OOC: I am happy to see that people are getting involved in this ! IC: The arrival of Semitistan's Special Forces was indeed great news for the Marslavans dug up in Marsoil's Aghaban installations. Probably, without any external help, they couldn't have hold out against the attackers very longtime: many Marslavans lied wounded in the infirmary and the remaining defenders had only a very limited amount of ammunitions. This was also known to the attackers, who made a last assault at the end of the night with fresh troops that had just arrived in the battlefield. The attackers were spotted and the two machineguns resumed their fire, this time trying to spare ammunitions when possible. Many of the attackers fell, to never get up again, while the wounded tried often in vain to get in a safer position. The assault, however, was not stopped by the first line and the Marslavans were forced to evacuate that position, bringing with them their heavy machineguns. The defenders, who had withdrawn in the main building, were now surrounded and knew that, after two hours of fighting, the rebels had never been closer to annihilating the Marslavans who were resisting them. That is when the Semitistani special forces finally showed up... Semitistan Two regiments of paratroopers, with their planes and helicopters had been dispatched to the Middle East in order to deal with Azzam's men once for all. Those troops, also nicknamed "the Askaris", were under the orders of Colonel Keregzy, a Slovak officers with previous experience in the desert, during the times in which Marslavans fought everywhere in the world under the Dominion's infamous banners. Those men were to coordinate with Zivkovic's forces on the ground and strike the underground network built by Azzam and possibly capture the men in order to give him to the Aghabans. Kerezgy received a radio call from Zivkovic, the bedouin. "Here is the bedouin, can you hear me ?" "Yes, here is Ahmed with his camels" "We have individuated of Azzam's underground" Zivkovic gave the coordinates to the Slovak colonel "the bedouins will open the path, but I need your Aslaris and their camels to do this job" Kerezgy replied "The Askaris are coming very soon, secure the area". At his order, two thousands men boarded their gunships and their planes to launch the final assault against Azzam. In the desert... The old man had not lied, Hozak, Jan and the others were treated fairly as long as they worked: they were decently clothed, well fed and could move as much as they liked within the rebel base. Hozak's guardians were radically different from Azzam's thugs, they had better weapons, they looked more professional and decisively less thuggish. This was an army, thought Hozak, who didn't exclude that those men were the same who equipped Azzam with weapons and vehicles - perhaps was Azzam's just a part of a greater organization that spanned across the Middle East ? Hozak didn't know and didn't have the time to investigate: right now his captors ordered him to follow them to one of Marsoil's construction sites that had just been "secured". The workers lied dead when Hozak and other engineers entered the site. Hiding their disgust for what had happened, they proceeded to examine the technology used by Marsoil while Hozak told them how to use it so to steal the resources that his connationals were extracting. The engineers, and the soldiers of Eretz-Zion, were learning quickly....

Following the cleanup around the TAE encampment, the officers reported back to their superiors that the sector was cleared of combatants -a fact confirmed by extensive aerial and satellite reconnaissance. The remaining troops stationed at TAE were informed however that there was ongoing fighting at the Marslavan operation, which was enduring a much more forceful attack, and that Semitistani special operations were headed into the area to assist. Meanwhile, on the desert border, a preliminary security force was preparing to deploy into the desert and set up a permanent base of operations. Four infantry divisions, a light armor battalion, and an air assault brigade were being diverted. Once they made their home in the desert, all foreign military forces were to be expelled per Aghaban law, which would also be enforced as the rule of the land. Plans for the annexation of the oil-rich swath of desert territory were now finalized by legislators in Al-Adib, and with the security forces' deployment, all that would remain would be the acknowledgment of the extended border by the international community. |

Faris Hassassian was leading the two squads sent to help the Marslavans, a group of 24 in total. They entered the one building that was occupied by the Marslavans in the cover of dark amidst the occassional gunfire and thankfully, no one was hurt. Inside, the rooms were filled with injured and tired soldiers still standing their ground bravely. Hassassian quickly offered his greetings. He consulted a man looking through night-vision binoculars out of a window, very carefully and quietly in a separate dark room. It was chaos because he didn't know who was in charge, but the man seemed responsible enough. As he was informed of the situation, he sent off two of his men with first aid kits, while the others were given their positions. Every few seconds, spates of gun fire would rain on the building itself and the windows, and the men quickly learned why everyone was half crouched all the time. Six of the men were carrying extra ammunition, as much as they could carry, for the Marslavans to use as well. But when they got into position and settled in, they started to slowly but surely turn this siege into a proper battle once more, a battle which they looked like they will win if they persevered until the Askaris arrived. |

