Sinop and its harbour

Sinop was a very small harbour on the northern coast of Anatolia. It was one of the most ancient cities of the world, which had known a great fortune when it was a prosperous Greek colony. These days of glory had long waned and Sinop now was a sleepy harbor of fishers, inhabited by no more than 20.000 people, of which the majority was made up by the child, the woman and the elderly.
Sinop had indeed become so irrelevant that it had been ceded by a confederate diplomat to a state that never had anything to do with it and which, probably, the brave Sinopians had never heard about. Even when the newspapers announced the event, the Sinopians didn't believe that such a thing could happen and, after having found Marslava on the world map, they just shrugged their shoulders: the Grand Duke of Marslava could call himself ruler of Sinop if he wanted, but there was no way that his men would come to Sinop. After all, they thpought, Sinop had been left to itself since immemorable times and there was no way this would change....

But it did change when, during the night, a merchant ship approached the old dock of Sinop, which had only seen fishers' boats since immemorable times. The noise of its motors woke up those who lived close enough to the harbour, who would watch the entire scene from their houses.
Many many men came out of that ship, they could have been three hundreds, maybe five hundreds, and these men were armed. They wore uniforms that they had never seen and they spoke a language that they had never heard, however, from how they moved, it seemed that they knew the city and had studied its geography. Indeed the docks, the town hall and all other essential buildings were occupied quickly by the armed men. In the morning the word came that the strangers had something to say and all the townfolks assembled in the central square to hear what had happened.
On the balcony of the town hall there stood the mayor, still in his pijama, and an officer who wore an uniform that nobody had ever seen before.

The stranger's name was Novacek and he spoke Turkish, he said that Sidon had passed to a Grand Duke, but that the Grand Duke was generous, that they would remain free but that their life would soon improve. Sinop's people discovered suddently that they were now Marslavan citizens, while their mayor, the local doctor and the pharmacist discovered that they were beys and everybody received presents such as fridges or radios from the strangers. Finally, they thought, the strangers were not so mean and the Sinopians could profit of their generosity if they could get more of those presents.
Finally Murad Kepcelek, mayor of Sinop, was happy that he could finally sign himself as Murad Bey... What was also true, however, was that the Marslavans planned to turn Sinop upside down and transform it into a major oil terminal for the products that were extracted further south, in the desert.

Statement from His Highness Ottokar I Přemysl, Grand Duke of Marslava

Following the treaty of the 19th August 20** between the Grand Duchy of Marslava and the Confederation of Middle Eastern Socialist States granting Marslava the administration and sovereignty over the city of Sinops and its harbour, the Grand Duchy of Marslava has occupied the city.
Sinop is to be become a special autonomous city of Marslava and the freedom of its inhabitants will be in any way respected.

The Official Statement of the CMESS confirms that, in concordance with the treaty, Marslava has been given authority over the city of Sinop.

OOC: Though I've PMed you about this Alberto, I thought I'd also make a public announcement here just so some of our newer players will also know. This transaction was an expansion and as such, the mapmaker (which is currently me) should be informed about this before any actual transaction within an RP takes place. Though that did not happen here, given the extremely small size of the territory being expanded into, I'm going to allow this expansion. In the future however, no matter how small the territory is, if you're expanding into an area not occupied by another nation you must contact to the mapmaker first so as to clear it with us.

Now, if you are granted a seaport/military base/etc. with another country, all you need is said country's permission and not the mapmakers.

OOC: I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the warning. :)
