Borders Crossed

With international camera crews and correspondents poised to cover the unfolding events, the Aghaban Ground Forces' 2nd, 4th and 5th Infantry Divisions, made their way from the Northern Command base outside of Zgharta, towards the derelict border crossing with the former state of Hallistar. A crowd of civilians on the Hallistarian side of the border watched in part awe, part desperation. Jubilant and cheering, the soldiers arrived at the unmanned checkpoint, some 70 miles southeast from where the boundaries of Aghaba, Talibastian, and Hallistar meet. The convoy of supply/personnel trucks and light reconnaissance vehicles came to a halt in perfect view of the news crews' cameras. Emerging from the lead vehicle was Northern Army Commander General Stanislav Bishara, along with Major Generals Abdullah Chevalier, Tarek ibn Malluk, and Vladimir Masyaf.

"It is high time that Aghaba extend her reach beyond the constraints of her current border," bellowed General Bishara to the world, his men in the background, full of pride and vigor. "I have been ordered by my superiors in Al Abad, to liberate the people of this troubled land, and bring them under the same glorious flag I, and all of my countrymen so proudly salute!" The General paused for a moment, turning to face the throngs of people on the other side of the fence. He raised his left hand to them, and saluted with his right. "It is understood that these people require our aid, and we are here to provide for them! As we make our way through the land, we ask that all of those seeking the glory and advantages of Aghaban citizenship display the Aghaban flag in their townships, cities and villages. It is an absolute guarantee that within forty-eight hours, humanitarian aid in the form of food and other valuable commodities shall be air-dropped and handed out through the military. It is the deepest wish of the Aghaban people to see our nations achieve a greater harmony, and we only hope that the international community would like to see the same."

With his speech concluded, the gates to what was once Hallistar were opened, and the Aghaban troops poured in. The men, women, boys and girls who watched and listened intently to General Bishara cheered as the army made its way north. The intent was to reach the capital city of Adelaide as soon as possible, however the logistical tail of the exploratory force required some reworking, resulting in a slower-than-expected pace for the Infantry.

At roughly the same time as General Bishara's address, tens of civilian cargo vessels were being loaded up with food, clothing and other necessities in Aghaba's Port Aswad. Also preparing for a voyage at the neighboring Aswad Naval Base were supply vessels of the Military Maritime Fleet, intent on heading to the port of Adelaide on a humanitarian assistance mission. Sailors, cranes and transport vehicles were tirelessly working at the bustling port. The Aghaban flag flew proudly from all vessels, clearly visible to any would-be onlookers.

Alexanderhaven protests this action, as it is causing disruption of the construction of the Trans-Babylonian Railroad. The Alexanderhavenite Army is maintaining a presence in the anarchic territory of Hallistar to facilitate the construction of the railroad and thus requests that Aghaba ceases and desists from activity here. Alexanderhaven's complaints do not extend to any actions in Talibastian.

- Statement from the Office of the Holy Regent of Alexanderhaven

OOC-

I really need to settle on a denonym for my people. Alexanderhavenien, Alexanderhavenian, Alexanderhavenite, Royal Kasnyian? GAHHHHHHH!!!

Also, mapmakers, consider this an official contention and challenge of the expansion into Hallistar.

The Aghaban Foreign Ministry regrets the news that the incursion into Hallistar is causing difficulty for the Trans-Babylonian Railroad project. The movement of personnel across Hallistarian territory has no intention of interrupting the workings of The Royal City-State of Alexanderhaven. The Foreign Ministry and Head of State invite policy makers to discuss this matter in a move to avoid any further agitation.

Signed,
Abed Moutad, Foreign Minister.

OOC:

Haha, different denonyms for different occasions? Alexanderhavenite has a certain potence to it, and Alexanderhavenian seems more regal ^^

In Santa Fe, every major news network was focused on the Aghaban invasion of Hallister. Talking heads debated the morality of the invasion and its supposed humanitarian justification. Special guests discussed the complicated questions of foreign policy: Would the Roman Empire or Paradise intervene? How would this affect the oil pipelines and the Trans-Babylonian Railroad? What about the spread of democracy in the Middle East? As always with the American people, viewers would keep their eyes glued on the happenings of the Middle East. Until, that is, they got bored of it, and news coverage would return to celebrity gossip and pseudo science.

