Rouen Establishing order in Normandy was an even easier task than expected. The fall of French government had starved the people of the region, as outlaws and vandals ravaged the countryside, and many had fled to Irish-controlled Brittany or into the territories of the Colognian Papacy. Robert's skill and charisma as a leader raised a powerful army, and inspired the citizens of Normandy to take their lands back from the criminals that had control. Within a few months, his forces had established control from the Breton border to the Papal and Limbourgian borders, from the Channel down to the outskirts of Paris. The time had come for the next phase of his plan, and he came out to the balcony of his castle to address his people. "Good people of Rouen! Good Normans everywhere! I am Robert Plantagenet, and I have brought peace, stability and glory to the plains of Normandy! We are a strong people, too strong to simply be controlled by criminals. As such, I am reestablishing the Duchy of Normandy as a sovereign state to protect our interests and our standing amongst the world community. This could not have been accomplished without your hard work and dedication to a free society. However, our work is only beginning. Many Norman lands are still uncivilized, or under the control of those that do not truly have the spirit that a Norman must have. Make no mistake, however, we shall succeed because of our bloodlines, our honor, and our force of will. Take heart, good Normans, for today, we rule ourselves!" As the crowd cheered beneath him, Robert saluted his citizens before walking back into his throne room. He sat down, with Kara, his "wife" and Duchess by his side, and ran his hand over his signature hammer. It was true, however, that the battle had only just begun.

La Serenissima officially recognizes the Norman state. Though far, Venice also wishes to express interest in the prospects of trade and possible investments in the people of northern France. The proximity to the turbulent British Isles makes the Duchy of Normandy a possible victim of your more belligerent neighbors. As such, we would also seek to discuss terms of allegiance and, or protection of your state from foreign oppressors in the interests of preserving Venetian investments in the isles and what we hope can be a newfound friendship of our nations. ~ Doge Contarini ~ OOC: Without the English, Venice is going to need another ally up there! That, and the Duchy and Venice may get along far better than the English did given their more similar history/status. |

The Union of Falangist Republics recognizes the sovereignty of the Duchy of Normandy and warns it against making alliances with those who would think nothing of its exploitation.

OOC: I should clarify that the Republic isn't dead yet. That's going to become apparent very soon. IC: "I thank my counterparts across Europe for their recognition. As to the current circumstances within the American Confederacy in regards to their race relations, until they have reached an accord that is mutually acceptable to all affected parties, no relations shall be actively sought by the Duchy of Normandy with the CSA, and only informal contact will be accepted from the CSA leadership, should they care to seek it. I bear no ill will toward the Confederacy, but times are changing and their government must adapt, if it wishes to continue to call itself a democracy." -Robert III |

The Duke found this response rather humorous, but he felt that he needed to make a response to it.
OOC: Anyone who wants to start a specific diplomatic thread with the Normans, feel free to do so, or you can just send one of your diplomats to Rouen in this thread, or invite them to your nation. Robert's going to London, but you could meet with the Duchess or one of Robert's lieutenants. |
