"I'm leaving at 1 o'clock, today." said Eternal Ruler Muhammad Al-Judidi into a cell phone. He was leaving the palace to catch a plane, a private 747. An older model, but one of his favorite. This flight would put the country, his country, on the map.

He strolled toward the Grand Hall, the entrance to his realm of splendor and excess is a wasteland of grey mediocrity and despair. "Sir, before you go, there is a message from the Chinese government." An attendant said, snickering. "They want their money back!" He could barely finish the sentence before howling with laughter. The Eternal Ruler narrowed his eyes." You know as well as I that, right now, we are a Chinese Puppet State. But this meeting may chage that." He smirked as he said it. Then he slowly reached under his military coat and pulled out the keys to his limousine. He through them to his chauffeur, and they walked out the door.

The attendant walked beside him, reading off messages, most of them uninteresting to the Eternal Leader. "Ugh, shut up!" He declared. "Go bother one of the advisers about it." The attendant look surprised, and little hurt, but he did as he was told. Al-Judidi opened the door to his limousine, glancing at the flags on the hood, above the headlights. He loved that flag, it had so much history in it. He crouched into the car, accidentally bumping his left arm. "Gah!" He yelped. His arm had this way ever since that tetanus infection that lone imperial marine had given him, years before his country had been founded. Back when Asia minor was still considered barbarous. During a skirmish with Byzantine forces, a marine had thrust a bayonet at a soldier, only for him to jump out the way and hit a teenaged Al-Judidi. It had gotten infected, but his arm survived. It was still very stiff, and felt like it was sore around the joints, but it was manageable. The limousine and it's motorcade proceeded to start the journey to the airport.

The Eternal Leader sat in the back seat, the speakers blasting old heavy metal music. He was listening to Sabaton when they got there, and when the back door opened everyone got a surprise blasting of "Primo Victoria" as Al-Judidi waltz out of the car and straight onto the tarmac. He had a fighter escort waiting, clearly an affront to Byzantium to show he wasn't afraid of them. He arm ached as it dangled limply by his side, remembering the feeling of the bayonet as it sliced flesh and sinew. He shuttered.

They boarded the 747 and prepped for take off. The two fighters went up first, to join another 2 fighters that would escort the flying giant of a plane. The pilot chartered a course for Byzantium, and announced the flight would take one and a half, maybe two hours. Muhammad Al-Judidi snicked to himself, this plan had to be fool proof! He would stroll into the Emperor's Palace, and tell him to recognize the independence of CMESS.

He would, wouldn't he? For the first time, the thought had crossed his mind that maybe he wouldn't say yes. What if he invaded the Turkish Terriories!? Al-Judidi calmed himself, knowing that wouldn't happen.

It still bothered him to the point where he called off the fighters halfway through the flight. Finally they had arrived in Istanbul. Most people called it Constantinople now, but he still referred to it as Istanbul, as did many of the Turks living in the Confederacy.

The plane landed at a nearby airport, and they loaded his limousine off the plane. An airport official ran up to him. "What do you think your doing!? Dropping a plane on an airfield unannounced is dangerous, you know!" Muhammad slapped the man for his ignorance. He looked visibly angry, but walked away, muttering something in Latin into his radio. Or was it Greek? He didn't know, and frankly, he didn't care. He boarded his limousine and they drove to the Emperors palace. The sight of it made Muhammad Al-Judidi, the Glorius and Eternal Leader, feel small, and insignificant. He walked to what looked like front gate, only to be turned away by the guards. He knew he couldn't slap them. "I demand to see the Emperor right this instant! I am a sovereign and a leader of a nation!" He screeched. The guards looked surprised, but allowed to enter the palace. After walking like what seem like forever, he plopped down in the first chair he found, and waited.

OOC: Hi there, and welcome again! Just for your information, I wanted to clarify a few OOC (Out of Character) things before responding to your post. Our forum has had a lot of history. While you are free to design the history of your nation the way you like, you should know that before I captured Constantinople, it had been ruled by Catholic Europe, in which it was called Genesis City. For a long time, Genesis City was the center of world Catholicism.

IC: After some time, Theodore Aldebaran stepped into the antechamber to greet the Turkish leader. Al-Judidi's arrival had caused quite a flutter, and as it turned out, Lord Aldebaran was the senior diplomat present in Constantinople at the time. He himself had only recently returned home from Toledo, where he had been observing ICON meetings. Coming out, he approached Al-Judidi in his chair.

"Greetings, your grace, I am Theodore Aldebaran, and I represent His All-Supreme Majesty the Emperor Constantine Monomachus. The emperor is not currently present in the city. He is in Damascus meeting with the Scythirians and the Royal Kasnyians in order to settle the Caspian Sea Dispute. The Chancellor, Thomas Rangabe, is currently in Ishal in Semitistan, meeting with the Semitistanis. I will receive you in my conference room if it pleases you."

OOC- Thanks for the clarification, is there a thread where I can read the entire history of the forum? A link would much appreciated.

"Oh." said Al-Judidi, disappointed. He had hoped for a very dramatic affair. But the situation in the Caspian Sea was an important issue he supposed. "Well, the council chamber will be fine then."

