Yeah, Brazil is huge! I'm only now starting to comprehend the distances involved here when travelling. |

So I pile-drived an interview today. I'm an Internet Marketing Specialist. And I have a salary. $22k/year isn't that much, but. Holy shit. This is cause for celebration. I'll see you guys in the alcohol topic. |

Congratulations man! That actually sounds like a pretty interesting job, and marketing should get you some experience to apply to your tearoom when the time comes. Good job! |

Thanks guys. And Time Lord Man, I like it. Haha. But yeah, this is the end result of 50 miles of commuting for 5 or 6 days a week for 3 months, networking like a boss, and being more than a little clever with computers. |

Good work. Did you try to get the easiest raise you'll ever have a chance to get? |

Congrats! An don't worry Lans, you're still not alone as far as jobs go. That said, I'll be interviewing next week (hopefully) for substituting which is a great foot-in-the-door for me and my chosen career. |

Is that really easy? I'm the sort of person who, by temprement, is averse to any kind of bargaining, but I figure I should learn these things. |

I have asked for more starting pay on every job I have taken, and I have seldom been turned down (well, once I got rediculous and asked for a years salary in an excrow account because I thought the company would go under - didn't really want to work there anyway). I mean, they have already made you an offer. If you are polite about it, explain why you could use more (I usually used having to re-locate), the worst they could say is "no". They will not yank the original offer. This last job I not only got $5,000 more a year in salary but an additional $5,000 signing bonus tax free to help with moving expenses. |

I'm discouraged with the job market again. Are there any worthwhile job openings anywhere that I'd actually be able to get? It feels more and more like there's no way out of the service industry for me. There's no work here for my degree, and I honestly don't know if there is anywhere. I'm about ready to just give up and go live in a fucking cave. :( |

What about obtaining technical training? IIRC Elytheria-Duo finds consistent employment repairing appliances. Something such as that may hold you over until the white collar job market improves. |

When I was asked I said, and I quote, "$11/ or $12/hour, or the salary equivalent therein," which we both knew meant I was asking for $20k. This job is as entry level in the company as it gets, and after determining my finances in the next year, including new car payments, a tripling of my student loan payments, rent, savings, etc... Also, after my first few weeks about 90% of my work will be from home. Heh. |

[Rant]You know I'm not one for phone conversations. In fact, if I can get out of having to call someone on the phone (either by emailing them or, preferably, speaking with them in person) I will do it. But you know, its piss-pour that having called three administrations at three different elementary schools in the past week and leaving I know at least two to three messages at each, not one....ONE administrator has called me back to setup an appoint! I called the first middle school on my list, got an appointment for a substitute interview right on the spot. I called the first high school on my list, left a message and ended up speaking with someone by the end of that day. But elementary, nothing, nada, zilch. I mean hell, just tell me you don't want to do an interview and let me move on instead of waiting and waiting for a call back I'm never going to get. Its ridiculous and a poor show if you ask me because while I may not like to talk on the phone, I'll at least return a call in a timely manner or make the attempt to do so. [/Rant] |

I agree. A simple, "Sorry, we are not interested at this time," call does not take long at all. If they are close by you should drop in and ask them in person for a response. |

Move up to Vermont. I've been a substitute teacher at two different schools simply by showing up and asking for the forms. =/ |
