Mordechai sat in the back of the van, it was three in the morning, hot and he was tired. The headphones made him hotter and felt uncomfortable, but no amount of discomfort was stopping him from nodding off and waking back up again.

The crackling noise and dial tone sprang up out of nowhere and he jumped in his seat, fully aware. Someone is using the phone that they have bugged, after four days of silence. Someone answered...

"Shalom aliechem"

"Shalom aliechem, Baruch. I hope you're alright"

"Yeah, yeah everything is good here, Alex. Just getting ready to pay a visit to Judea and Samaria in the Roman Empire"

"Ah yeah, I heard about that. When are you planning to..." - A tell tale pause, they were speaking in code - "...leave?"

Mordechai turned to his partner next to him, also listening in. He glanced at her and she nodded, they were thinking the same thing. The conversation
carried on.
"In about a week's time. I think we should meet up for a coffee before, tell me if there is any souvenirs you want from there or something, Alex!"

Alex laughed heartily. "Ah I will come back to you on that one. These late night shifts at work are really taking it out of me. Listen, I have to go now,
break is over, but we will talk soon, yes?"

"Oh sure no problem. Shalom"

"Shalom" *click*

Mordechai's partner nodded again in confirmation, and he whispered a command into his mic. A few blocks away, a black van pulled over, non-uniformed S.S.4
operatives spilling out. They ran silently in the dead streets of Ishal and into a tower block, straight for their goal. They kicked down a door with a crash and
inside this bland and almost empty apartment, Alex sat smoking and relaxing before standing up in panic. One of the men gave him a swift and calculated blow
to his chin, knocking him down. He felt strong arms grip him and carry him away as he tried to recover. The hot breeze outside washed over his face before he
knew it, and he realized he was looking at a black, cloudless sky.

EDIT: My first story on here...what do you guys think?

Alex sat in the darkened room somewhere. He had been blind folded, driven, dragged and dropped here. He had no idea where he was and fear gripped him. Anything could happen, anything, and no one would no.

A man entered the room.Greying hair cut short and in a military uniform, his nose looked bent, as if broken many times, and he had sharp angular features. Dark blue eyes popped out of his sockets, giving him a strung up look. He seated himself opposite, clasping his hands together resting his elbows on the table. He said, matter of factly.

"Alex Silverstein, of 32A Shomer Flats, Ishal. This is probably the first, and last time you will see me. I am Lieutenant Faris Fulman of the S.S.4. Tell me, Alex. Do you know what the S.S.4 is?"

Alex was confused, and in his fear, answered without delay all that he knew and heard about them.

"Semitistan Section 4, you are intelligence and special forces."

Faris smiled crookedly and said.

"Do you know why you are here, Alex?"

Alex shook his head, putting on the most innocent and confused face that a man could. Not hard with a man like Faris sitting opposite.

Faris stood up, and walked behind Alex, towering just over him. He said once again.

"Do you know why you are here, Alex?"

This time Alex responded with words, to make himself clear.

"No, I - "

Before he could finish the sentence he felt Faris' strong hand on the back of his head, forcing it down and smacking it hard against the desk. And then the chair was pulled back furiously and he went sprawling on the hard concrete floor. Before he could come to, he heard Faris speak, as quiet and threatening and ever.

"Now, let's try this again. Do you know why you are here, Alex?"

Alex was shaking badly from the impact, the fight or flight syndrome kicking in. He panicked and was surprised by how readily he was being beaten. After a few more seconds of being at a loss and not answering back, Faris called out loud, "bring the papers!". A uniformed man came rushing in almost instantly, handing Faris a brown envelope. He strode towards the table, boots making loud impressionable thumps, pulled out the contents and smacked them on the surface. He replaced the Alex's chair and commanded.

"Sit and look."

Alex scrambled to his feet, scared of what might happen again, but he prepared himself for the pain. He simply can't crack. Not now. But as he sat and looked, he saw the papers scattered over the surface. All were photos of him, one was with Baruch who he talked to earlier that night. Another was at a Jewish separatist protest where he was throwing stones at riot police. Just photo, after photo, after photo.

"We know more than you think" Faris muttered, "and lying will only gain you unnecessary pain. Quite a stupid thing to do. We are a liberal country, but when we have enemies, we hate them with a passion, and we hate them without mercy. And one of our greatest enemies, Alex, is Eretz-Zion. I am sure you know who they are because you attended some of their demonstrations in your youth, as you can see, and of course, met with some of it's very...well known...leaders in the underworld of Semitistan" - He said that pointing at the picture of him and Baruch having a coffee in some dingy cafe.
"You had a conversation with Baruch earlier. You wanted to see him one last time before he went to a particularly interesting part of the Roman Empire."

