CLEVELAND ROCKS! Posts: 2,429 Group: Veterans Member #142 Joined: May 22, 2005	Still looking for an epic Halloween costume.... Thoughts? The only things off limits are my costumes from the last 3 years. (Chilean Miner, Heisman Trophy, and a Grandma) Bonus points for current events/controversial figures.

What about something themed from your college or your state? Obscure historical costumes FTW! Local News Article Becoming a vampire doesn't take much effort. Chew on plastic fangs and slather on white and black paint then throw on a black outfit and cape. But a Halloween costume that requires more brain power gains a lot more attention. To help in the quest for a more clever, or at least a little more interesting, costume, we've suggested ensembles with local themes, inspired by the culture of the Cape Fear and relying on local costume designer Catherine Bayley to put them together. TV & Films -Teen mom Jenelle Evans: The HBO series “True Blood” already spoofed the Oak Island resident and reality MTV star when one of the characters dressed like a pregnant woman and said she was Jenelle Evans from “Teen Mom 2.” Evans was also on “16 and Pregnant.” So we stole the idea. Bayley used an Oak Island T-shirt, some Ugg-like boots and other accessories to bring this “character” to life. -Dress like the fisherman serial killer from the Southport-filmed “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” using a rain coat, hat and a hook. Borrow a meat hook to be authentic. -“The Crow”: black clothing and hair, white and black make-up. -A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, pizza slice optional. -Elmo from “Elmo in Grouchland”: Wrap up in red shag carpet. -The ear from “Blue Velvet”: This could be difficult, but you could also stick a paper ear to your shirt. Culture -Corpse Belle, Hell's Belle or Zombie Belle: A twist on the dead prom queen idea, in irreverent honor of the Azalea Festival. -An azalea blossom, also in honor of the N.C. Azalea Festival but requiring no ghostly makeup. -A blueberry, in honor of the N.C. Blueberry Festival in Burgaw. Local landmarks -The N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher: For our version, we chose a specific display, the jellyfish tank. Bayley used a box, plastic bags, bubble wrap, fishing wire and yarn. -Old Baldy Lighthouse on Bald Head Island: If you're old and bald, you don't need a costume. If you're not, wear a splotchy gray tube. The Battleship North Carolina, though we admit this level of difficulty is high. Local celebrities -Bob Jenkins, the father of Wilmington's walking tours. To pay homage to this iconic Wilmington storyteller and historian, you'll need shorts, a straw hat and a cane. -Michael Jordan, No. 23 Historical figures -Stede Bonnet, gentleman pirate -Rose Greenhowe, the Confederate spy -Whistler's mother, Anna Matilda McNeill Whistler, born in Wilmington in 1804. Grab a long black dress, a lace or white bonnet and a chair, and you're all set to sit.

Oh wait, I do have a suit of armor... I mean, I feel like it's kinda getting old, but the response I get always says otherwise. The suit itself is getting old. Five years old now. It's in bad repair and it's gotten a bit tight when I wear it. Well, I may just show up to school in armor on Halloween... again. There are some who haven't seen it.

Ehh, it's my last Halloween as a legal minor. I feel like I should take advantage of this. Hm. I have a car. I have a 4 foot tall trebuchet with a range of 50 feet. If I mount this on my roof and get a friend to drive while I launch eggs... I feel like the revolutionary coat would be hilarious when coupled with this.

Showings/live performances every other Friday at the local independent cinema. A Rocky Horror costume attracts fun conversation.
