of here." the Commander ordered, and in a heartbeat the GFID were gone. Soon after the Whaladyan police quartered off the area.

-Hamzi Checkpoint - 1 Mile from Semitistan/Whaladya Border

Muhammad Sadat had joined the Whaladyan National Army primarily to escape his home in Iraq. He now found himself on the outskirts of Whaladyan territory overlooking the border between the Emirate and Semitistan. Border security had been heightened after the recent assassination in Semitistan, and Sadat and his small squad now were responsible for "regulating" traffic into Al Whaladya.

"Not one single vehicle will get passed this checkpoint, men!" Sadat barked. "These Assassin bastards might attempt entry within our sector tonight. If they try, they will feel the full force of the WNA!" The men gripped their AK-103s and loaded their DShK HMGs.

No one was getting into Al Whaladya tonight.

Hosni Al-Akbar said muttered something.

"Inna li'llahi, wa inna ilayhi raji'oon - We belong to God, and to him we shall return"

And he swallowed the pill. He hoped it would be enough. As he was being carried foam and blood started coming out of his mouth, his heart was going out of control and he started convulsing violently.

---

Shofat Checkpoint - 1/2 mile from Semitistan Whaladyan Border - Semitistani side

Five pick up trucks packed with armed men sped straight towards the checkpoint towards Whaladya.

"This is it, men!"

The truck at the front which only had one driver did not stop despite the erratic waving of the soldiers and the warnings. And so they opened fire, but it was too late. Right at the gate it exploded into a ball of fire causing chaos. The other four pick up trucks swerved around and the men jumped behind them for cover and started firing erratically at the survivors.

All the while, another five men were slowly flanking the checkpoint's position, cutting the razor wire chain link fence and stepping through. They carried on their journey, not daring to help their comrades in case this all goes wrong.

---

Faris Hassassian was speeding in his car with four other of his best operatives, all in plain clothes and sporting MP5 Submachine guns and various equipment.

Shofat checkpoint was a mess, the military back up has arrived and bodies were being carried away, some of Semitistani soldiers. Four pick up trucks were riddled with bullets and bloodstains, the gate was destroyed and the youngest of the soldiers were going through shock.

Hassassian jumped out shouting

"This is S.S.4! What the fuck is going on here!?"

An NCO sprinted towards him, desparation in his eyes.

"Operative Hassassian, please follow me."

They stopped at the cut in the chain link fence. He knew what happened. All of this attack, all of those people dead for a distraction so that some people can get through. He wanted to punch the NCO but he refrained from that.

He headed back to his car and spread through the checkpoint to Al-Whaladya. He immediately recorded a message on the Radio that would repeat on a constant loop.

"This is S.S.4 Operative Hassassian. We are approaching in a BLUE car. I repeat, we are approaching in a BLUE car. Elements of A.I.M have escaped and are possibly headed toward your direction."

Assad Memorial Hospital, Dayr-az-Zawr

The GFID transporting Hosni Al-Akbar had failed to locate the cyanide tablet he had been hiding behind his back teeth during the arrest, and were now paying the price for their negligence. Al-Akbar had almost managed to slip away during their speedy transport to the nearest hospital, but luckily for the GFID, the assassin's pill was only a smaller dosage of hydrogen cyanide and only managed to cause an extremely painful experience rather than immediate death.

The hospital staff hadn't been particularly busy that night, and were promptly shocked into immediate response when the unfamiliar men rushed the convulsing man into the ER. The doctors and nurses quickly followed protocol and hooked Al-Akbar up to monitoring equipment, whilst desperately trying to stabilize his rapidly increasing heart-rate. Eventually after 20 grueling minutes, the head doctor managed to stop the effects of the poison and Hosni Al-Akbar was in a stable, albeit comatose state.