Semitistan Isma'il Shihadi, the head of the ministry of intelligence brooded, over the most recent findings of the operation. He looked down at the picture of Shlomo Ben-Yehuda with all of the details. He thought that this man was done with...driven underground. But the man who took the mantle of leading Eretz Zion was active as ever. After sneaking out to the desert south of Semitistan he established himself and set up links with the local tribes as well as Azzam himself. The nationalist separatist Jews who went North were nothing but a distraction for him... It all made sense now. |

Things were starting to heat up quickly in the deserts: on one hand the Aghabans were preparing a vigorous intervention, while on the other Azzam's men were engaged in a desperate offensive against the Marslavan oil fields. This goes without mentioning the involvement of Semitistan and the arrival of the askaris, in truth two regiments of Marslavan paratroopers, in the desert. The Askaris forces had been divided in two: one one side one battalion would relieve Marsoil, lift the siege and cut the retreat of Azzam's forces. They were supported by few Hind helicopter gunships, they would cut the rebels into pieces. The other force, the biggest of the two, was composed by 1500 paratroopers, with all the necessary helicopters and air support by few Albatros ground attack planes. This force was to join Zivkovic's bedouins, destroy Azzam's uynderground network once for all and possibly capture Azzam himself. A convoy of battle worn fighters on a pickup approached quickly a dune, which opened to reveal a passage leading to Azzam's underground network. The vehicles were the ones of the rebel, but the fighters who were not, even if they looked like Azzam's men. They were in fact the bedouins of Zivkovic; the passage was already opened when the guards realized their mistake, only to be silenced by the Marslavans who had sprung out the convoy. The entrance was secured. Zivkovic's men then pushed forward, using the short timespan between their entrance and the arrival of the askaris to secure the greatest possible amount of space. It's only when the Marslavan helicopters came in the Albatros annhilated the rebel patrols, that Azzam's people realized that something was wrong. Reinforcements were sent to the surface, but were intercepted by Zivkovic's men and pushed back at the cost of great losses. In the meantime the paratroopers could secure a landing area and deploy their equipment. It was matter of minutes before they joined the fight with their heavier equipment. The other detachment progressed quickly toward the location of the siege. There, the Marslavans had been reinforced by the Semitistani special forces and they were holding better against the fire of the rebels, ensuring a situation of stalemate. The Marslavan helicopters came quickly on the rebels, who could find no cover, and suffered horrendous losses under the fire of the gunships' machineguns and missiles. The paratroopers came later and finished off the retreating forces, who surrendered. This had happened while the rebels' first line was engaged in a last assault against Marsoil's installation, but they too heard the noise of the helicopters pounding those who had been unlucky enough to encounter them. At that point they stopped and dropped their weapons, to become prisoners of Marslava's forces. To say the truth this was unexpected by the askaris, who thought that the battle would last longer and that they would take no prisoners. The Marslavans had indeed no idea of what they could do with them, should they be transported to Sinop or be given to the Aghabans so that they meet their end ? |

While some stayed behind in the building, the soldiers who had been besieged rushed out with the Askari divisions and the helicopters backing them up, approaching the prisoners carefully. Faris Hassassian was warned that these militias were likely to be trained by Eretz-Zion, and therefore they may have similar tactics. He shouted: "Approach each and everyone of them slowly. Some could be strapped with bombs!" His translator repeated the command in broken Marslavan twice until he was sure that most of the soldiers got it. And so they did approach them. However the Marslavans were taken aback by how the Semitistani forces investigated and subjugated the prisoners. Some saw how Hassassian and his men shot a man in the leg when he was suspected of being strapped with a bomb, but it had turned out that none of them were in the end. The prisoners were then taken away for interrogation; one by one they were led to the Marslavan complex and their weapons were confiscated for future inspection. With the end of it all, Hassassian awaited further order from S.S.4 Headquarters and his squad tended to the injured, both their own and that of the Marslavans... |

