- Semitistan National Press - Terrorist bombing
-
A bomb has been detonated in the Arab village of Al-Shajarah today killing three people and injuring ten. It has been suspected that the Jewish separatist movement of "Eretz-Zion" was responsible although no evidence has been found. General Zidavoc Hivanovich and the secretive SS4 have been hard at work in tracking down those responsible in an effort which shall see to it that these terrorists are brought to "a swift and brutal justice" as Hivanovich said. Separatist movements have plagued Semitsitan's nation almost immediately after its inception; both Arab and Jewish. This conflict has led the country to be one of espionage, mystery and assassins. Yet General Hivanovich has vowed to fight against this to the very end.

- Semitistan National Press - Declaration of borders
-
Following a violent revolution and civil war that threatened to tear Semitistan into two warring nations and the first round of elections, Semitistan has now fully declared it's legal borders.
President Morderchai said in a statement "we as a nation have witnessed horrific events in the name of the recent civil war. But with our effort and determination, the tyranny of a loud minority over a majority has ended. We have now redefined our borders and built up our once collapsed government. At first, we were soft and careful in realizing our dream of a nation that unites the Hebrew and Arabian Semitic peoples, but make no mistake that we will be harsher than ever towards those who will disturb the peace."

- Semitistan National Press - Government prepares to cut military spending
-
Defence minister of the Democratic Socialist party, Ziyad Bakri has announced preparations to cut military spending in the coming year, despite pressure to increase spending by the military.
General Musa Ben-Yishai said "Out of all the times that the military needs funding, now is the most urgent. Having just recovered from a violent civil war we need the resources to keep the peace."
Despite the pressure, Mr. Bakri replied with an official statement: "Indeed, we are just recovering from a violent civil war. But the only reason that this war was so violent was because weapons were readily available; and a monolithic and overbearing army was used as a tool. It is true that we will cut spending, but it is also true that we will spend more efficiently; focusing on preventative measures to keep the peace, as opposed to fighting violence with violence. We shall expect the special forces unit, SS4, to be very active in the future."

- Semitistan National Press - compulsory military service introduced
-
As part of the Efficient Military Initiative (E.M.I.), Defence Minister Ziyad Bakri has made further changes to the military with the introduction of compulsory military service, for a period of two years, for all those over the age of eighteen.
A small group of conscientious objectors have raised concern that fighting or violence is not part of their morality, and that military service is an immoral compulsion as a result.
Despite that, the Ministry of Defence has stated that those who oppose fighting will receive non-combat administrative roles within the armed forces, or serve in the newly established Humanitarian Aid wing of the Army.
Ziyad Bakri also warned the citizens of the Federation of Semitistan in a statement.
"Passing judgement and being intolerant brings suffering. I urge all citizens to refrain from name calling and discrimination against conscientious objectors no matter how patriotic you think you may be. If you truly love your country, I expect you to do your best to keep the peace."
The E.M.I. comes after a violent and brutal civil war, to ensure that there is a proportionate balance of military strength, and building up brotherhood and friendship among the citizens of Semitistan.

- Semitistan National Press - Zionist Outpost taken over by Semitistani forces
-
A contingent of Semitistani soldiers were deployed today and have taken over an outpost to the north of Semitistan in no-man's land.
The outpost was inhabited by militants of the notorious terrorist group, Eretz-Zion. They suffered a loss of twenty five men with another five being held captive, while the Semitistani force suffered two wounded soldiers.
According to reports, there are hundreds of these outposts located in this area, which were built by remnants of supporters of Eretz-Zion, a Jewish separatist group. Most are supporting entire families with women and children.
Ziyad Bakri, the defence minister, has called an emergency meeting concerning these developments to assess the situation.

Confederate News Broadcast: The People's Source for News
"Myself and the government of CMESS consider this a breach of Confederate security." Said Security Adviser Redeem Yidal, over the Confederate News Broadcast
"We will be asking the Semitistani Government to stop further incursions into the Syrian Wilds, and to accept Confederate custodianship of the area. If our offer is rebuffed, we will negotiate a settlement."
Rumors persist that Yidal, who is ethnically Jewish, may secretly be supporting the Eretz-Zion terrorists. "These rumors are slanderous and blatant lies." Yidal responds. "We've just come out of a period of being an uncivilized area ourselves, why would I support terrorists in such an area?"
No response has yet been gathered form Chairman Muhammad Al-Judidi, who is still on a diplomatic mission in Istanbul.

OOC: Do you want to create a separate thread so that we may role play this a little bit? I am really liking your style by the way! Or if you want to carry it on here then that is no problem, but as this is the Semitistan National Press thread we will have to do it in the style of news reports as opposed to good ol' fashioned story telling.

- Semitistan National Press - Arab Independence Movement releases tape demanding independence
-
The Arab Independence Movement, classed as a terrorist organization by the government, has released a new video tape demanding that the capital, and everything else to the East, should become a separate Arab state.
So far, the government has stated that negotiations over this issue are completely out of the question. They have also announced the start of operations to try and neutralize any terrorist cells from the group.
Ziyad Bakri, the defence minister, said in an official statement "we must not forget how the AIM operate. Their involvement in the Arab Jewish civil war showed that they were just as brutal as those of Eretz-Zion. I would like to encourage all citizens to stay vigilant and to stand together as one nation".

- Semitistan National Press - Explosion in Ishal neighbourhood of Herzliya
-
An explosion has rocked the neighbourhood of Herzliya in the capital of Ishal at 11:49 pm.
One person was killed and five injured outside a locally well known cafe, Minas.
The Arab Independence Movement has officially claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming that it was a suicide bombing and that it was to "force the government to pay attention to the self determination of the Arab people in Semitistan".
The minister of defence, Ziyad Bakri, gave an official statement, saying that "the attack is nothing short of terrorism. And we will be investigating the methods employed to carry out this operation." The ministry has also announced that the claim that it was a suicide bombing is most likely true, but has released no further details.
The Arab Independence Movement has been operating since 1970, fighting for Arab autonomy within the diverse country of Semitistan with Ishal and everything to it's east becoming a capital.
