That is a beautiful flag - and quite intricate for a flag design. Thanks for posting it! A little later I'll try to post a couple that I like.

I've actually become slightly addicted to deviantart.com for this very reason. Some of the artists and their flag designs....

For example:

Basically this is the Standard of the King of Israel by an artist known as Nonsense0909. I really liked it when I came across it not only the choice of shading and texture, but I think also for the idea itself. Its for Israel, where it founded as a Kingdom rather than a Republic.

Another flag I found on deviantart that I rather like is this one, its of Ultranationalist Russia as seen in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Yeah I'm a little curious about much of the emblem in the flag myself. The Artist said they took it out of a screen shot for CoD: MW3 and that it was a flag being used by the Ultranationalist group from Russia. The artist linked to a wiki about Russia from the game but from what I read (having only played a few CoD: Modern Warfare games) the Ultranationalist want to restore Russia back to the days of the Soviet Union, so why they'd choose symbols that are more reminiscent of the monarchy doesn't make much sense to me. From a purely artistic point of view though, I thought it was an interesting and unique flag even if the symbols are a bit obscure and make little sense :P

Any thoughts on the new flag? I thought the return of the bicolor could indicate the resurgent republic, while the castle can be a reference to the mountain fortress which form the epicenter of the new government.

I like it, and I like the symbolism involved in its design as well. ^^

So I came across this and I thought that if the United States had become the United Kingdom instead, this should have been its state seal:

That looks pretty awesome, though personally I don't think the double-headed eagle would be appropriate for the United States. Also, the crosses surmounting the crowns imply an establishment of religion, so this would also have to be a non-secular United States.

I tend to agree on the symbolic nature of what was used to create this particular image. I'm not entirely sure the artist took these things into account although it is clear some thought into the symbols was taken. I don't particularly feel a non-secular US is entirely outside the realm of possibility were we to have adopted a monarch, even if it were merely an elected on (which arguably some would say we have :P ). Still, I generally agree with your statements but have to say that from a purely esthetic point of view, its quite pleasing to the eyes ^^

I largely agree with the comment about the double headed eagle. Although, given that Germanic peoples played a large role in the founding of the US - albeit through a watered down Saxon line, it could be argued that we are entitled to it as a successor state to the HRE. At least as much as the HRE was entitled to it as a successor to the Byzantines. The Byzantines took it from Hittites. Although they were theoretically "entitled" to Rome's single headed eagle, they eventually decided to adopt the more ancient foreign symbol.

TLDR: symbols are symbolic, so long as you don't look at them for too long. If the early leaders of the US decided this was the way to go, they had as much right to it as anyone. Although the point regarding the crosses was well taken.

I have a feeling if we chose GW as monarch instead of president there would be a whisky still in there somewhere! Also, the crosses make sense because of the religious persecution that drove so many to America. I don't mind the double eagles - I just wish they were double-headed turkeys or double-headed doves. I never liked the eagle as a symbol for America.