Alex didn't know what to say. He had never known how sophisticated and how closely the S.S.4 watched it's subjects. It astonished him. Here, the evidence was before him, and he knew at this point that saying anything else was futile. They were here for further information and not to play around. And so, he tried one last thing, and he had to muster all the courage for him to say it.

"This is a disgrace for a so called democracy! I am taken from my home, in the dead of night, interrogated and beaten without a warrant to be seen. I am spied on and tracked. How do you call this justice? I will file a complaint to the government itself about this treatment, and expose you all and your dirty practices!"

Without missing a beat, Faris smacked the table hard, making Alex flinch in return.

"You speak of democracy, and human rights, while you and your cronies chant death to the Arabs? You hail the heroes of May 15th, who massacred dozens of your own citizens and plunged us into a civil war that cost yet more lives? Your arrogance and self entitlement will be the end of all of you."

Alex thought he had him, and so he retorted, "the Arabs poison our heritage and dilute it. Can you accept that, Fulman? They are nothing but filth that need to be - "

He was met by a hard smack to the face, with Faris saying "my mother is Jewish, and my father Arab. You say one is poisoned and impure and wish death upon another. Only open your mouth if you can tell me about your plans are concerning the Holy Land to the West."

When Faris saw the alarmed look, he just carried on.

"You really think we didn't know about that? We brought you here for the details. We know you have your eye on the holy land, on "Judea and Samaria" as you call it. But we don't know exactly what, and you are going to tell us, whether you like it or not."

Faris Hassassian stood with his troop behind his back. They have just been dropped off to the North of Semitistan, in no-man's land. An arid dry land lay before them and in the distance, a couple of structures, just as described. Shabby but sturdy, they and their inhabitants were to be his target today. He gave the signal and they walked amidst the sunset and dwindling of light, like creatures of the night.

When they were in position, five of his snipers had their sights on some guards that the terrorists have posted.

"Engage" he whispered hoarsely, and as if he said a magic spell, five men indeed dropped dead, and they stormed the area. What followed next, as always, was a mass of confusion and sound. Gun fire everywhere, shouting in Arabic, Hebrew and sentences made from the two as his men relentlessly fought. What took at the most twenty minutes felt like an hour as he took cover, slowly calculating and taking people in his sights; a shot here and a shot there, surgically removing the threats.

When it was over, only two of his twenty were wounded, a large number of the enemy were killed but there were a few prisoners. His men got to work, questioning them and reporting to him, while others manned the few towers that stood to hold the small outpost. By the end, he radioed in to command.

"Faris Hassassian reporting for duty. We have taken this outpost, but according to reports there are hundreds in this land. Some are full blown settlements with women and children. The remnants of Eretz-Zion. They have set their sights on the Holy Land and hope to take through the Roman Empire, into the Golan Heights and then the Galilee. We need to get to work."

Two weeks later, and Hassassian was back where he stood. He did not know what happened in that negotiation room between the uptight Yidal and Defence Minister Bakri, but whatever it was, it was quick and it was deadly. They went back to the outpost that they had taken, and set up their base of operations there while the other units did their job. But as time passed, something seemed wrong; word was getting around that most of the outposts were now deserted.

The house of Representatives

President Mordechai sat facing the defence Minister and General Ziyad Bakri.

"So now that the operation of securing the Syrian wilds is under full swing, can you tell me what it is you have been thinking?"

Ziyad's face twisted into one of worry, one the Aaron Morderchai saw all to often.

"It's Yidal, I just don't trust him. His condescending tone was bad enough, but I played the naive man and he let down his guard, there was a vibe that was just not right."

Aaron smiled back,

"You know, General, you were never made for the pit of snakes we call politics, but I am still glad I made this choice."

"Thank you Mr. President" Ziyad replied, "but I am serious, we will need to keep a close eye on Yidal, and maybe all of the CMESS."

Aaron scratched his chin and muttered, "I trust your judgement, but we need to be careful as we are treading on volatile ground, and how goes -"

Ziyad's phone rang loudly in the otherwise quiet room, and he quickly apologized to answer it.

"Yes?...uh huh...wait, what? Deserted? all of them? Alright...how many did you take captive? I see...and did they reveal anything of importance?...moving North, you mean CMESS territory...yes. Thank you for this, I will get back to you soon", Ziyad hung up the phone and muttered "that bastard"

Aaron asked "What just happened?"

