This is, simply put, incorrect. The USA is in a depression and its military is a shell of its former self. You guys need to stop lying to yourselves. Want proof? Just go join the military. See for yourself the mockery it has become. The US has fallen behind. WAY behind. |

So true. Americans are deluded about themselves. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Americans and America but they are so overly arrogant about themselves! |

This is all so very confusing. What country out there has the ability to take on our military? Our Navy itself is larger than most of the world's combined. |

CE, objectively we have the biggest economy (GDP) in the world (we do not have anywhere close to the highest GDP per capita in the world; I think that's Luxembourg or Monaco). We account for 45% of the world's total military spending. Name who has a better military than the US. It sure as hell is not the United Kingdom. Edited by Quaon, Dec 23 2011, 01:26 PM.

Fallout 3 The rest of you guys, you need to learn that statistics aren't everything. CE's right. You are deluded. You guys have no idea what a sorry state the US military is in. Do yourself a favor and actually look into it. Same with the economy. The US isn't some dominant world superpower anymore. It's still powerful, but it's waning. |

Sed, if you say that statistics aren't everything, you have to explain what is the problem. If you are going to ask people to "look into it" you have to tell them into what to look. |

This detratcs from what him and I are saying - China would most definetly win. 20 years ago China would have definetly lost but now....China would definetly win. My American friends, I understand you. My grandad still has a deluded opinion about how powerful England is...and this is you guys now haha! But seriously, China would win. China has no blue water navy. It cannot project power beyond the first island chain, and depends on area denial tactics in the China Sea. Could the US invade China effectively? No, probably not - but neither can China invade the United States, and unlike the United States, invade anywhere else either. China's inability to project power, furthermore, puts it in a state of dependence. China's depends on its sea lanes for 85% of its energy usage, unlike the United States which receives most of its energy domestically, from overland routes from Mexico or Canada, or from territories well within its naval ability to protect - Venezuela, Trinidad & Tobago, etc. A Chinese war against American positions in Asia would literally run out of fuel and into a standstill in a matter of days. The technology gap between the American and Chinese navies, furthermore, has only grown since the end of the Cold War. Nevermind what the current economic crash in China will do on its projections in the near future. American hegemony has not been challenged by China, no matter how much you may want it to be, and won't for decades yet. Edited by Union, Dec 23 2011, 05:08 PM.

Oh no....I really don't want it to be. I'm very happy, and supportive, of having America as the worlds dominant superpower! You guys speak my language....I basically grew up with American culture side by side with English culture (well....at least through TV, movies and music). But I can see that China would still win. Not gonna change my opinion on that! |

CE, you have the perfect right to your opinion, but you have so far been unable to substantiate that opinion and likely cannot. It's frankly insulting to insist that the only reason we believe in the United States' military superiority is because of blind nationalism. I am more than willing - in fact, I am inclined - to criticize my country's weaknesses as I see them - for example, our inferior healthcare and education systems, just to name a few. All you and Sed have offered in this discussion is a vague feeling; no facts. |

Facts (meaning statistics) don't decide the outcome of a war. Yeah, they can give an idea but they don't decide. Individual will, individual decisions, in my opinion, are all far more important (and I'm talking right down to every single soldier and every single person in that nation). |

Because it's their individual will...their individual decision....etc Anyway, already said they're deluded....well I said my grandad is and so, by extension, so are all English people who think that England's military is the best/great. |

Since facts are of minimal importance compared with individual decisions and wills, what are examples of some of the individual decisions and wills that elevate the Chinese military (for example) to superior status? |
