I'm entering the world of Fashion and trying out new looks for myself. Currently I have two styles planned out; my summer attire will have the fashion theme of "retired fugitive Nazi in Paraguay", while my winter attire will have the fashion theme of "Fox Mulder."

This thread is for discussion of fashion, your fashion tips, your accomplishments in the fashion world, and other insights that may prove profitable to all of us.

Could you find some pictures on the internet to illustrate those styles?

I believe the first style is exemplified by products by a company I came across called Burma Bibas, in particular their fine printed silk shirts and ties. (Their website unfortunately doesn't seem to display their full range of products) http://www.burmabibas.com/index.php

Here are some pictures of Fox Mulder, showing sturdy wool tailoring and reflecting my aversion to skinny ties. http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1ASUT_enUS413US413&q=Fox+Mulder&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=RMN7T5uhEILW0QGF0unuCw&biw=1366&bih=655&sei=RcN7T-ecNvSy0AHSk-HkCw

"retired fugitive Nazi in Paraguay"
That's creepy. And more than a little disturbing.

So... basically, you want to wear nice polos, button-downs, and suits?

Unfortunately the first link doesn't display the printed shirts that I'm looking for, that really captures the subtropical "I've committed heinous atrocities and am lounging in South America" look that I'm talking about.

I don't know why you couldn't just say, "I want to dress like a man."

In any event, I suggest to all of my fellow forum members to take the time to find themselves a fine gentleman's clothier nearby. I myself go to the same clothier for all my needs--suits, shoes, sportcoats, my fedora--and there is genuinely a difference between going to such an establishment and going to, say, a Brooks Brothers (not that I have anything against them; I'm no stranger to their stores). You will find you are treated better--there is a great difference between being treated as a man and being treated as a mere customer--and their alterations will ensure that whatever you wear will make you look sharp.

I typically wear cargo pants from Old Navy, always with a belt, and a t-shirt or one color preferably without logos, but that's usually unavoidable. Alternatively, I'll wear a nice button up shirt, blue, gray, or red.

I do have a couple of too tight fitting of blue jeans, which are good for clubbing. I usually wear either a red or green t-shirt with them. Leather jacket and sunglasses are a must.

I wear the Irish hat (flat cap) sporadically. Works with any casual outfit.

Oh, and either athletic shorts or nothing under. :D Usually nothing with the blue jeans. Gotta be comfortable. And when you're clubbing, hey, that's one less layer between you and the strange women you take home...

Formal, all I have is the pinstriped suit. Either dark red or white dress shirt. Ruined my tie, need a new one. Need a new fedora too.

I'm partial to white dress shirts myself (as they're the easiest to match), but I would suggest investing in at least one (striped or not) blue shirt as well. As for ties, you'll certainly want more than one tie--especially if you ever end up with a job or some other situation where you'll need to dress up on a repeated base (you don't want to be known as "that guy with the one tie"). I suggest a selection of striped ties (broader stripes almost always look better than thin ones, and "loud" colors are almost always a bad idea; generally, a "color/metal" approach, such as blue/gold or green/silver etc., is the classiest way to go), along with one or two solid ties (really the only solid besides black--which should only be worn with a black suit, and to a funeral or other very formal event--that works well is red, the traditional "power tie"; most other colors tend to look boring or stupid). I'm not much a fan of dotted ties myself, but some people like them (and can be good for a business environment). Ties with kooky patterns or cartoon characters or whatver always make you look like an immature moron (the only exception being, say, a tie with your company logo on it--though you'll still look like a prat). Paisley should never, ever, ever be worn. Ever.

Also: invest in a pocket square or two. They're cheap, easy, and instantly improve your outfit.

Only wear a fedora if you can wear a fedora. I mean exactly that: only certain people can pull off a fedora. I'm not saying you can't, mind--but if you can't, then don't.

My personal style has evolved very little over the past five years. I'm still a very much a jeans and a t-shirt kind of guy. The only difference is that my jeans fit better and my t-shirts are thinner/more comfortable. They fit better as well, I suppose. As far as I'm concerned, jeans that fit need only to fall between "making you look like a hamster attempting to battle your way out of a man's jeans" and "male muffin-top." Apparently this definition sets the bar too high a solid third of men under the age of thirty, but what can you do. Luckily I don't have to worry about dressing respectably. Salt Lake City is full of places where an individual who looks like an up-jumped vagrant, such as myself, can get a job.

