That's interesting. I'd like to see it broken down by region and other factors. It probably is not uniform across all demographics. Males are probably arrested more and females less. Different regions probably have different rates. Urban vs. rural vs. suburban, etc. Some areas probably have much higher stats! |

My personal observation is that pretty much all of my students (male and female, only the uber Christians and super geeks are excluded) have been arrested once. It is a shame we are making our youth start their lives with a record. I my day the cops would just drag your ass back home and you'd receive REAL punishment!! |

CE, I am from Chicago, and both are bad areas, but I am teaching in Ann Arbor, MI, which is quite a ways from Detroit, and is very suburban/wealthy. Most have been arrested for drug posossion, or DWI, or being in a car with someone driving while intoxicated, though there have been a few that have tried to smuggle a bottle of booze out of a store under their coat, and one for not paying child support (he was 19). Also, a couple are for fighting at high school, where nowadays, instead of the school dealing with it they just call the cops. What my generation just considered dumb pranks these kids are getting arrested. |

I believe it. Most of it is dumb stuff like underage drinking (often between 18-21 which wasn't illegal for our parents) or possession.. The crappy thing is how that hurts getting a job down the line. :o It actually amazes me to think about all my friends who've been arrested now that I think about it. I don't even think twice if I know that someone has been arrested, mostly since it is stuff that was a prank/not serious offense years ago. Stupid PC America. Edit: (In fact, I don't know any of my friends who have been arrested for something other than: Underage Drinking/goofy disorderly while drunk, arson/vandalism, weed) ... Also very curious to think about how this affects Murica moving forward. This libertarian thing just might stick around. ^^ Edited by flumes, Dec 21 2011, 12:19 AM.

Sometimes I wonder. I personally like to think it is because we are the most productive workers in the industrialized world (surely because we work so many hours)... And those awesome Navy Seals. ^^ Edit: I also haven't been arrested. How I haven't is an interesting question to ponder. I'd assume it is because I'm extremely polite, to the point of it being humorous when I'm drunk speaking to cops. The Falklands War....and anyway the best military isn't just about winning wars. It's also about not shooting your allies.... And, anyway, I refuted the still....I didn't refute that in the past America may have had the best military. |

Exactly...the US military used to be the best but if it still is....I don't know. And, as for the world wars, I honestly believe that had England fallen during the Battle of Britain America may not have won the war alone. Russia, I believe, would have succumbed and America would be facing Japan and Germany...I'm not sure if America would have beaten both of those. Anyway, this is a moot point. You've helped us and we've helped you. Now, let's go beat the Chinese up haha! :P |
