Chairman of the Bank
|
ICBBC Headquarters, Stockholm Volnov was amused. He had just read in the newspaper how the French colony of Murmansk had been 'granted full sovereignity. He was amused because the colony had never managed to expand beyond the small garrison city on the northern coast and it had been unrecognized by other powers. Without recognition came no trade, except from the colonial power, who wanted natural resources. As it was, Dominion affiliated pirates, the Russians, the Porcuians, and the Eleytherians were all taking advantage of the lack of officiality by raiding the French commerce. It was only a matter of time before Great New France realized the folly of holding the territory. However, it also meant a premature death for whoever lived here. For them to leave now meant there was no garrison. For them to leave now meant there was no Murmansk. He decided to call Mr. Soll, the Bank chairman. "Any idea what to make of it?" he asked. Soll looked almost sullen, which momentarily surprised Volnov. "Other than my total lack of surprise, I haven't a clue," Soll replied, "I had had my sights on perhaps purchasing the city though." "Ah," said Volnov, nodding, "My guess is Moscow may go north. They might have pressured the French to give up the territory, especially with the Pope's new decree." "And just the same it could be the French are on the decline or perhaps too busy dealing with what is happening in Brazil to maintain the 'Money pit of Murmansk' any further," replied Soll dismissively, "My point being that there are many possible reasons but most of them don't really matter right now. We will have to wait and see how this goes." "It will be interesting, whatever happens," Volnov muttered. |