At the crack of dawn, the expeditionary force began its journey. The largest mobilization of Aghaban troops outside of its own borders since moving into the former Hallistar - or what now composed Eastern Aghaba. Colonel Adel Ibn-Malluk was among the troops, though in a far less grand position than he was expecting. Major General al-Haboush was leading this venture under the guidance of the Foreign and Defense ministries. The territory was critical in ensuring Agahaba's economic future and regional stability: The less lawless waste, the better, in the eyes of decision-makers. Posted Image The fighting at Marsoil had concluded. AIA (Aghaban Intelligence Agency) sources within the Marsoil institution reported back on the state of affairs there, including S.S.4. effectiveness among other things. Aghaban federal authorities reached an agreement with the Marslavans to take custody of all rebel prisoners - as wanted enemies of the state. Intelligence sharing with Semitistan had paid off greatly, as Azzam's partnership with the Eretz Zion separatists was completely unbeknownst to the AIA. While it was true that Azzam had mostly faded from the memory of most Aghabans by now, the credit for his kill or capture would likely result in a significant promotions. Duty takes precedence however, and AIA leadership clearly recognized that between the Marslavan Askaris in pursuit and now a vested interest by the Marslavans, Alexei Azzam's removal from the most wanted list was imminent. Aghaba's borders would be safer regardless of who took credit. |

The construction of the base was swift and efficient as labor was in high supply. It was from here that civilian expansion was to form, but until the bureaucrats could organize themselves, the military controlled this swathe of territory. They had deployed from Chouiefat and crossed the empty desert with speed, maintaining a stable supply line. Civilian contractors worked along with the ground forces' engineers tirelessly to ensure quick progress. While hired under contract by the Aghaban government, the Marslavans were now required to obtain official documentation and identification as they were considered to be working under Aghaban federal jurisdiction. This also meant that the Marslavan security personnel were to be relieved and their duties transferred to the Aghaban military. Colonel Ibn Malluk reminded himself to present Jan Nemec with a token of appreciation before his dismissal - perhaps his sidearm, maybe an honorary rank... Now that there was a substantial Aghaban presence in the oil rich desert, the Colonel wondered if General al-Haboush was contemplating involving the men further north with the Semitistanis... Fort Gol'em Fort Gol'em was an outpost on the south Semitistani border. And it was there that the Semitistani Army was amassing, preparing for a possible offensive at the southern deserts. But first, they had to wait while the S.S.4 sent out it's reconnaissance squads to try and pinpoint significant concentrations of Azzam's men. More importantly, and unknown to the rest of the military, the S.S.4 were also looking for any possible trace of Shlomo Ben-Yehuda, a figurehead of Eretz Zion and possible player in Azzam's little game. This operation was strictly between the special forces and the ministry of intelligence which have been growing very close as of late... Some of the soldiers, however, have also heard talk of permanent territorial acquisition in the southern desert among their leaders... |

Things were qucikly starting to heat up as the Marslavan paratroopers, or the askaris, made their assault against Azzam's underground compound. Zivkovic's men had opened a passage and were resisting against the rebels who tried to retake the entrance; it was of vital importance that the entrance be held by the Marslavans so to allow the arrival of reinforcements. Indeed only once the askaris would be inside the huge underground compound the Maslavans could say that the odds were in their favour. The Albatros ground attack planes made their runs against the rebel patrols that tried to come back to defend the position from the askaris. The rebels were being pushed back at the price of big losses, with the sands of the desert providing no cover against the fire coming from above. In the open ground the Marslavan advantage was considerable. But inside the underground HQ of the rebels Zivkovic's men, around two-hundreds soldiers, were exchanging a very intense fire against Azzam's men, who attacked with rage and didn't spare ammunitions. Losses were heavy on both sides: the rebels had a clear numeric advantage, but the "bedouins" from Marslava were better equipped and were better shooters. Azzam's men would have made wonderful fighters if only they had received a better training... At last the first assault was repelled, but Zivkovic was not sure that he could stand another one. That's when the first company of paratroopers entered the compound, the tired rebels were quickly pushed back; now, as the numbers of Marslavans increased, the attackers could advance inside the compound but this didn't mean an easy victory. The underground rooms had to be cleansed from rebel presence and every room was heavily fought for. The askaris would throw their grenades before entering but this didn't suffice and often ensued close quarters fighting, with the two sides using their knives. In Azzam's prisons, a group of rebels was ambushed and neutralized by the fire of a machine-gun. Zivkovic's men came out of the darkness and freed the prisoners, proceeding to arm them so to increase the confusion in the compound. They found two Marslavans who had been captured together with Hozak. When interrogated they said they were sure that Hozak had been sold to a wealthy patron in the north. All around Azzam's underground empire was unraveling.... At last one of the two Albatros fighters spotted a group of pick-ups emerging from the sands, they signalled it to the HQ which sent two gunships. It was thought that Azzam may be in one of those vehicles, together with his leading officers... |

