Well unfortunately my first AAR fell through because of the mod I was using, and I was fed up for a while, but the idea did seem to attract some attention. Now, I'd like to restart an AAR, this time playing a campaign with one of two historical mods, the excellent Paeninsula Italica (which I've played before) and the intriguing Invasio Barbarorum (which I've never tried). Paeninsula Italica takes place, as you've probably guessed, on the Italian Peninsula, during the Rise of the Roman Republic. The Romans find themselves surrounded on all sides by the Sabines to the east, the Samnites and Lucanians to the south, and Etruscans to the north--not to mention the various Gauls and Greeks. It is a high-quality mod, featuring pretty art, good music, and boasting superb historical accuracy. On the other hand, Invasio Barbarorum, and specifically the submod Africa Vandalorum, takes place at the twilight of the Western Roman Empire. It is 429 AD, and what remains of Rome's power in the West is under pressure from Vandals, Goths, Burgundians, and a bevy of other barbarian tribes--including the legendary Huns. While I have not played this mod, it looks extremely well-polished and clearly a lot of hard work went into its creation. So, forum fellows, which would you prefer: Rome's Rise, or her Fall? (Or neither) |

Her fall; I've sort of caught this AAR bug that's going around and I'm running through a couple of campaigns in Hearts of Iron 3. It's been fun reading the stuff that's been posted, especially seeing the different kinds of games and the different periods of history they reflect. I hope to get something up and running during break that piques your guys' interest. |