When the GFID leader pressed the nurses to interrogate the man, they simply refused to allow them entry telling them that Al-Akbar was likely to die from the effects of a prolonged and, likely violent, interrogation. They would have to allow the man time to "come back to life" before proceeding with their work. The leader was livid, but complied stating, "When this piece of shit wakes up, I'm going to have complete and total access. Keep him alive..for the time being."

The lead operative ordered his best two men to guard the door to Al-Akbar's room, allowing only medical personnel entry. His remaining 8 men would guard the lobby and entrance to the floor. He also radioed command to send backup, knowing full well Akbar's associates would likely come to rescue him, or more likely, silence him.

Hamzi Checkpoint - 1 Mile from Semitistan/Whaladya Border

Lieutenant Sadat sat comfortably inside his command tent sipping a cup of tea, whilst his men rigorously guarded the road. He had just taken a hearty sip when a muffled transmission had arrived through the checkpoint's only radio. Tragically, the Whaladyan army was supplied with poor radios in these parts, and they were often plagued with poor signal range and quality. The heavy static only allowed Sadat to make out the words "....S.S.4...approaching in...blue car...headed toward your direction..."

The strange voice was mostly inaudible and unfortunately Sadat was unable to conclude that it was indeed Hassassian's voice informing him of their arrival. To the Lieutenant, it was a warning for an impending attack possibly sent by GFID operatives monitoring the approach. Luckily, the transmission was looped and Sadat was eventually able to understand the messages true meaning. Unfortunately, before he could even leave the tent he had heard the loudspeaker and the following indistinguishable heavy fire from the DShKs.

---

Apparently, the men monitoring the road and search lights had spotted the S.S.4 convoy, and not knowing anything about Hassassian's message, had promptly targeted the convoy and directed the search lights. The relatively green Whaladyan infantrymen had proceeded to shout "halt" at the approaching convoy, but for what ever reason, the convoy was unable to hear the command. As a result the Whaladyan infantry opened fire severely damaging the lead vehicle and throwing the rest of the convoy into disarray.

The S.S.4 quickly exited their vehicles and took cover. Operative Hassassian, furious, screamed out.

"What are you doing!? This is S.S.4, were friendlies! I repeat, we are friendlies!"

At that moment Sadat managed to regain control over his panicked soldiers and informed them of the S.S.4 intentions. He quickly shouted back, embarrassed.

"There has been a misunderstanding! We couldn't copy your transmission until just now, whats your status?"

Miraculously, no one was injured in the shootout and Hassassian and his men slowly emerged from cover and proceeded to meet up with their Whaladyan counterparts.

Hassassian approached Sadat, his heart still pounding and still in shock. He had to double check that no one was hurt as it was a miracle. He shouldn't have panicked and should not have been driving quickly especially considering he was in plain clothes. He endangered the lives of his team...if he repeated this mistake he may not be so lucky the next time.

Checking the name badge of the Lieutenant before him, Hassassian showed his badge.

"Lieutenant Sadat, I am Faris Hassassian, S.S.4 Special Forces and Intelligence." And then saluted briefly.

Sadat returned the salute.

"I believe you have now received our transmission in full. We tried to catch the intruders but we did not come across anyone. We do expect them to be on foot, but they may have found some means of transport. That or they may be traversing the borderlands carefully. Did you see any unusual activity around here? It would be a good idea to have your Southern border on alert."

Semitistan - Al-Whaladya Borderlands

Amir Husami, the guide and his personal bodyguard were walking gingerly making careful use of the small Syrian hills as cover. The guide seemed to know where he was going, but it will also be a long journey. The assassination of Lavon was successful, and now to rendezvous with the other members in the newly found Republic of Salik. They had to go to CMESS controlled Anatolia which should hopefully be still in turmoil after a mass invasion. Chaos has always been their darkness. The Whaladyans established themselves quickly, but the chaos in Salik was ideal for now. The attack on the border checkpoint was almost madness, it cost lives, but it worked. Such was the genius of his leader Hassan Ibn-Al-Sabbah of the AIM.

