CLEVELAND ROCKS!
Record jackpot of 540 million. Despite the long odds, I've always liked buying a Mega Millions ticket when the prize gets up above $300 million. It's high enough up there that I only am playing every once in awhile.

So, who is playing? What would you do with that kind of cash?

I'd donate a significant amount to Ohio Bobcats Athletics and the Ohio college of business. I'd get a condo in downtown Cleveland and a house in some Colorado town where I can go skiing. I'd invest a significant amount in stocks and other securities, but my biggest chunk would go to founding a real estate development firm. I'd also have the wildest last quarter of college ever..... :gnarkgnark: Not that I'd actually end up graduating!

This kind of money is enough to retire on if you aren't completely idiotic with it (plenty of lotto horror stories out there). Heck, even if you aren't that bright that is still a lot of money to blow!

I regularly play the lottery even when the jackpot is smaller

If I had an astronomical sum of money would probably try my hand at business, something to occupy the mind and doing "work".

I've often idly wondered about this myself. If I went to the U.S. government and said, "I'd like to buy 20x20 mile area of land" in some random part of the country, could I in fact establish my own nation within this area, or would I still be subject to U.S. jurisdiction.

I've never played the lottery but I did just buy in, cause what the hell, right? I'd put, say, $50 million into a trust fund to pay for my family's education for presumably the next 2000 years or so, I'd donate some money to my alma mater (as long as I got some buildings named after me, of course ^^ )--and then I'd buy myself a car or 6

If they agreed to sell you the land, they would probably proceed to treat you like any landowner under United States jurisdiction. You would probably fall under a state's sovereignty as well.

There are some "micro nations" that claim to have declared independence, but they're so small that they seem more like jokes.

We should all pool our resources to buy an island somewhere (NC has been selling some in the Outer Banks  ) and declare it a NSWR enclave. We can have a yearly summit.

I decided to bite on the Mega Millions thing. I got $5 worth of picks and bought a $5 scratch-off ticket. That ticket won me back my $10, so I'll be playing in the drawing tonight for free.

Hopefully the luck continues. ;)

Well if we're buying an island in NC, I'll keep an eye on it on the off-season, outer banks are far from me. Beautiful place by the way.

Well I bought some, 6 actually, but not just for me (2 are for me) and other four went for my parents. Well its up to 650m, which I think I saw the payout is like 440m or something like that. Regardless, its a hell out a lot more money I think I'd ever see in my lifetime. What would I do with it, well I'd give a lot back to my family (those that need the help), probably buy myself a truck, take vacation (invite the rest of you :) ), and invest the rest in the right way.

Figure you can't win if you don't play and I only play when it gets high like this.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the lurkiest of them all?
My group at work had a lottery pool going, so I figured what the hell. If I win, I'm getting a McLaren MP4-12C, going to culinary school, and opening up a Mexican grill back home in metro Detroit.

If you haven't seen it before, TGWTG's "Kickassia" takes place in the micronation of Molossia. I love Channel Awesome.
