I saw this yesterday actually... Ended having a dream about it last night. I was some guy working on Wall Street. I walked up, pulled out my wallet (which was about 100x thicker then my actual wallet :( ) and made it rain aka threw money in the air like you see in rap videos. I proceeded to get arrested for inciting a riot after the protesters stormed me, but I was somehow able to post bail w/o ever being booked and got on the subway to go who knows where... Can anyone interpret the deeper meaning of that? |

You mean getting on the Subway and going into a tunnel? I think we all know what that means. As to the protests on Wall Street - maybe if these loons spent as much energy looking for jobs they could be investing in Wall Street instead of being a big pain. |

What jobs? I get your point, but there don't seem to be very many jobs at all to get these days. I'm still stuck at the crap job I'm at, and I have a Bachelor's. |

I'm not sure if there is a central theme to it. Though I can't say I agree with the stuff I've been hearing. Thus, I downvote. |

I hate to be a grammar Nazi, but Flumes, please. Lan, there is a job out there for you, I guarentee. It will probably be in management and not involve your major, but the unemployment rate among college grads is around 4%, and about 4% of college grads are batshit or artists, so you WILL find a good, career-advancing job - just not in journalism, unless you go the free-lance path. Have you searched "technical writing" as a career? |

While they may not have a consistent focus or a thorough understanding of all the causes involved, they are reacting to some of the most visible examples of violently-enforced government privilege. To say, "get a job" without any thought for how these individuals' economic situations have been affected by the state-financial-industrial complex's systematic plundering of their wealth, the corporate-welfare-regulatory state's systematic assaults on their ability to become entrepreneurs, and the various other organized criminal activities of the imperial corporatist regime, is to blame the victim. |

Why'd you quote yourself? Yes, I've looked into technical writing, and applied to a couple of gigs here. Got an interview for one, but didn't get the job. That unemployment rate doesn't include the underemployed part-time workers (like me), people who gave up looking and went to grad school, or people who gave up looking altogether. Granted, I've got better odds than the average HS grad, but I'm still not particularly confident that I'd get something worth my time right now. Edited by Aelius, Sep 27 2011, 07:04 PM.

Provided it's still happening, I'm going to be down there the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th of the month. Also my expenses are officially outweighing my income at my current job, so I'm putting in notice, and putting every effort that I can into finding one that pays more than min. wage. But this is Vermont, and those who make jobs are not exactly willing to invest here due to an overabundance in regulation and such. And I'm not strictly looking in Vermont. VT, NH, ME, and MA's collective job listings are all under my nose. |

So, these are the demands being presented by the Occupy Wall Street group: Demand one: Restoration of the living wage. This demand can only be met by ending "Freetrade" by re-imposing trade tariffs on all imported goods entering the American market to level the playing field for domestic family farming and domestic manufacturing as most nations that are dumping cheap products onto the American market have radical wage and environmental regulation advantages. Another policy that must be instituted is raise the minimum wage to twenty dollars an hr. Demand two: Institute a universal single payer healthcare system. To do this all private insurers must be banned from the healthcare market as their only effect on the health of patients is to take money away from doctors, nurses and hospitals preventing them from doing their jobs and hand that money to wall st. investors. Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment. Demand four: Free college education. Demand five: Begin a fast track process to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end while at the same bringing the alternative energy economy up to energy demand. Demand six: One trillion dollars in infrastructure (Water, Sewer, Rail, Roads and Bridges and Electrical Grid) spending now. Demand seven: One trillion dollars in ecological restoration planting forests, reestablishing wetlands and the natural flow of river systems and decommissioning of all of America's nuclear power plants. Demand eight: Racial and gender equal rights amendment. Demand nine: Open borders migration. anyone can travel anywhere to work and live. Demand ten: Bring American elections up to international standards of a paper ballot precinct counted and recounted in front of an independent and party observers system. Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all. Debt forgiveness of sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans now! All debt must be stricken from the "Books." World Bank Loans to all Nations, Bank to Bank Debt and all Bonds and Margin Call Debt in the stock market including all Derivatives or Credit Default Swaps, all 65 trillion dollars of them must also be stricken from the "Books." And I don't mean debt that is in default, I mean all debt on the entire planet period. Demand twelve: Outlaw all credit reporting agencies. Demand thirteen: Allow all workers to sign a ballot at any time during a union organizing campaign or at any time that represents their yeah or nay to having a union represent them in collective bargaining or to form a union. These demands will create so many jobs it will be completely impossible to fill them without an open borders policy. http://occupywallst.org/forum/proposed-list-of-demands-for-occupy-wall-st-moveme/ |

Some of them are actually contradicting. I know that the movement is extremely broad, but this is just one of the more popular proposals that I've seen. Actually, they just added an Admin's note saying this isn't an official list of demands. |