He wondered if the emperor somehow knew he was coming, and left just to disappoint him. "No, that's nonsense." He said under his breath, thinking aloud.

He reaching into his pocket and pulled out a pack of tobacco cigarettes. "I have two questions for you, sir." He said as they walked towards the chamber.

"Is smoking allowed in this room, and if so, would you like one?"

OOC: Unfortunately there is no one thread that covers the whole history of the forum. We have tried to get a project together a few times, but have been unsuccessful. There is a lot of history, and it can be daunting for new comers. My advice is not to worry too much about it right now - I and others can clarify things for you when necessary. ^^ But, once you have settled in a bit and you are curious, you can 1) post questions in General Discussion, and 2) read old threads if any catch your attention. But for now, just have fun and try to get used to our forum! :)

IC: Lord Aldebaran smiled, "Certainly, thank you very much."

Aldebaran took his lighter out of his coat pocket. First he offered to light Al-Judidi's cigeratte. After that, he lit his own. As he lead the Turkish Leader to the chamber, he stopped occassionally to point out various pieces of art or other interesting sights in the palace.

Finally, they entered the chamber. He invited Al-Judidi to sit down, and asked a servant to bring refreshments. After he had seen to that, he himself sat down.

"Your Grace," Lord Aldebaran began, "I hope I can make your visit comfortable. Refreshments will be brought out shortly. I would have been better prepared, but I had not expected your visit. Nevertheless, we are pleased to see you, as the empire has been monitoring the recent developments in your country, and the time is ripe for a diplomatic meeting."

Muhammad Al-Judidi took at seat. "To be honest, I was hoping for it to be a surprise. I wanted it to be dramatic, and speak to the Emperor himself." He shrugged "That doesn't matter, I suppose. Let's get down to business."

He puffed his cigarette once or twice before continuing. "As you know, in 1453, the Byzantine Empire fell to the Ottoman Turks. Now the Byzantine empire has been reformed, but not the Ottoman. My wish is to create a new Ottoman State, but I don't want these two great empires to go down the same path." He paused, collecting his thought. "In order to start our foreign relations off on a positive note, I hope you and your emperor will recognize the independence of my nation, the Confederacy of the Middle Eastern Socialist States. I have the Easternmost parts of Anatolia as my own, and I am hoping to push Westward. I ask that, in addition to recognizing CMESS as a sovereign entity, you also refrain from advancing inland anymore than you already have."

He felt stupid inside for making such a demand, but the representative seemed friendly so far, so he reasoned his response would be in his favor.

"I do not wish for conflict either," Lord Aldebaran responded, "And I believe that our nations do not need to come into conflict. However, while my master the emperor would happy to recognize your sovereignty, he would look at askance on me if I were to simply cede to you a protectorate more than twice the size of your country.

"Not so long ago, the lords of the Eastern Counties were vassals of the Roman Empire, and they dominated Anatolia. But they have fallen. The Roman Empire cannot promise not to secure their former lands. However, I will offer you a lesser recognition. As long as your country is safe and stable, and as long as the rights of Orthodox Christians are recognized and protected, the Empire will be willing to support you in Anatolian matters. However, we reserve the right to intervene in the case of any instability or crisis. Furthermore, the Empire's trading and economic rights should be recognized. If those conditions are met, the Empire would happily support your Confedaracy's expansion in Anatolia."

"Very well." Muhammad Al-Judidi smiled, relaxing into the chair. "The Confederacy is very stable, and I am glad to allow you the right to not only to operate in the area, but in my borders, should the need arise. Free passage, if you will. That goes for traders and civilians as well."

"As for the Christians, I understand there is a crusade going on in Christendom, is there not?" Al-Judidi said.
"Tell the Emperor that should he rallies his forces against the papacy, my armies shall reinforce his own... My government has no say in religious matters, but, to me at least, it seems that's what the Catholics cares about. One man telling everyone how to worship their god." He sighed.

"I must be leaving soon, I'm afraid." Al-Judidi said, standing up. "Would you mind showing me the way to the door?" He grinned, knowing he would get lost for an eternity if he tried to leave alone.

Lord Aldebaran nodded, "Thank you, Your Grace, the emperor will pleased to know that, and should the situation with the Catholics escalate, we will contact you to coordinate action. And I would be delighted to help you back to the airfield."

He guided his guest through the intricate halls of the palace before seeing him off. Before the two parted, Lord Aldebaran said his good-bye, "Your Grace, it has been a pleasure meeting you. I will convey your greetings to the emperor, and hopefully, you will have the chance to visit again when he is in residence."

"Goodbye, Mr. Aldebaran." Said Al-Judidi. "My time here was magnificent. Thank you."

He waved as he left the car to board his plane.

"Best of luck in your future endeavors."

The flight back to the Confederacy was relaxed and lazy. Al-Judidi took a short nap before they arrived, but awoke during the landing. After the landing, Muhammad Al-Judidi was approached by one of his attendants.

"Sir, Adviser Yidal has a treaty ready for you to sign. It's with Semitistan."

"Very well." said Al-Judidi. "Very well."