The offensive south of the border started, but there were orders to hold onto the South Western most part of the desert. A strip of desert was to become permanent territory for the Federation of Semitistan. Posted Image The army surged forth into the sands from Fort Gol'em, eliminating any hostiles they came across or taking them prisoner. It was a ruthless offensive to expand Semitistan further and make the message clear to Azzam, the Federation of Semitistan is not playing a game. It never was, and it never will... Northern Deir-Al-Zwar in the CMESS security zone. Shlomo Ben-Yehuda had just made it into the northern part of the city, the part that belonged to the CMESS and not Semitistan. The wind was cold and bitter, biting through his clothes, and it was only the cold of the deserts that seemed to do that. The cobbled streets of the old city were beautiful, but marred by the presence of CMESS security forces and checkpoints. For now, he was safe but he had to keep moving. He had heard of the terrible losses of Azzam's men, but they were just a sacrifice for the greater goal of Eretz-Zion. Now that the news of the slow but sure collapse of the Roman Empire came, he wanted to rally the cells and his men that were left behind. He wanted to prepare so that they could seize upon the Empire's collapse as an opportunity. But he himself could not operate in Semitistan any longer. The plan to amass an army between Aghaba and Semitistan has to be forgotten, and now it was more about patience than anything else. A warm hat covered his balding head, and he stroked his ever growing stubble as he walked the streets in contemplation, heading straight for a safe house... |

Day-Al-Zwar, CMESS Syrian Security District, the next morning A line of cars honked their horns and many small time merchants and peddlers sold their wares to the tired thirsty people in the security queue. Today was a slow day at Checkpoint 12, one of the busiest checkpoints in the city. Everything seemed tense to the Turkish MPs. There was a certain static in the air. The MPs were trying to search everything that moved, it seemed. Maybe it was the fear of being reassigned to the Prussian front in Europe. Maybe it was the news from the South. Either way, it was obvious that something was about to happen. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Jacob Ben-Ami sat nervous in the truck. They were just around the corner from the checkpoint. The man in the driver's seat turned to him. "Are you ready?" He whispered. Jacob nodded. He knew they were acting independently from the main organization of Eretz Zion. He gripped his rifle. The back of the van opened and a squad of men in Semitistani military uniforms leapt from the vehicle and ran into the nearest buildings. They got into position at the windows and other crannies... ____________________________________________________________________________________ The first burst of fire saw one of the Confederate soldiers drop the ground. The surprise caused a massive panic among the MPs at the checkpoint as some dropped, jumped, or simply fled for the nearest piece of cover. The ensuing anarchy saw people jump from their cars into the street, running to alleyways and stores. The same vendors shouting about teas and soups huddled behind their carts. The firefight claimed many. By the time the fighting had ceased, soldiers on both sides were dead, as well as many innocents. Confederate backup arrived and investigated the attackers. Many gritted their teeth and swore under their breaths at Semitistan. Meanwhile, at command, officers debated back and forth. Something didn't add up. Motives were off. Many prayed that the government of Semitistan had some explanation, a reason to why those young men had to die... Edited by Margrave, Dec 9 2012, 01:01 AM.

The small transfer area between Checkpoint 12 and Checkpoint 13, a technical "no man's land" between Semitistan and the CMESS, was hauntingly empty. At Checkpoint 13, Semitistani soldiers waited with nerves racked, poised for anything that might happen. They wondered where their general, Isamov Ivanovich, was as they waited in the deathly silence. It was like that ever since they heard the incident that happened at Checkpoint 12. And then the military jeep came thundering down the road. It halted by the gates, and then...General Ivanovich stepped out. Almost nothing was left of his short cropped grey hair, and his face was hard, cold and unforgiving. When a soldier climbed down after him to open an umbrella above his head he held his shoulder without a look. "I like the rain" - he said with a dry voice. The gentle drizzle pattered on his uniform on this dark, grey day. He strode with two guards besides him into the middle of the square between Checkpoint 12 and Checkpoint 13. Only, none of them were armed to show a sign of peace. He stopped almost exactly in the middle, staring at the CMESS security forces. "This is General Isamov Ivanovich, of the Syrian Wilds Division! I am here, just as the CMESS requested. Unarmed and ready to talk." |

Colonel Bahri Malik Tahir stepped into the square, also unarmed. He cautiously scanned the area before speaking in a loud voice. "What has happened is unforgivable. Our two nations were allies in policing the venerable people of Syria!" He stopped for a moment. "However, we have some amount of reason. We believe these troops were not acting on behalf of your nation, or something else entirely is going on." With that he stopped speaking, and listened to the pitter patter of the rain while he waited for a response. |

