So apparently the world is about to reach 7 billion people, SEVEN BILLION! I find it interesting and saw on a new report this website (there are actually several, the BBC has a interesting page on it) that, once you put in your birth date info, you can find out your number.

By number of course, I mean where you fall in that upcoming 7 billion number....SEVEN BILLION!

So I decided to give it a try and apparently, I'm number 4,976,453,572th (on the first website) and 4,914,354,666th (On the BBC Website) both of which is out of the almost 7 billion that will soon be on the planet....SEVEN BILLION!

Anywho, thought it might be marginally fun to see everyone's number and where they fall into the greater scheme of almost 7 billion people....SEVEN BILLION! So check out the websites if you feel so inclined and post your number and whatever other thoughts come to mind ^^

What's your number?

OK, I am number 2,480,726,514 on the first.
On the U.K. site - 2,571,363,281

So, apparently they are estimating the population of the planet on the day you are born. My mother came up with 1,841,835,663 on the U.K. site. Does this mean that less than 0ne billion people were added to the world's population from 1918 to 1951, but 2.5 billion from 1951 to (I'm guessing here, NRE) 1988?

That is some pretty rapid growth.

1986 actually, yeah I'm not sure about the numbers myself either, but I did think it was an interesting thought. Apparently I'm the 79,767,730,889th person to have lived since history began (where exactly "history began," they don't explain).

On the first site: 4,863,299,548
On the second site: 4,819,307,002
(I was born on Christmas, 1984, but of course, so were many other people)

Harumf: Yes, population growth has sped up rapidly. But it probably won't do so forever. I've seen some estimates that as more countries go through the demographic transition, the peak is expected sometime around mid-century, and after that the population will stabilize or even decline. Of course, the usual caveats are present regarding such forecasts.

This is stupid. They don't really know how many people live on Earth. It may have been seven billion for several years now. Censuses can never truly be accurate, except in the case of particular towns. There's simply too many factors that produce discrepancy.

Even stupider is their figure for how many people have lived since humanity first began. They really have no idea on that one, and I should not need to explain why.
