A demonstration took place today in Green Square of Semitistan City where demonstrators have asked for the implementation of Shari'ah law. Approximately two hundred people participated.

They clashed with other demonstrators also numbering two hundred who wanted to implement the Halakha, the collective body of Jewish Law. Unlike previous clashes, this one seemed to be of a more violent nature as demonstrators carried weapons such as sticks, bats and knives. Six Islamic demonstrators and four Jewish demonstrators were arrested following the violence, under the charge of assault.

When asked to comment, Police Chief of Semitistan City, Ahmad Nawari said "To have a demonstration and express your view is something that is welcomed here, but violence cannot be tolerated especially when aimed at police officers and riot police. We arrest those who commit this crime and deal with them harshly as an example to others. Violence, especially in a demonstration, is not only considered assault, but also an attempt to remove the victim's freedom of speech."

Two police officers were lightly injured, and two demonstrators, one Jewish and one Arab, have been fatally wounded from knife attacks. When asked to comment, one peaceful Islamic demonstrator said "I apologize on behalf of the Muslim community in Semitistan City for any injuries received by the Jewish people. I wanted to express my views and not attack anyone, but there are others who are more extreme and who will use demonstrations as a platform for fighting."

It is undoubted that Semitistan is a country of diversity, but whether the General Commander Hivanovich and his trusted police force can keep this diversity in peace and in a good relationship remains to be seen.