And so they continued due West, towards a dying and setting sun...

Sadat quickly answered Hassassian's question. "No, unfortunately, our sector has been eerily quiet......that is until a few minutes ago." he said apologetically. He wasn't wrong on the matter, however, for the entire night had been rather dull. The transmission came as a complete surprise to the lieutenant and the news of an infiltration was troubling. Sadat radioed his associates at other checkpoints and continued.

"It appears that no one else across our border has witnessed any suspicious behavior, but its possible the enemy could have slipped through our razor wire undetected just as easily as yours." He said sternly. "I'm going to put in a call to Military Command to request additional men and possibly some unmanned recon surveillance across the border."

Sadat was aware that this request was likely to take time, time that they didn't have if they wanted to catch the operators before they vanished among the civilian population, or transferred borders.

"I fear we may lose these infiltrators If we wait for my back up" Sadat said worried, "Are you aware of where they infiltrated from and in which direction they're traveling? We may be able to catch them ourselves if we hurry!"

Hassassian shook his head in puzzlement.

"The only thing we have to go by is the cut in our own razor wire, sir. There are tracks that head North towards your borders but they disappear after a while. They know what they are doing, this is very - "

"HASSASSIAN!"

An operative sprinted from the small convoy and Hassassian turned around in alarm.

"Radio transmission from HQ. Thermal imaging has picked up the inflitrators, they aren't going North to Whaladya. They are heading West to CMESS controlled Anatolia!"

Hassassian turned to Sadat.

"I will try and catch up with them on the convoy. You may follow us with a team if you wish. Oh and...a pleasure meeting you Lietenant"
And he gave a salute.

Lieutenant Sadat was amused.

"The pleasures all mine, sir." He said with a smile returning Hassassian's salute. Just a moment ago, Sadat's men were shooting to kill the S.S.4 men. However, there was a more pressing issue at present

"Everyone listen up!" Sadat bellowed as his men crowded around. "We will be following S.S.4 into the borderlands in pursuit of terrorist operators. I wan't a small contingent to remain here and secure our border against further intrusion. You will be relieved at 0900 hours."

A small group of Sadat's men volunteered to stay behind as the rest of the border guard pilled into a small convoy of armored cars and BMPs and proceeded to follow the Semitistanis. On route Sadat radioed command.

"Command, this is Hamzi Border Security 2, we are in pursuit of AIM operators on route to the CMESS controlled expansion zone. Requesting the aid of AWAC's and any available air support."

Although Sadat was unaware, the Military Leadership was currently dealing with a major debacle involving the GFID in the Aghaban security zone, and as a result was reluctant to divert available air cover in case of an Aghaban attack. However, eventually Command agreed to divert some manned reconnaissance aircraft in the hopes of garnering good relations with the Semitistani.

"Were right behind you" Sadat radioed to Hassassian, "Lead the way."

It wasn't long before Hosni Al-Akbar began to show signs of life after his close encounter with death. The medical staff at AMH had done a great and admirable job of stabilizing the man. As soon as Al-Akbar's eyes opened, Major Guz rose from his chair and slowly approached the hospital bed. Al-Akbar's slightly cresting eyelids soon became wide open as he starred up at his captor.

"How was your nap, my friend?" the major said mockingly, "You gave us quite the scare."

Hosni Al-Akbar was overcome with shame at the failure of his attempt to end his life. All he could do now was hope his commitment to his leader, god, and creed were strong enough to resist torture and interrogation.

"We've been watching you very closely, Mr. Al-Akbar." Major Guz said starring the man down, "We understand that you are a very well qualified engineer, are you not?"

Hosni Al-Akbar remained stone faced, but his eyes soon widened when he saw the Major unsheathe his 6 inch combat knife.

"Oh don't be alarmed, Mr. Akbar" Major Guz said re-reassuringly, "You won't be meeting the edge of this here." The Major turned to the window and casually waved to the head nurse. "When your in condition to travel we can arrange a meeting."