My entire wardrobe consists of the following: 3 jeans, 1 gray sweatpants, 1 long sleeved shirt, and 4 t-shirts. Everything matches with everything (I think) and care about what I'm wearing only to the extent that it lets me walk around in public without being arrested. I also have a fedora.

'Cause I'm fedorable.

Occasions that require dressing up are usually made up on the fly. I do have a nice shirt that I usually wear open with a white t shirt underneath, but I have been harshly criticized when I wore that to my aunt's wedding. I ended up having to steal a cousin's blazer. Yeah, I greatly dislike dressing up, if only for the unnecessary discomfort that is always accompanied with it.

It works out, though, since all my clothes are dark and I never have to separate laundry. Takes me no time to do the wash every 3 or 4 days.

Moff, any advice on shoes?

Currently I have 4 pairs of shoes-
1. high end dark brown leather shoes reserved for interviews only
2. casual Clark's brown leather shoes for all occasions up to an interview
3. soft leather, tan-green boat shoes which I call my "bro shoes" for random occasions
4. athletic trainers

Yeah, I'm well known for my fedora. But it just wasn't good enough for me at one point. I'm going to have to get one of the finer, more expensive types at some point.

And I miss my tie. It was beautiful. Everybody complimented it. Holographic diamond patterns. Freaking awesome tie. Why did I put it in the washer that one day...

But there's the full get up. Couldn't find anything larger. That is an ancient photo at this point.

I cannot wear a fedora, which is why I stick with my Scala Four Seasons Felt Ranchers Hat:

Only cotton of good quality touches my body, be it shirt or pants - I wear casual dress slacks in grey, tan or brown, and tend to favor plaid shirts.

For dress up occasions I wear my family tartan kilt and my Prince Charlie jacket and vest, with correct tie and a silver fox sporran:

This, of course, requires the proper Hose, Gillies, Belt and Dirk.

Fashion? What's that?

I prefer to go nude, when it's warm enough.

If not, then plaid or striped button-up shirts, dark t-shirts, jeans, pajama pants, warm hoodies, mismatched socks. I can't remember the last time I wore a tie. A diverse array of hats for courtrooms or other special occasions: fuzzy flap-eared winter hat, hand-knit rastafarian hat, paper hat, ridiculous shiny purple, gold, and ermine lined crown, green elf-hat with jingly bell on top, etc.

Everything has holes in it, though... I definitely need to hit up a thrift store sometime soon. I think I'd like something earth-toned and sturdy, somewhere between farmer and hippie.

Oh, go farmer, by all means. Hippie is so 1960's!

Walking around nude, eh? Well, it's warm here in Houston, come on down!!

Only think you really need to know about shoes (as brown and black are both perfectly acceptable) is to always always always match the shoe color and the belt color.

For my current job, wardrobe is business casual, more on the casual side. I generally wear a button-down shirt over a T-shirt, with well-kept jeans and Vans. It's fun to work for a tech company. :)

For the most formal occasions, I usually wear a tan or gray dress shirt inside a navy blue suit. Blue tie, black side of the reversible belt, black dress shoes, dark blue socks. Can go minus the jacket if needed. Also can wear a short sleeve dress shirt or khakis for more of a middle ground.

If I'm out with friends, may either go with the same outfit as work or just a good t-shirt, depending on the weather.

If I'm just being lazy around the house, t-shirt and jeans or shorts. Sandals, slippers or bare socks.

You should get some athletic shirts to wear under the buttoned shirts. I find it gets way too hot wearing a t-shirt under one.

style...style.....

Well in the spring and summer months, its cargo shorts/board shorts, Ts/ a button up, and rainbows. In the fall its jeans, long-sleeves with Ts over, and rainbows (or socks and shoes if it s REALLY cold). I always wear a belt and I'm usually always wearing an under shirt, though not a wife beater. Its shirts, ties, slacks, and nice shoes when I finally find somewhere to teach. As for formal wear, well I've got a tux or a suit so I think I've got all that covered. I usually don't do hats though, my hair too awesome for hats.

Pretty sure that's me.

Hair gel is the difference maker for me. Without hair gel I look like a slum dweller; with it I look like I have at least some semblance of authority.

Picked up a couple of Brooks Brothers neckties this weekend...I especially like my new monkey print necktie.
