Move up to Vermont. I've been a substitute teacher at two different schools simply by showing up and asking for the forms.

=/
Haha, wow...Really? How'd you hear about that and/or figure it out?

That thought is a bit scary  Although you obviously didn't stab anyone, no student tried to stab you, and the school wasn't destroyed in some horrific manner....in my books that's a good day!

As for my rant, apparently venting and or ranting echoes louder than I thought given that about an hour or so after my rant I got a call and had my final interview this morning. Hopefully I'll be subbing as early as next week.

To be fair, my mother's a retired teacher, my father was a teacher, my aunt's still a teacher, my step-father's a custodian/school board member for a school, so I've had a fair chance to do some networking.

But yeah, try to get more entrenched in networking. Or better yet, try to find some teaching-related jobs. I came pretty close to applying to be a teen behavioral interventionist. A family friend (former teacher to boot) had a hand in the program I was applying to and it would have been a very easy way to dive into the world of teaching, build references, and all that fun junk.

And NRE, I'd still suggest the JET program to you. I feel like teaching English in Japan is an incredibly solid thing to add to a resume. haha

Let this be a warning to those of you trying to be a responsible adult.

Reading that makes me feel like a responsible adult of my generation. Actually it looks like something that's very much a product of the Cold War era. You work hard as hell and you win, then bam, because that generation was so accustomed to having either won or lost (missile crises, space races, the Cold War in itself) it's like once there's an accomplishment that throws a switch in your brain that says, "Well, good job. Time to stop." It's weird looking at US history, once something's accomplished the ball is completely dropped.

Meanwhile I'm being a product of my generation and being incredulously reevaluative. I spent $11,000 on my new car/insurance/warranty/fees/title/registration/unicorn and realized, "I don't have to pay anything for anything for another several months! Cool!" so I'm redoing the neverending process that is my budget.

I was expecting upwards of $450/month in car-related finances. That's down to around $100/month. No car payments, and I definitely over-estimated my insurance costs (something I plan to continue doing through life). I'm pretty stoked.

Well, I'm at least going to get out of Wal-Mart, finally. Enterprise turned me down for a management trainee program, but I got a job working customer support at a call center for AAA. It's full time and pays $11/hour, and I'll take it, but I still wonder if I could be doing better. A win's a win, though; a half-step forward at least.

Do the math man, $11/hour full time is a living wage. Congrats!

I know it's better and that's why I'm taking it. I just don't know if I can actually do call center work.

You will do it because you need to. You won't like it, but it is necessary. You just have to bide your time until you can get something better.

Sorry to hear the Enterprise thing fell through, but call center work is pretty good as long as they aren't dicks about it. Stick it out, but keep your eyes open, something else will come your way.

Oh, congrats for escaping WalMart hell!

I cannot stress enough how great it is to see people get out from under them, and into something a little higher.

Good on you, mate.

Indeed congrats, think of it as good experience on people skills. I imagine if you can handle the highs and lows of a call center and WalMart, you'll be ready to take on the world!

At least it's money I can survive on. The offer letter extrapolated out my hourly rate to an annual equivalent: $22,880. Makes $11/hour sound a lot more impressive.

My car's officially paid for, and I have winter tires on. I don't have to finance a thing for 6 months until I get another insurance bill. Then that's another 6 months. Feels good man.

But my prospective landlord doesn't like my rental application, if only because I don't have a housing history. So basically, this is officially more difficult than establishing a credit history. haha

Today was my last day working in retail. No more Walmart for me. And how do I celebrate it? By mixing Wild Turkey 101 with both Pepsi Throwback and with limeade. Both turned out well, surprisingly. (Mods can copy or move this to alcohol if they wish.)

I'm signing a lease tomorrow, moving out at the end of the week. FINALLY TECHNICALLY LEGALLY INDEPENDENT.

Well good for you! Next step, house with picket fence, 2.5 kids, mortgage up to your eyes and nagging but loving wife with a "honey do" list as long as your arm!

Isn't it 2.2 now?

That's just enough for a nervous system, pain receptors, and life support!

If Ulgania has a child, NSWR reserves the right to decided and vote on the name of the child.

I am fairly certain this is in the terms and agreement every member must agree to. If not, it should be.
