With difficultly, Marshal Sevastian Baba uttered something unintelligible to his private doctor. Lying in his bed, surrounded by the nation's most renowned doctors and sophisticated hospital equipment, the leader wheezed while attempting to convey his thoughts to those around him.

Suffering a massive stroke the night before, the Marshal's health was in a dire state. He knew it, and the doctors reminded him. He pondered the future of Aghaba after his passing although not too deeply. He had no sons to ride on the shock of his death and into a position of leadership. No pupils that he had groomed to follow in his footsteps. No family he had bothered to acknowledge at all. Only his beloved military.

He worried about the political vacuum that would ensue. He worried about the bastards around him that would take advantage of the situation. He worried about his country.

Repeating what he had said with great effort, the mousy nurse approached him and leaned in close. She could make out his request.
"Pen... Pen..."
A doctor handed him his clipboard and pen, which he took weakly.

After what seemed like ages, the Marshal held up the sheet of paper he had scribbled his thoughts onto. The nurse gently took it from him, and handed it to Prime Minister Hussein, who struggled for a second to make out what was written. Once his expression relaxed, he folded the sheet of paper and left the room. Marshal Baba drifted back into a sleepy state of recuperation.

"At approximately noon today, 12-2-2012, Marshal Sevastian Baba, leader of The Federal Republic of Aghaba quietly passed away due to health complications.

Tomorrow, the 13th of February, 2012 is declared a national day of mourning. As a result, all federal offices and services will not be in operation.

A memorial service will be held for the Marshal Baba on 14-2-2012 in the Al-Abad stadium.

As per Article 2C of the Aghaban Constitution, Prime Minister Artyom Hussein is acting leader of Aghaba until parliament convenes to nominate leadership candidates.

This is devastating news to us as a nation, and we encourage all citizens to remain composed and uncompromised.

We are as one."

ACON Report:

Violence has erupted in the western city of Choueifat today with Christian gangs firing rocket propelled grenades and automatic weapons at administrative buildings around the city.
Two police precincts have been hit by small arms fire and explosives with reports of nine casualties. Roads into predominantly Christian neighborhoods have been blocked off by flaming cars and tires, guarded by armed men and women.
The Choueifat Municipal Court is visibly damaged by small arms fire and numerous government offices have been struck by rockets.
No organized militias or terrorist organizations are known to reside in the region, so authorities are treating these as violent criminal actions perpetrated by loosely organized Christian minority communities.
The violence is suspected to be a result of the passing of Marshal Sevastian Baba early this afternoon; Christians in the country voiced strong opposition to his leadership.
Police have reportedly been able to hold push the perpetrators back into the northern Christian areas of the city, and it is reported that the AGF Western Command is currently deploying units of the 6th Light Armor Brigade to the city to assist with stamping out violence.

ACON Report:

Al-Abad: Today the interim government of Artyom Hussein announced that elections are to be held on the 14th of March, along with the news that former Prime Minister Hussein would be resigning from any government position once a winner is announced. This comes as a surprise to many across Aghaba who saw the very popular Hussein as a strong candidate and sure-winner of any political contest. Currently, two men have announced their intentions to run: Defense Minister Nikolai Aoun, a favorite among more conservative citizens, and a long time friend and adviser of the late Marshal Baba, and Speaker of the Parliament Rashid Al'Ghul, a figure whose political views have caused controversy over the years and polarized many. Opposition groups complain that there is no representation of other parties, and that any successor will be a continuation of the Baba Regime - It is expected that a number of opposition figures will announce their candidacy, including Communist Party leader Bilal Douli.

A statement was also released addressing the hostilities between Scythirus and Alexanderhaven:

"Aghaba has no intention of involving itself in a territorial conflict between two imperial nation-states. The disruption of trade and the destabilization factor is clearly a concern, but it is our current policy to distance ourselves from this engagement unless it directly threatens Aghaban sovereignty. In compliance with the inspection team and its respective host nations, Aghaba has pulled most of its resources from Nekah, and is not involved in this dispute."

Choueifat: Peace and order has been restored after a joint police-military operation to stamp out violent gangs was a success. Elements of the Aghaban Ground Forces' 6th Light Armor Brigade cooperated with city police in a block by block elimination of fringe religious syndicates. BMP-3 APCs assisted SWAT teams in the arrest or destruction of 117 gangsters, while minimizing civilian casualties and collateral damage. 35 civilians were killed in the violence during the past week, including a foreign official from the Kingdom of Zerlie. The Mayor of Choueifat has praised the city's police force for its bravery and effectiveness, and commended its citizens for their cooperation and composure during the incident.