Whaladya - Semitistan Borderlands

They sped through. The civilian jeeps were in the middle of the military convoy as they kicked up dust. Hassassian clutched his MP5-SD tightly and became conscious of his breathing, staying calm. The operative in the front passenger seat kept on getting updates via radio.

"We are approximately three hundred meters from the fugitives, sir....two hundred and fifty....two hundred."

Hassassian was sure that the Whaladyans havee their own intel streaming in, but his radio was at the ready so he can inform them, just in case. Just as he was about radio in, a transmission came from the BMP in front.

"We have a visual, one hundred meters ahead just over a hill"

The high pitched sound of megaphones activating pierced the air just after.

"You are being tracked by joint military of Whaladya and Semitistan. Lay down your arms and surrender. Or else!"

The BMP veered to the side as planned, and all the vehicles fanned out into a pincer shape, all looking ahead and enclosing the fugitives.

"I repeat, lay down your arms!"

They did not listen.

---

Amir Husami, running with nothing but the clothes on his back and a battered AK-101 shouted at his two other compatriots.

"This is it men. If they take us alive they find out everything. We are but cogs in the great machinations of our leader. LABAYK YA IBN-AL-SABBAH!"

And with that shout they turned around, spraying bullets like mad men. Husami spotted the less armored civilian cars of the S.S.4 and shot towards them. And as if fate waited for this moment, the first stray bullet to fly hit the driver of Hassassian's Jeep in the shoulder, causing him to veer and spin un-controllably. But that was the most damage that would be done to them, as the BMPs returned fire ripping Husami and one other companion to shreds instantly. However, one of them lay down his arms, unable to face death for now. He was face down in the ground, shaking with his weapon flung away a few feet by him.
The convoy came to a halt. Hassassian ordered his men to look after their driver who was laid on the ground. He sprinted towards the survivor with his gun trained on him, as did a few Whaladyan soldiers. As they picked him up, they found a big wet patch on his fatigues and he smelt of urine. He resisted the urge to smack him with the butt of his SMG.

They had one survivor, that was good news. But what were they doing headed to CMESS controlled Anatolia?

Immediately after the short firefight, Sadat and some of his men assisted S.S.4 in apprehending the suspect. Most of his men were in a state of adrenaline rush after the engagement and a few didn't share the same restraint as Hassassian. As they were transporting the young man to the BMPs they routinely man-handled him and proceeded to belittle him in a manner that made Sadat grateful that no TRT personnel were around. After one of his soldiers fired a round off near the man's head, Sadat was furious and sternly ordered them to stop.

Sadat radioed Military Command that the deed was done and that they had managed to get a captive. Command was quick to inform the Lieutenant that another man believed to be part of AIM was apprehended and that the Joint Whaladyan-Semitistani team would have to transport the man to a safe location so GFID could debrief Sadat's team and organize a plan of action with S.S.4.

Sadat nodded and walked over to Hassassian. "You alright?" he asked sincerely. Hassassian nodded and directed Sadat's attention to the driver who was losing blood. "I'll have one of my medics take a look at him." Sadat said calling over the medic.

"Whaladyan Military Command just ordered me to secure the captive and transport him to a place where we can rendezvous with GFID." He said seriously. "They want to discuss next steps with you."

"That is no problem, Lieutenant Sadat." Said Hassassian, "but please remember, if this man is carrying Semitistani citizenship then he will have to be taken back to Semitistan as soon as possible. But for now, I will follow you to rendezvous with GFID. Having an opportunity to talk to him a little will definitely be useful."

As they started walking back to the vehicles, Hassassian carried on talking

"Also, one more question, sir. What do you know of the situation in Jerusalem? Things have been very chaotic in the Holy Land, but we have reason to believe that AIM have an interest there. They seem to have an...uncanny talent for showing up where chaos is and Jerusalem is important to them. The collapse of the Roman Empire does seem like a perfect opportunity."