"The outposts and settlements in the Syrian Wilds, which were full of Eretz-Zion members and sympathisers, are all deserted, and some even dismantled. We have captured some who were moving North, and they said that all of them are moving North as well. He wouldn't say why..."

Aaron interjected.
"Listen, Ziyad, I know how much you hate Eretz-Zion, and as a Jew myself I despise them and their aims. But remember, we need to be careful. If they are in CMESS territory then the best we can do is secure the territory we have control of and use it as a buffer zone to protect ourselves. I will get our foreign affairs minister, Binyamin Lavon, to look into this and make sure that the CMESS understands the risks of letting such a group into their territories."

"And as for Yidal?"

Aaron smiled that smile, the one where he knew he will entertain his listener

"Well, you keep an eye on that son of a bitch."

Ziyad chuckled, "yes sir. And if the rumours are true? Well I guess we will have a lot
of work on our hands..."

Muhammad Al-Judidi strolled through the Capitol Building. He approached Security Adviser Redeem Yidal's office. He wanted to confront him about a new revelation in the Syrian Wilds. He grasped the handle to the door. He sighed...

He opened the door and looked straight at Yidal, who was seated at his desk. "Hello, Chairman." He said gruffly.

"Yidal, there have been a great deal of settlements and bases being set up by those Jewish Terrorists in the Wilds." Al-Judidi stated plainly. "I know you know about them. Why aren't our troops stomping them out, as per the Syrian Wilds Treaty with Semitistan?"

Yidal shifted in his chair. "Uh... T-They're refugees, not the Eretz-Zion. We can allow them to stay there, right?" Yidal asked sheepishly. Al-Judidi could tell he was nervous.

"You're lying, I know, I ordered one investigated. The inhabitants not only welcomed our forces, they identified themselves as Eretz-Zion." Al-Judidi said. "Yidal, I know you have a hand in this. I've scheduled you a press conference tomorrow, where you will announce your resignation."

"Sir, you can't be serious! I have no links to Eretz-Zion! None!" Yidal yelled, angrily.

"You lie again." Al-Judidi rebutted. "I've been collaborating with various Semitistani individuals, and I have a call history from your cellphone. If you don't announce your resignation tomorrow, you will be tried for Treason and Conspiracy to Commit Terrorist Acts. And I'll hand you over to the Semitistani Government."

Al-Judidi left the room. He knew Yidal wouldn't resign, he was to stubborn. He took out his cellphone to make some calls.

"Is this Ziyad Bakri?"

"Yes, hello sir. I have some information about Security Adviser Yidal that you may find important. I suppose by now, you've been suspecting Yidal working with Eretz-Zion. This is true. I've told him to resign, but I fear he is much to stubborn for that. I need you to-"

A single, loud gunshot rang through the building.

Muhammad Al-Judidi rushed into Yidal's office, finding him dead, a pistol in his hand.

"P-plans have changed. Mr. Bakri, I'm going to order those outposts destroyed. If they run South, crush them. Yidal is no longer a problem." Al-Judidi was stunned by the amount of gore. He called for the guards.

Ziyad Bakri slowly lowered the phone, mouth agape in total surprise. He pressed a button on the intercom.

"Contact Faris Hassassian and get him here, NOW!"

He paced back and forth for the next twenty minutes before Faris came rushing forth, in his uniform and ready.

"Well you took your sweet time!" Ziyad said, exasperated.

"Sorry, sir. Situation?"

"I think we will be having a fight on our hands at the northern border. Eretz-Zion will be coming in from the part of the
Syrian wilds controlled by CMESS. As your general and also defence minister, I demand that you defend the Federation
with all your strength. I will be sending orders to the other commanders, but I wanted to see you face to face because
of an important matter."

"Yes sir."

"You are the commander of the SS4, and a good fighter. I know you don't have that many resources as a unit, but you are
the best of the best. I want you to take the best of your men and do some... reconnaissance in the CMESS. Yidal, one of
their top officials may have been a supporter of Eretz-Zion, but I don't know if he is the only one. With things like this, the
Rabbit Hole can only go deeper. Anyway, let us deal with this situation first, and we will talk about the details of the intelligence
operations later. Understood?"

"Yes sir. Permission to speak freely?"

"Go ahead, Faris."

"I have had my suspicions ever since I heard of Yidal and his...visit here. But I didn't want to say anything because these matters
are fragile."

"Don't worry, you tried to do the right thing. But now we know where we need to keep a close eye, don't we?"