Isamov wasn't going to stand there, expecting himself and Colonel Tahir to should back and forth, like two knights in a medieval battlefield. He ordered the nearest building cleared and secured before arriving, and so he shouted back. "On my word, from soldier to soldier, I invite you over so that we can talk and discuss in detail what has happened so that we may find an answer together. We have always benefited from our relationship, and I hope that you can see that to ruin it makes no sense whatsoever." And then he gave a Semitistani salute, with his left fist over the right side if his chest. It was not upon his heart, which spoke of emotion and sentiment, but over the caverns of his lungs. Hollow, only filled with the air of duty and purpose. |

More far in the north the construction of the world's greatest pipeline was continuing, painfully. A mysterious organization was multiplying its attacks, followed by the the theft of material and resources. The Marslavan intelligence services reported alarmingly that this was the base of an important illegal economy and that the new profits coming from oil thefts would soon be turned into new weapons, new vehicles and more recruits fighting for the region's warlords. This attack in particular hadn't succeeded,; however: the attackers had encountered a Marslavan patrol and had fled, leaving twl prisoners. They were held and given the following options: talk and remained with the Marslavans or refuse and be given to the Aghabans or the Semitistanis - they would not hesitate to use more violent methods. Lt Livnik was surprised by the amount of information that those two men were giving: they confirmed that Azzam had worked with another organization - Eretz Zion - and that it was that organization that was attacking the pipelines so to supply with oil all the local warlords. Livnik, by curiosity, asked if there were Marslavans among them and the prisoners replied that, yes, there was a Marslavan engineer working for Eretz Zion. Livnik thought that that man could very well be Hozak, who had disappeared for months, and transmitted the informations to his superiors in Sinop. Seemingly Azzam was not the most important enemy in the area. Closer to Aghaba, the desert had returned quiet: the underground kingdom of Azzam had been overwhelmed by the askaris. In the long tunnels shots were exchanged for quite a longtime, but the Marslavans had secured the weapons deposits, the exits and had released the many prisoners who were wiaitng outside to capture and kill those who could flee. Slowly the askaris captured the resistants who were left, evacuated everyone and, quite brutally, blew up the entire thing. Now the production of oil in Aghaba could start and the Marslavan pipeline could reach the area in the short future, while the askaris believed their mission to be over. They would be proved wrong later as they were ordered to re-deploy in Semitistan's border to act against a more dangerous enemy. In the meantime news had come of clashes between Semitistan and Aghaba on their common border.... |

