I rejected my invitation for this weekend, as I alluded to above. I just got an email saying I would be invited to a future weekend beta, so I'll try it then. |

I got an email saying I've been selected to test the beta again. Doesn't have any info on when, though... |

I think, then, that probably everyone that has been selected for testing up to this point will be allowed the next several weekends until launch. EDIT: Fair word of warning: The servers have queue. You have to wait forever to get in. Make sure to visit the testing forums and see the q numbers. Makes the wait a lot less. This is great, though, being able to watch videos and post on forums on my laptop and have The Old Republic on my roommate's computer while he is out. I think after I get my gaming computer, I might keep this laptop for similar purposes. Edited by Sedulius, Nov 12 2011, 12:20 AM.

Ah, that's what's doing it. On the Old Republic, I must say it has met my expectations. It has not exceeded them, but it has met them, and that is good enough. It is enjoyable to play. I'm not really supposed to say more than that. |

I don't think RAM can do much to make up for lack of video processing power. Fewer shaders is still fewer shaders. What it comes down to is this: I don't think Skyrim's requirements are much more intensive than previous generation games. To me, after playing it for a little while yesterday, it doesn't seem any more resource intensive than Fallout 3. And that makes sense: it runs on the same consoles, so the PC version probably doesn't have steep requirements either. But it looks better! I'll try Old Republic if they let me into one of the future betas like they said they would. I'm hoping that for subsequent weekends, the queue will be shorter. I am not generally a fan of MMOs, but I like Bioware games so I want to give it a shot and the beta seems like a good way to do that. Edited by Rhadamanthus, Nov 12 2011, 10:27 AM.

Skyrim is just overwhelming. It has sent me spiraling into an existential crisis. How can I ever hope to become a productive member of society while this game exists? |

Maybe we need a separate Skyrim thread. Anyway, I may buy this soon enough, but I'm debating whether to go with Steam download, Amazon purchase or go buy it from a brick/mortar. As for The Old Republic, I'll almost certainly buy that, eventually. |

Here are some points to consider: - With Amazon you can avoid paying shipping since the game costs over $25, but you would have to wait to receive the game. - With B/M you could be playing the same day, and with Steam you would just have to wait for the download. - Brick & Morter stores will require you to pay sales tax, and Amazon will require it in some states. - Amazon doesn't have sales tax in many states, and I don't believe Steam has sales tax in most states. - The game will run through Steam no matter who you buy it from. - For preordering a physical copy of the game, I got a "premium" version of the map. It is only a small bonus, but some B/M stores might still have extras. - The game installs quickly off of a disk - much more quickly than a Steam download with my cable internet connection. - Steam got hacked recently. That doesn't mean they'll get hacked again, but if you do purchase from them, don't store your credit card information. Personally, I preordered from Amazon.com because I have a firm belief that fantasy RPGs should include physical maps of the fantasy world and I wanted to signal my support for Bethesda. Because I preordered, I could take advantage of Amazon's $1 Release Date Shipping option, which allowed me to receive the game at my door yesterday afternoon (I had a holiday for Veteran's Day), install quickly, and get started with my character. In your current position, I would probably go with B/M unless I was too lazy to get out of the house. If you are willing to wait for shipment, go with Amazon. |

Seconded. We really should have a separate Skyrim thread. As to the Old Republic, I played it through the night again, and it just gets better the longer you play it. It's a good idea to forgo the side quests in the beta, however, so you can get further in the game. On launch, however, play all of the sidequests. They're worth it. The space battles are awesome. |

Hey, Lans just reminded me of the whole guilds thing on SW:TOR and I thought some of you might actually be interested in joining the guild I'm a part of. I can actually send invites for it, so anyone interested just PM me your email. The guild already has something like thirty people and is guaranteed to be in the game from the start, and so far from I've seen they don't seem like uber-commitment types. They even have their own forums separate from the TOR site. |

I got an Old Republic beta key on the Bioware forum, which said I should register it by the end of today. Does that mean another beta is coming up? |

I don't know. It's not saying anything about it on the forums over there, and I haven't gotten an email for another beta test. They should notify you what period your beta test is a few days before it happens. That said, Bioware has lifted the tester confidentiality restrictions, so anybody that has tested before can now say whatever they want to about the game to the general population. You still can't talk about what is currently being tested or repost from the testing forums, but you can talk about in new words about whatever details you want to for the previous builds. I'll post something later. |

Ok guys, it looks like the next beta is Nov 25-28, this coming weekend. That is based on Tom's Hardware, which posted a news article quoting Bioware on the subject. |

I swear to god someone at Bioware stole my calendar so that they could be sure I'd never be able to participate in the beta, no matter how many invites I get. I believe this is the third. It will also the third time I have been unable to participate because I didn't have access to a computer. |

I just accepted too. Alright. If you play as the Jedi Knight or Consular you will disappointed with the start since you will be fighting a bunch of turd monsters. Posted Image Seriously, these are the most retarded things I have ever seen. But you will be in for enough of a treat with other classes. Sortof. Beyond your start world, the game gets pretty damn good. DO THE SPACE BATTLES. They are full of awesome. Though you have to get past the second world to do them. The space battles are reminiscent of Rebel Assault. Make sure to hat and make fun havingsex! Edited by Sedulius, Nov 21 2011, 11:36 PM.

Just accepted another beta test. Not sure when, because right after I accepted the invite (and I did see a screen confirming it), the site said it was down for maintenance. We'll see, then. |

I also just accepted :D I was lucky enough to do the "Jump to Lightspeed" beta test, and now TOR too! Now I'll have to figure out what class to test: do I go with Imperial Agent or Trooper, since I intend on playing with those once the game comes out, or do I go with another class just for fun? |

Depends on what you want to do. Do you to experience the story for the first time at launch, or do you want to get ahead of the pack quickly at launch? If you play as a trooper now, getting through as much as possible, at launch you can gun through the starting areas much more quickly, having a high level character much faster than others at launch. I know I'll probably be delayed from playing at launch, so getting familiar with the game now is invaluable to me. |
