Church bells rang jubilantly in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Venice as news that Venetian Doge Domenico Contarini and Tsarevna Maria Paulovna Romanov were wed spread through the two nations. Tsarevna Maria is the youngest daughter of the late Tsar Paul II and his wife, Aaline Alexandervicha Ribbenzoph Romanova making her also the youngest sister to the Tsar Alexei II. Tsar Alexei, his wife Tsaritsa Atia and their children Tsesarevich Ivan, Tsarevich Constantine, Tsarevich Nikolai, Tsarevna Sophia, Tsarevna Elizabeth, and Tsarevna Anna were all in attendance along with a small delegation of other Russian nobles close to the Romanov family. Doge Contarini, long time leader of Venice, is of the Venetian noble Contarini family which are one of the oldest Venetian families whose origins are often linked to the beginning of the city itself. For more on this story we take you live to Venice where our own Andrei Petrov.

Thanks Vera, the scene was beautiful here in the Republic of Venice as the pair made their first appearance as a couple. Sources closest to both say that their relationship has been on going for sometime despite that sudden shock by many that the two were connected at all. Truth of is, both families have been hard working to keep the relationship a secret for the privacy of the couple. However, after a proposal from the Doge, the marriage was quickly organized. Thousands here in Venice came out to see the couple's first public appearance with the roar of the crowd deafening. Though the media nor cameras were allowed in, we're told the ceremony was kept traditional to Venetian tradition, with some elements of Russian traditions given in honor of Maria. Along with relatives of both families, some of the most powerful and closest friends of both the Contarini and Romanov family were also on hand. I was fortunate enough to catch up with his majesty, Tsar Alexei and asked him for his thoughts on the marriage and the ceremony.

Tsar Alexei interview

Doge Contarini is a long-time friend and his marriage to my sister Maria is something I encouraged. They are a beautiful couple and I wish them nothing but the best in the future. The ceremony was nice, though small, it made it more personal for both the guests and the families I think. Venice has been an outstanding ally to the Russian Empire and as this marriage will undoubtedly bring our two families closer, I should think it will also bring out two people closer. I look forward to the future and am pleased to have Doge Contarini as a brother.

With so many in the streets and along the waterways, its unlikely the celebrations will stop anytime soon. We're told the royals and their guests will be hosted by the Contarini in one of their palaces here at the city, a feast held in the couple's honor. We're also told that Tsar Alexei has already given the couple a palace along the outskirts of Saint Petersburg as a present along with an unspecified dowry given to Maria before marriage as a gift. Unverified sources claim the dowry is an estimated 830 million Rubles ($500 million) however, we've yet been able to verify that amount. Also unverified is where the couple will be spending their honeymoon although many believe the couple may not leave the country given the current state of affairs in Europe. However, with so much going on in the Baltic and elsewhere in the world, many here in the Venetian Republic are glad to have some good news and something to celebrate. Reporting live for Moscow Nightly News, I'm Andrei Petrov.

OOC: Basically we've been alluding to the relationship for a while, off and on now. Telo didn't particular care to do a whole wedding RP so instead asked if I'd just announce it in a news report such as this. Please feel free to post your nation's remarks or well-wishes and for those that are considered allies or close friends of either families please consider yourselves as having been present to the ceremony.

"Work is the curse of the drinking classes."

If one were to listen carefully at the light, pleasant chatter that filled the reception hall they would undoubtedly hear a mixture of Russian, Italian, Venetian, Greek, and Latin. If one where to look out at the guests it wouldn't be terribly difficult to dissect the Mediterranean stock from the Russian, though admittedly there were some who were challenging to place. In this gathering of excess Venetian and Roman accented Latin there came the ring of a subtly different pronunciation, stress, and vocal style of that same language. Without seeing them, as readily identifiable as they were, that small detail was all one had at guessing they were neither from Venice nor from the Roman Empire.

The Russians were an interesting case, from a Porcuian perspective, as there was at least a common language connecting Porcu to Venice and Constantinople. Apart from the monarchy, Russia was viewed quite positively by a large swath of the Porcuian populace - their literature, rising music scene, and artistic treasures all highly attractive to the Scandinavians. Russian, as a language learned in schools and universities, was even on the rise. At the political level, however, not all of the same emotions and adjectives were elicited when Russia came up in conversation. To a certain degree, it was still incredible that any Porcuians would find themselves as guests to such an important event.

The two were naturals, however, and they fit well - almost as if they had been friends, and their countries allies, for many, many years. They shared stories and jokes and laughed with their hosts. Perhaps not surprisingly, one managed relatively well in the language of the Tsar.

"Presidents Gularis and Nixon, I want to thank you for honoring Maria and I with your presence here today." Doge Contarini said warmly to his Porcuian guests.

Both Nixon and Gularis, as well as the members of their families, gave a low bow as a sign of respect to the newlyweds.

"I want to wish you the very best." Nixon began. "And for your invitation; it means quite a lot to me to have your trust and respect."

"As with me." Gularis added. "This sign of friendship, between Porcuians, Romans, Venetians, and Russians, is not taken for granted. Congratulations!"

Discussions between all attending were relaxed and pleasant, but due to the very nature of some a complete absence of politics wasn't possible. Still, the events within acted as a welcome, if temporary, distraction from the war and complex political situation without.

OOC: I liked that post Porcu. It makes it hard to let the empire go.