It was an unexpected call, not unlike most. The 16 of them stood in the briefing room, awaiting their superiors' arrival. The board was plastered with images captured by satellite and hand-drawn diagrams. "Three in the f***in' morning with no notice? Been a while since we've had something like this," muttered one of them, rubbing his eyes. A few others shrugged as they filled styrofoam cups with drip coffee in another corner of the room. The door opened and in walked two colonels and a general. The 16 took their seats, their grogginess fading and senses finally waking. "As you can see, it's a big one," the general boomed, pointing to the image of a man on the board. "Our friend Alexei. Marslavan and Semitisani intelligence both think they have pretty good estimations of his whereabouts, and we just confirmed it ourselves." Attentiveness was 100%. "He's got nothing. Man's in the desert with 9 other guys, lightly armed, with nowhere to go. You're going to go grab Mr. Azzam, and bring him back here for us." --- The 16 comprised two fire-teams. Aghaban Special Warfare Division. It was 4AM when they were flown from the newly established base in a C-130 and made their HALO jumps roughly 2 km from Azzam's position. Just over the border, about 5 km inside the territory Semitistan had now staked a claim in. --- "Two hostiles sleeping in either truck bed. One asleep in the cabin of the damaged technical... One more asleep on the ground." "Copy Dagger. Eyes on three armed hostiles patrolling the perimeter. Two more guarding the technicals." "Iblis, hit the patrol. Approach from the north. We'll take care of the guards and will approach from the east." "Copy Dagger." "Move." --- With the five conscious threats quietly eliminated, the two teams approached the pickups where the remaining five dozed, planning a rude awakening, subsequent surrender, identification of Azzam, mop-up, and extraction. Clean and simple. "Stop. Stop, stop..." urged Iblis team leader. "West. Check it out." "Shit." "Go after them, now." Fireteam Iblis rushed as quickly and quietly as they could, weapons up, while Dagger positioned themselves around the technicals. With the figures in sight, the members of Iblis team began to take shots at their targets. They dropped in the open ground and returned fire, also suppressed. "Oh shit! Hold your fire!" --- One of the militants in the truck beds bolted upright, initiating an early plan of action. The 8 members of Dagger team began yelling at the bewildered militiamen, demanding surrender or death. Two reached for their rifles and were put down. The one in the truck cabin was pulled out and forced to the ground with the other two. All three had wet their pants, unable to see what on earth was going on in the moonlit desert. Azzam. "We have Azzam. ID on Azzam. Status Iblis?" "We've got a casualty... Youseff is KIA. Umarov is wounded. This is a clusterf***..." "Extraction's on its way. What the hell?" "S.S.4., man..." They didn't know where the men came from. They had their intelligence spot on, but nevertheless there was a mistake and they paid dearly for it. Faris Hassassian was with his squad when it happened. They were just approaching Azzam's location when they heard the commotion. And before they know it, people appeared out of nowhere and opened fire. Faris was the first to drop to the ground, while one was too slow and took a bullet to the chest. They returned fire with confidence, having been ready for anything as they were on a dangerous mission. It was only when he could just about see some of the mysterious men pull out another from one of the technicals that he told his men to stop firing, and those who were firing at them seemed to stop at the exact same time. And then he heard shouting, Arabic in the Aghaban dialect which he just about understood, and also something which he guessed was Russian too. He knew who these people were now...Aghabans, allies. And so he called out: "This is S.S.4 - Semitistani special forces. Please hold your fire, there has been a misunderstanding" It was then they all got up from the stony desert ground, frozen cold over the winter night. They did it slowly, and then trotted over to the Aghaban men to see who they had, while a few carried their wounded friend who they knew may not make it. Was it truly Azzam outside that vehicle? |

Back at the Square in Day-Al-Zwar, Bahri Malik Tahir stepped into the building. "As I said, we are not without sense, sir. We believe that this was an isolated incident, it's quite possible that these men were not even in the Semitistani military. They could be part of TO-2*, Eretz-Zion. We are afraid that the attack was a diversion, but our reconnaissance has revealed no other incidents in the city..." "General, we can turn this from a faux pas in our diplomacy into an opportunity to strengthen our ties. We need to find out who was responsible for this attack, and also why." *In the Confederate Classification System, TO stands for "Terrorist Organization." OOC: Sorry it took me so long to respond. :| |

OOC: Don't worry, life can be a busy and bothersome thing. ;) IC: "Yes, yes I do agree with your idea of using this to further cement relations between our nations. But please, take a seat, sir, and let me tell you a few things you may need to know." They sat down in the room, an abandoned office block in the square. Old and battered photocopiers surrounded them, with guards waiting just outside the door. But apart from that, the two were completely alone. They sat with nothing between them. General Isamov leaned forward in his seat, elbows resting on knees as if he was just having a conversation with a friend. "Like you said, it is possibly Eretz-Zion related." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a worn black and white photo of a bearded man. "He doesn't look like much, I know. But this man is Shlomo Ben-Yehuda, the figurehead of Eretz Zion. We have cause to believe that he has moved into the CMESS through this city. But the attack...well it is not like Eretz Zion to attack like this. I think the perpetrators were actually after him to try and kill him." Bahri Malik Tahir looked a little confused, while general Isamov exhaled as if he was about to confess. For a moment he looked embarrassed. "Having one terrorist organization within your soil is bad enough. We have two in Semitistan, twice the trouble. The A.I.M, or Arab Independence Movement is a political party that wants to gain independence for Arabs in the country at what ever cost. They and Eretz Zion have been at each other's throats since their beginnings. The problem with A.I.M is that they have a so called "military wing" which is actually a terrorist organization; they are called Al-Assasiyun, or the Assassins...not to be confused with the Assassin Nation in Asia of course." Malik Tahir looked concerned, and he asked "So why haven't we heard of them before?" Isamov chuckled at the question, "they are called Assassins for a reason. Al-Assasiyun, or "followers of the principle" as it is translated from Arabic, do follow one principle after all. That is of deceit and sowing discord, just as they had done with this attack. I bet they were trying to catch Ben-Yehuda and hit two birds with one stone, but I fear he is deep into the CMESS by now. "But all of this, of course, is just a theory. We still need to collect evidence." |