One of Hassassian's men radioed in from one of the jeeps to HQ informing them of the situation and change of plan.

Hannah Al-Rushdie, the foreign minister who took the place of Lavon received the dispatch from S.S.4 head quarters.

Sadat realized that the GFID would most likely be unhappy should both subjects be contained separately. Most soldiers in Al Whaladya were too familiar with the government's intelligence operators and their tendencies to usually get what they want, and Sadat hoped for a brokering that would benefit both Semitistan and the Emirate.

He answered Hassassian's question, "I'm afraid I know as much as anyone else when it comes to the Republic of Salik. After the Romans pulled out, the people organized under some sort of military backed Sufi regime. Unfortunately, the chaos you mention does create a suitable breeding ground for scum, much like our friend here." Sadat said glaring down at the captured man.

Not too soon after, another convoy of vehicles became visible passing quickly through the dust of the dessert. Sadat noticed the insignia on the sleek black SUVs and immediately recognized which branch they belonged too. The GFID had arrived.

Sadat and Hassassian casually approached the vehicles. As they came within a few feet a man dressed in all black combat gear stepped out of the passenger seat and introduced himself as Major Jaffa Guz, of the GFID. He was joined by two equally menacing looking individuals, a T.R.T Liaison, and a masked man in handcuffs. Major Guz looked directly at Hassassian as he asked

"I understand you have an important suspect in custody?" He said with a look that was off putting to both Sadat and Hassassian. "Would you please take me too him?"

The group walked over to where the recently captured man was being held, squatting and restrained. Major Guz looked the man up and down with is piercing gaze before motioning for his operatives to bring the masked man over. The operatives sat the man down and removed his mask, revealing that it was Hosni Al-Akbar, the man captured earlier that night. The two quickly recognized each other before quickly turning away to hide their familiarity.

Major Guz was wise to their tricks and addressed the group as he calmly lit himself a cigarette. "I do believe these two know each other, being from the same organization and all. Shall we find out what they know?"

"By all means, Major Guz, let's do just that" muttered Hassassian.

The two captives were kneeling next to each other. Hassassian went on one knee at eye level, speaking in fluent Arabic.

"Hello gentlemen. Just to let you know, I am S.S.4, let that sink in and try to remember what we did to you people when you were
infesting our country."

Both of their faces turned white. No doubt they heard the stories.

"Major Guz here is going to ask you questions, and if you answer them then no problem. No one will be hurt. But if you don't, well we might just get full custody of you and drag you kicking and screaming back to Ishal, understood?"

The two men nodded, their shoulders relaxed slightly. The have lowered their guard. So Hassassian asked with no warning.

"Do you have any connections in Salik?"

They glanced at each other but said nothing. Hassassian knew the answer now, but he got up before they could answer together and let Major Guz take care of the rest.

Major Guz smirked when he heard Hassassian threaten the men with extrication back to Semitistan. At the very least, Akbar wasn't going anywhere, and because this other man had been captured within the Whaladyan borderlands the GFID would argue for his custody.

"Thank you, Operative Hassassian." The Major stated, getting on the captive's level, "Lets start with names, gentlemen. Lets get acquainted."

Both men looked away and refused to answer. Major Guz smiled, interrogating was his favorite aspect of his job. He was particularly good at it, and he believed the two men before him would likely break before long.

"Do you remember what Hassassian said a moment ago?" Major Guz said as he un-holstered his pistol. The two men were visibly startled, but refused to answer. The Major, rather spontaneously, swung his pistol across the newly captured man's face spattering blood onto the dessert sand. Strangely, the TRT liaison was silent at this blatant violation.

"My name is Armand Nassar!" the man cried out, cowering behind Hosni Al-Akbar. Al-Akbar also reintroduced himself in fear of a similar punishment.

"See? That wasn't so difficult." The Major said wiping Nassar's blood on his own jacket, "Now, would you please inform me of your intentions this night?"