Amidst the news regarding oil and democracy, it was reported that looting in Hallister's capital had resulted in the loss of a number of important artifacts from Hallister's National Museum. Fortunately, many of these priceless ancient treasures were found and returned. Unfortunately, the records were destroyed by rioting, so it was not determined what artifacts remained missing.

God-Emperor Hirak-Al Voramix pruned another bad bulb from his rose bush, keeping the plant beautiful and pristine. One of his military's intelligence officers entered the courtyard garden and he turned his head to acknowledge the man. Following a steep bow from the officer, he promptly reported to the God-Emperor the expansion made by Aghaba. Snorting, the God-Emperor merely waved his hand dismissively to the officer and returned to trimming his rose bush, ordering the man not to return unless he had something important to report.

OOC: Kasnyia and I have made an agreement dividing the Hallistar territory between us. To Alexanderhaven goes the West, and to Aghaba goes the East.

OOC- Wait, what? The East is the side closest to Scy with the capital and coastline. I thought you were getting that while I was getting the side closest to our borders and the hinterland in general? But yeah, we made a deal.

Following the concessions made at the meeting between the Aghaban and Alexanderhavenite leaders, great celebrations were seen in Al-Abad. Citizens were ecstatic over the news of the annexed territory. The city of Adelaide, a long time hot-spot for Aghaban tourists was now under their own banner, as were a wealth of natural resources and extra coastline which would be critical in further development of the nation. Former Hallistarian citizens seemed divided over the news of their fate, with a loud minority protesting the annexation -so far, no violence has been reported.

With the acquisition of a healthy new amount of sea access, the Aghaban Military Maritime Fleet has announced a reshuffle of command, and a total overhaul of the Navy. Further details are pending.

As a gesture of goodwill, Defense Minister Nikolai Aoun has offered a number of military engineers to assist in the construction of the Trans-Babylonian Railway, should their labor be necessary.

The engineers were accepted with a warm thanks, and Aghaba was, like Khorasan, given a minority share in the railroad as well, with small branches of the line going to Aghaba's cities.

The Emira and her administration applaud this noble action on the part of the Aghaban government. The former lands of Hallistar have been in turmoil, and the Abnari are grateful for the stability that this annexation will provide. Peacekeeping forces are standing by should Aghaba need any assistance maintaining order in the coming months.

- Official statement from the office of the Emira

OOC: Yeah, that's right, Abnar posted in an IC forum. Banner day.

Head of State Marshal Baba composed this letter, addressed to Emira Nadia al-Faruk of The Emirate of Abnar:

"Greetings your Excellency,

I would like to personally extend my gratitude to you and your administration for commending the outcome of the situation in Hallistar. As of this moment, the use of foreign peacekeeping forces is not required, yet you have the great thanks of the Aghaban people for the most gracious offer. Concerning military operations, our commanders seek communication with your own on the possibility of cooperation on matters of importance, at present as well as the future. I, as well as my Foreign Minister, have discussed the possibility of the construction of embassies between our nations, and would be eager to hear your reaction to such a proposal.

Signed,

Marshal Sevastian Baba."

The military engineers committed to working on the Trans-Babylonian Railway have been joined by a sizable group of contractors intent on expediting the completion of the project. Citizens of cities receiving this rail access have been naught but optimistic, warming the population's feelings towards Alexanderhaven and Kasnyia at large.

"An exchange of embassies is a most agreeable proposition. The Royal Palace is prepared to receive a delegation to oversee construction of the Aghaban embassy in al-Isbunah, as well as any other representatives for matters you wish to discuss.

Her Most Enlightened Highness,
Emira Nadia al-Faruk"