"The problem is," Tahir said "we've been searching continuously since the incident for any evidence, to no avail." Tahir sent an aide out to announce the situation defused, and for his troops to stand down. "We need to combine our investigations, in order to find the perpetrators of this crime. We are combing the sands of North Syria searching for any members of Eretz-Zion, and I will personally report back to Trabzon with news of possible AIM involvement. We will find them." Tahir said with confidence. |

General Isamov smiled. Well, it was the closest thing to a smile he had on this solemn face. "We are glad that you will be doing your best. My forces are combing Semitistan and this city to try and find anyone with links, and our intelligence agency will be doing the same. Meanwhile, we will step up security at this checkpoints. I propose having a portable cabin as an office in between Checkpoint 12 and Checkpoint 13 where members of our forces and intelligence can frequently meet to share information on this matter. How does that sound?" Somewhere in Deir-Al-Zour Hassan Ibn-Al-Sabbah chuckled with his raspy voice upon hearing the news. "Ah, idiots. We were hoping to hit two birds with one stone, but the bastard Shlomo escaped and now security will be heightened here. Oh well, a few meagre lives can be replaced." Abdullah shifted uneasily. Hassan was by no means a genius, but he also seemed unhinged and not quite right. He has done his best to serve as his envoy and messenger just so he doesn't go on a mission that is doomed to failure. Many times he has had objections to Hassan's plans, but he would not speak out. But this has gotten too much for him, and so he stuttered in his lowest and shakiest voice while getting down on one knee: "Permission to speak freely my Lord?" Hassan roared with a thunderous laughter that startled Abdullah and almost stopped his heart. He thought how the guards must be smiling to themselves outside, thinking of what could possibly make Lord Ibn-Al-Sabbah laugh so much. "Rise! Rise! Please, don't do this Abdullah. I was waiting for a time that you would grow a nice big sack of hairy balls between those spindly legs" Abdullah felt a surge of blood going to his cheeks and he rose in embarrassment and with the lowest voice said. "My lord, you are very wise and bold. And it is probably not my place to say it and if you wish to not listen then it is absolutely-" "Out with it Abdullah, spare me the boot licking" "Erm...it is just that I doubt that we can sow discord among two organized armies in such a manner. General Isamov made such a show of things and managed to pull it all together. With the higher security, conducting any operations here will be a great risk. Shlomo Ben-Yehuda is probably well on his way to Trebizond if not already there by now so we cannot wait for too long before we risk losing him. We have no idea where he might go next, unless he decides to stay in Trebizond-" "I know what you are trying to say Abdullah, and I have good news for you. Yes...we will be creating a cell dedicated to the destruction of Shlomo Ben-Yehuda and any allies he might have. And it will be based in Trebizond." Abdullah looked surprised but said nothing, so Hassan carried on "I know what you think, Abdullah. You have a softer heart than mine. Those previous operations were solely for rooting out the weak from the strong. They only seemed pointless and risky to you, but it made the weak among us desert in the end...and it was good sport catching them and making an example of them, HA!" Yes...example. He always so the rope room when he closed his eyes. A massive walk in freezer where men were hang up like meat with nooses about their necks. All dead, their eyes glazed and staring into nothingness. And without a word, Abdullah turned on his heels and set about making preparations. Edited by Semitistan, Jan 5 2013, 03:19 PM.

Tal Afar was the only thing that could be called town in the Persian Wilds. The centre thrived becaue it was where war lords, terrorists and criminals sold and purchased their resources. Ahmed had been caught by the Marslavan information services while trying to sell Marslavan weapons in a discrete corner of the city. Blackmailed and bribed by the Marslavans, he had accepted to cooperate and give them the name of his suppliers and other informations. Ahmed met with three Marslavans in the outskirts of Tal Afar, where the town vanished and the dunes started. The three Marslavans were dressed in the local way, two were part of that infamous brigade, Zivkovic's Bedouins. The third was Klement, the man who had discovered him, convinced him to collaborate and paid him. "Last time " started Klement "you told us of two Marslavans working in the complex which supplied you with Marslavan goods" Ahmed recalled that conversation, he had seen two Marslavan engineers who were "guests" of Eretz Zion and forced to work for their purposes. "Yes" replied Ahmed "they are present every time I am given the barrels of oil that I am going to sell in the black market". The expression black market was funny, because in Tal Afa there was no proper economy, just the black market. "The pictures you provided us are clear, I need you to tell me again who all these people are". Ahmed went thorugh again, indicating whow as the leader, who the enforcers, who the officers, and who the troops. The names were written again, they would be transmitted to Sinop. "Is there anything else ?" "Yes" said Ahmed "in three days the complex will be visited by... investors. That's all what I know". The investors may have been either terrorists, thought Klement, or businessmen who liked to stray in illegality. The smuggled Marslavan oil was cheaper than the one found in the European markets and it was sometime convenient to go on place to buy the barrels.... Ahmed was paid a lot of good money for these informations and he was let go as a wealthy man. These informations made their way to Sinop, and to the Marslavan troops based in Semitistan. There, a new offensive was being prepared ad Ahmed's informations were helping to establish which targets would be attacked first. It was believed that in that refuge close to Tal Afar, Eretz Zion was to meet with other warlords and terrorists. This was an opportunity to seize important enemies and siorganize the response that they cold give to a Marslavan offensive. Moreover, Marslavan citizens were detained in that place. This made doubly important that the complex of Eretz Zion be attacked and liberated by the Marslavan forces. From Sinop, the informations were sent to Prague, then the orders were given to Sinop and, quickly, they made their way to the Persian Wilds. A regiment of paratroopers was deployed and the Askaris were held in standby, while Zivkovic's Beduins were to start a raid against Eretz Zion. |