Nassar answered without hesitation, "We were running surveillance! We hoped to catch you unaware!"

Major Guz was skeptical, and he reacted accordingly. "Bullshit!" he stated loudly, and he quickly swung his pistol against Nassar's head a second time. "You expect me to believe you ran a Semitistani checkpoint, guns blazing, to conduct recon? No, what was your true mission?" he questioned again raising his arm in motion for an additional strike.

"No, please!" Nassar cried, "Fine, we were travelling into Al Whaladya to meet up with Al-Akbar and transfer a message!" He said looking at Al-Akbar. "When he didn't pick up his phone we assumed he was compromised and so we had to take the info elsewhere!" Nassar said bending over, burying his head as deep into the ground as possible. In response, Al-Akbar nodded in affirmation.

The Major looked pleased. He lowered his arm, and asked calmly, "To Salik?" The men yet again remained silent, and Major Guz looked at Hassassian to intervene.

Hassassian pointed to his left where the remains of the other two lay on the ground and said coldly,

"we listened to your friend when he spoke on his mobile phone. We know he is connected to the assassination of foreign minister Lavon.
Just don't fuck around."

Hosni was not so scared, and he wasn't surprised, he heard the talk about how he attempted to end his own life. But the other person, the
one who urinated himself from fear, was definitely terrified.

"Okay then. I will count to three, and I want both of you to answer to the locations that you are going. one...two. three."

"Trebizond" said Hosni, his head bowed toward the ground.

"Salik" said the other terrified man. He looked up pleadingly.

And Hassassian cracked a smile. Hosni tried to launch his body at the other prisoner in anger, shouting, "YA MANYAK! YA JABAN - YOU COWARD! HOW DARE YOU!?"

To the amusement of Hassassian, Major Guz watched them wrestle for a while as they were tied up before he ordered his soldiers to break them up.

"Salik it is then", Hassassian said, "it would make sense. A newly formed nation, with the city of Jerusalem within its borders. A city that is important in many ways to the Arab identity and history that so concerns AIM. A place that we haven't been able to monitor too well, and is yet close by. And now of course, this." he indicated his head towards the prisoners with disgust.

"Might I suggest we take them somewhere where we can get comfortable and see what else we can extract out of them, Major Guz?"

Major Guz looked into the vast wasteland that lay before the group, instead of immediately answering Hassassian's proposal. Had the S.S.4 not been present, he would have likely executed Nassar and dumped his worthless body among his fallen brethren, but in the interest of good relations with Semitistan he reluctantly buried such thoughts.

However, this would not stop him from toying with his captives and he slowly knelt down beside Nassar and whispered in his ear, "Listen carefully to me. Had you been my captive I would have splattered your brains all across this dessert and left your body for the buzzards. However, S.S.4 seems inclined to keep you for information. Should you refuse to tell us everything you know, neither Allah nor S.S.4 will save you from me." With that Nassar looked down and whimpered to himself. Hosni Al-Akbar grunted in disgust.

"Very well, sir." Major Guz said directed towards Hassassian, "Might I suggest we move them to our Hamzi military compound? It's a mere 30 minutes from here?"

Watching the interrogations from a distance, Lieutenant Sadat wished to distance himself from the heavy handed approach the GFID adopted. Although a patriot, Sadat abhorred the dehumanizing methods used by interrogators to torture their victims into relaying information. Such were his feelings when one of Guz's men approached him.

"Lieutenant Muhammad Sadat." the man said, "The Whaladyan Government has seen fit to promote you to a mandatory position within our nation's field intelligence department. Welcome to the GFID, soldier."

"Figures." Sadat thought to himself, as he begrudgingly took his new chevrons from the man. It remained to be seen how he would perform his duty now.

Hassassian regarded Major Guz with a certain disgust. He understood the need to be harsh and violent at times, but this man clearly enjoyed what he did through and through.