ACON Report:

Al-Abad: Documents sent into ACON offices by an anonymous source reveal that the popular political leadership candidate Defense Minister Nikolai Aoun may have misused hundreds of millions of ACs to fund unauthorized operations throughout the Middle East. The papers indicate that Mr. Aoun orchestrated the terrorist attack on the Al-Adiban city of Alaqa last year, collaborating with agents of the Dissith Union in the process. The tragic events in Alaqa resulted in over 300 casualties, and increased tension between Scythirus and Al-Adib. There has been no official statement by the office of the Defense Minister, but members of the government are calling for Mr. Aoun's resignation.

Aoun's political rival, Speaker Al'Ghul, had this to say:

"The documents in question, whether from an internal or external source, are so concise that it would be impossible for Mr. Aoun to defend himself against them. If true, then Nikolai Aoun has disgraced himself, our intelligence community, and our national image. It is for these reasons that he must withdraw his candidacy, and be placed under immediate investigation."

In other news, Communist Party leader Bilal Douli has announced that he will not run for office. In a speech to his followers, Mr. Douli said that Aghaba is not yet ready for such an ideological shift in leadership, but that he and the Party will remain active with high hopes for the future. With only 12 days until the election, it is unlikely that any other candidates will emerge. Citizens have not expressed any particular grief at the lack of varied representation - a reflection of Aghaban political apathy.

ACON Report:

Al-Abad: Defense Minister Nikolai Aoun, found guilty of charges of corruption and abuse of power brought against him in Aghaba's High Court after an investigation, has been detained by security forces and is officially dismissed from the leadership race. This leaves Speaker Rashid Al'Ghul as the only recognized candidate, ensuring his place as the next head of state.

M'ilshi: The fourth most wanted man on the Aghaban Intelligence Agency's Most Wanted List, Samir Islam, has been killed in a daring raid on his residence in the south-western city of M'ilshi. SWAT teams raided his apartment early in the morning after months of intense surveillance with the intent of arresting Islam. However, it is claimed that he attempted to fire on police forces with a sidearm, forcing SWAT members to respond. Samir Islam is the leader of the Popular Islamic Revolutionary Group, which at one time was the largest armed terrorist organization operating inside Aghaba, but began to crumble under a successful counter-terrorism program implemented by the AIA in the mid-2000s.

ACON Report:

Al-Abad: Rashid Al'Ghul has been sworn in as the new leader of The Federal Republic of Aghaba. After an uncontested race for the leadership position, Consul Al'Ghul promised a great many changes in Aghaban policy, many of them being enforced just one day after his victory. Most notable is perhaps his first order to alter the national flag. The new flag claims to represent the new way forward for Aghaba, with the retired "Blood Eagle" flag being dismissed as a symbol of "decades of misrule"

As is Aghaban tradition, the newly appointed leader was presented with a choice of titles, and the honorable Rashid Al'Ghul has selected the title of Consul - last chosen by the second Aghaban leader, Aleksandr Suhayb in 1891.
The Consul has appointed former Prime Minister Artyom Hussein to the position of Defense Minister. Rami Assaf by rule of succession has been sworn in as the new Prime Minister, with Omar Fawaz as his deputy. Now former ICON Ambassador Hamdi Moutad has been recalled in order to serve as Speaker of the Parliament. A new ICON Ambassador will not be named, as Aghaba's ICON membership will be nullified under Consul Al'Ghul's reforms.
Aleksandr Tupolev and Abed Moutad have been relinquished of their positions as Interior and Foreign Ministers, respectively. Ziad Shirazi - former Ambassador to Alexanderhaven - is the newly appointed Foreign Minister, and Marko Muleshkov - Commander of the Nakhba Vanguard - has been selected to as Interior Minister.

A large crowd amassed outside of the Seat of Power to hear Consul Al'Ghul's first address as leader. He promised sweeping reforms across Aghaba and a "dramatic change in our place in the Middle East."

"My people, today marks a turning point in our nation's history. The erratic, indecisive regime of Marshal Baba has come to an end, and in its wake has arisen a new chance - A chance to put our nation of the proper path. The path envisioned by our founders, that will propel us into a new era of fortitude...!"

"You will witness a dramatic change in our place in this region. Gone will be the military adventurism of rulers past. We will usher in new wave of national pride and solidarity with our neighbors!"