This would be the first major operation done under the banners of the TRT, but not the first that the Marslavans had done in this area. However, the scale of the forces deployed was unseen. The Marslavans, over a period of few hours, would deploy one armoured brigade, one regiment of paratroopers, one battalion of chasseurs. To this had to be added the troops which were alrady present in this area: first of all the Askaris, and then Zivkovic's bedouins. The total size of this force reached 10.000 men. The Marslavans would not act alone: the Allied States of Arv had decided to contribute 20.000 troops to the fight. However, there was some wariness on whether the Arvans were going to deliver or not what they promissed. The Arvans, reckoned the Marslavan commanding officers, were good fighters, but they were not used to put together such an operation at such a long distance from their territory. The Bedouins would be the first unit to enter in action. Posing as locals, they would start to attack the convoys of the local warlords allied to Eretz Zion. In this they were to be supported by the Marslavan air force, which would supply them with information and air support. Few hours later the armoured brigade and the Askaris were to entered in action. The plan was to have the Marslavans on one side and the Arvans on the other to press Eretz Zion and its allies into a smaller and a smaller territory, until they could be easily vanquished by the superiority of the two states' armies. In the middle, the Bedouins were to execute quick attacks to confuse the enemy. The paratroopers and chasseurs would ensure the protection of the Velikaya pipeline and intervene if Arvans - or the Marslavans were to faulter. On the Marslavan side, the commander in charge was General Vlastimil Picek. Recognizing the importance of this operation, the Marslavan Armed Forces had considered to be essential to dispatch one of Marslava's best generals to supervise the operation. General Picek had at his disposal good troops, decent supply lines and technical superiority. But he had to deliver, and quickly; because those troops were going to be needed somewhere else in Europe. Picek had planned a first phase of air raids and attacks by Zivkovic's Bedouins. To this second phase, after few days, was to succeed the real offensive made by the bulk of the Marslavan forces. Tal Afar, Persian Wilds Attacking the workers of the Velikaya pipeline had become difficult. Those Marslavan dogs had deployed snipers. Luckily, it was not Eretz Zion who engaged in attacking the pipeline and stealing al what could be found there. This was done by local allies who were paid to do so. However, having faced incredible losses, the locals had refused to take their old rifles and attack the Marslavan dogs. It was simply too dangerous. The fighters of Eretz Zion were extremely skilled, but they were not more than few thousands. However, the theft of oil and other Marslavan commodities was the lifeline which allowed Eretz Zion to survive in the area. The leadership of Eretz Zion was well aware of this and knew that staying in this area was not viable anymore. Finally, the leadership of Eretz Zion was certain that the T.R.T was up to something. It decided that it would strike to open a passage and escape to the east in the very next hours. Hopefully a strong attack made by the majority of Eretz Zion's fanatical fighters would take the Marslavans off-guard and, before they could react, Eretz Zion would vanish in the mountains at the east of the Persian Wilds. To Eretz Zion, indeed, this territory was not important: luckily the Middle East had many impoverished areas which could host them and many impoverished people who could be their accomplices. Despite this, this plan was doomed to failure because it was based on a gross underestimation of the forces deployed. OOC: I wair for ASA and anyone else to join in and write a post about their forces Edited by Alberto, Apr 16 2013, 05:39 AM.