"Your suggestion is a good one, and I think we can take them there for you to...toy with them a little. But in the end"

Hassassian pulled out the passport of the cowardly man.

"At least one of them carries Semitistani citizenship. While I respect that he has been taken within Whaladyan borders, the fact that he may be connected to a major crime in our own nation means that I might have to take him in."

The man knelt there, in between two people, neither of whom he would want to be held by. And yet there they were, discussing his fate as if it was a business deal. And in a way it was.

Major Guz was also critical of Hassassian, a man he regarded as unwilling to go the distance to achieve ultimate success, and his tone shifted from professional to conceited rather quickly.

"What you speak is true." He said looking down at Nassar, "If you wish to waste precious time on this boy then he's your burden. A mere foot soldier will know nothing of AIM's more elaborate plans."

Hassassian looked offended, but said nothing, and instead focused his gaze on Major Guz. In an effort to relieve some of the tension, Sadat interrupted the silence.

"Shall we proceed to Hamzi?" He said pleading, "Once we have extracted all the information we can from these men we can continue in our mission to uncover the big picture."

In response the men loaded the captives into a BMP and proceeded to the Hamzi Military Compound to continue their interrogation.

Hassassian was relieved of Sadat's intervention. He seemed to be someone who was more on his level instead of Major Guz.

Hassassian ordered his men to report back to H.Q.
"Tell them that we have a - " he looked at the passport quickly "Armand Nassar as a captive, and a possible connection to the Lavon assassination and that we are heading to Hamzi. We will report on more developments soon."

They got into the heavily guarded compound. An army of discipline surrounded them. Hassassian was impressed by the Hamzi compound as he saw soldiers under going physical training in the dusty courtyards.

They entered one of many buildings in the compound, lined with many cells, some filled and some empty, and to a series of interrogation rooms. Hassassian was directed to an observation room, where he saw nothing but a chair sitting under a lone, dim light in a drab and depressing room.

He saw Hosni Al-Akbar being taken into the room with Major Guz and two of his guards fully armed following in behind. And so, the interrogation began. Hassassian was especially interested in seeing how Guz will handle this...

Tiberias, the Republic of Salik

With the CMESS busy with the invasion of Anatolia, and the chaos surrounding the crumbling Roman Empire, Hassan Ibn-Al-Sabbah, the leader of AIM and their military wing, the Assassins, moved into Jerusalem. They passed themselves as Sufi Muslims, seeking a land ruled by a like minded government; the Republic of Salik which holds the Holy Land now.

And so it was there, in a small stone house that sat beside the sea of Galilee that Abdullah, the messenger, knelt before his lord.

"Ya mawlay, my lord. The assassination of Semitistani foreign minister, Benyamin Lavon, has been a success. Although, we have lost all contact with the cell that was responsible. They did attack the Semitistani border checkpoint more or less successfully and many had died for the cause. But the main men who were to rendezvous have...disappeared."

"Mhmm" - Ibn-Al-Sabbah said, scratching his chin which now had a larger beard.

"Oh and, my lord. Eretz-Zion have been facing increasing casualties in the Persian Wilds, where a new government, sympathetic to Semitistan has been formed. I believe it goes by the name of Dahkeid"

That got a smile from Ibn-Al-Sabbah, but he was worried.

"Abdullah, my good servant. Our men who disappeared, they need to be found. Right as we speak they could be spilling our secrets. Even if many have died and proven themselves completely loyal, you can never be too careful. Increase communications surveillance in the area and see if you can find a...kink in the armour of the Semitistanis and Whaladyans."

"Yes my lord, I will dispatch the orders immediately."

"Oh and one more thing. This republic of Salik, find out more about it. Those Sufis may be the key to supporting an Arab independence and to restoring Arab pride. I think we may need to start political operations here...but more details on that later."

"Yes...my lord."

Abdullah was intrigued. Everytime Ibn-Al-Sabbah mentioned "details later", they never failed to surprise or impress.
