I know there's an old thread for this, but I would have to go through page after page after page of old threads to find it.

But yeah, I finally got my beta invite. I've been on the swtor site since October 2008, and I finally get the invite a month before release. Bastards. Couldn't give me an invite when I had my gaming computer in it's prime. All I have now is just an old laptop.

Ironically, I'll be playing it on November 11th, when Skyrim comes out.

The forum has a "Search" button, you know. Took me less than 10 seconds to find the proper thread.

I was going to suggest the search as well, speaking of Skyrim...

I've been debating on whether or not to get it. It comes out Friday and could still have a copy reserved as late as tomorrow afternoon but I'm a bit unimpressed and not entirely sure its a game for me. Also, I've already reserved Saints 3 as well as the new Assassin title (both of which I'm highly excited about) which come out next week. I think I'm going to just wait on Skyrim, let it come out, people play it, people return it, and get a cheap used copy for myself.

For a long time, the search button did not work. I still forget about it.

Siad, I got my beta key today, too. Its a shame I didn't get it months ago since I don't think I can play now. Are there any bonuses for being in the beta, or should I not even bother to use the invite if I'm not going to use it?

I'm wary of getting new games since I rarely play what I have. Its irritating that I don't get to play these because, in all honesty, I'm not that busy if you look at my schedule and responsibilities, but the time just disappears before I've even had the chance to start anything!

No, there's no later benefit to playing the beta. You don't get to keep your character.

I got one of these invites in my email too. I'm not going to accept though - I'll be playing Skyrim instead.

I think I'm going to go ahead and instill it on my roommate's gaming computer, and uninstall it on this one. They said it was fine to install it on multiple private machines from the same location.

I might as well post it here.

So I have a Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Intel HD Graphics Family) with an Intel i5 2.3 GHz processor that has turbo boost up to 2.9 GHz in my laptop. Will this be enough to handle Skyrim?

This is an exceptional guide. Ctrl - F search your card. Each entry is a link to more information on the specific card.

Meh, your card is about halfway through Class 3.

The processor is fine. The graphics chip may be a problem. Intel's integrated graphics generally aren't that great, though it might play the game on Low. Hard to be sure though.

Hence my hesitation to purchase Skyrim.

Agreed, Telo's signature is BS.

As for Skyrim, you might want to wait a little bit, and then see if you can find someone with that graphics chip online so you can see if it runs.

I feel so guilty for this, but I just might torrent it. If it works, I'll go out and buy it.

Is there an equivalent list for desktops? I've got an NVIDIA GEForce 9800 GT, but apparently it's not powerful enough to meet Skyrim's recommended settings.

Lans, I think the list would be about the same for desktops. These are just talking about the graphical components, so the only difference might be certain specifications such as the effect on battery life, which isn't a concern for a desktop. I know my dad's desktop and his laptop have the same crappy graphic card.

It's an MMO. Everything is handled server-side. You need an account, and likely a credit card number. No way you can pirate it.

No, that is almost always false. Laptop cards often have the same names as desktop cards (with a "mobile" designator), and they might have the same relative rankings, but the laptop cards are much weaker than the desktop versions. A laptop chassis usually cannot cool desktop components effectively enough to properly use them.

My comp meets the minimum specs for Skyrim, but I need a quad-core processor and at least an NVIDIA GTX 250 graphics card for recommended specs. Only have a Core 2 Duo processor and the 9800 GT card already mentioned. Should I go ahead and buy Skyrim for PC as my computer stands, or buy it for the 360 or PS3 instead?

Hey, I'm the guy to be asking about this stuff!

meh, no you cannot play Skyrim. You cannot even play Oblivion (you could possibly play it on the lowest graphics with horrifying lag). With an Intel card, you might just have enough juice to play Morrowind. Maybe, and not with the graphics extender. Go get Daggerfall. It's free, and larger than any game ever made. It IS the true Elder Scrolls game.

AJ, get Skyrim for PC. Elder Scrolls games are always better on PC. An Nvidia GTX 250 is a clone of a 9800 GTX+, so with a 9800 GT and dual core you are only slightly below the recommended specs. If it doesn't work at all you can punch me later. If it works, but you have to turn down a few things, you are STILL probably getting better graphics than the console versions.

Telo, I hate the bug in your signature too.

As to the Old Republic, I'm loading it onto my roommate's gaming computer, and I have cleaned his room and desk to an extent so it will actually be tolerable to play the game in that hellhole.

EDIT: These things said, I really think those of you that were invited to the beta should do it. Skyrim can wait. This is this weekend only. You're only going to play this beta build once in your life. Plus, we can coordinate on servers and play together in game.

Well fuck you Sed. It plays fine on medium, though a little bit laggy.

EDIT: Sorry, but really excited.

How the hell are you playing Skyrim on medium with an Intel card? You do have a good CPU, but that shouldn't be enough. How much RAM do you have?

Word to the wise. They just sent me an email informing me I am invited to the next weekend beta. And the next, and the next, and the next...

So at the very least I'm a weekend tester now, and so are any of you that accepted this weekend, more or less it seems.

Yay hatz.
