What do you do in retail? Try getting some experience behind the scenes. I mean, I'm in retail, but I'm never on the floor or behind a register. I'm all receiving and marketing. Hell, tomorrow I have a meeting with an online marketer who's likely to give me a job offer if only because I've gotten to know him through working with him. Try a little networking.

Anywho.

Got approved for a credit card yesterday. From the Gap. Yeah. That's right. Shitty card, high interest. And I'm paying it off as soon as I get info on it. But it's also a Visa card. First credit card man. On the other hand my wardrobe's revamped, and I'm not broke. Huh.

Wal-Mart.

Luckily, I'm not a cashier, I just stock stuff most of the time (usually meat), but I'm so sick of the low pay, part-time hours and general lack of dignity that comes from such a job. There's no real creativity or freedom in the job, and it just doesn't pay enough to be worth dealing with the bullshit.

Instead of a TV, maybe a projector, laptop, and screen? At least at first until a TV can fit in the budget.
Screens you don't need not stink'n screens! Just use the screen money to paint a wall or two white an project on them

I would strongly recommend using that card once, paying it off immediately, so that you have established credit, and then never using it again, or any other. Credit cards are a trap, and will destroy you financially with false promises.

Alternatively, use it to buy gas, and almost nothing else, and make sure the balance is paid off every month. Then again, I have an actual credit card from my bank.

Rather not even get one in the first place. I don't need no steenkin' credit card.

I'm liking this tea-shop/movie-theatre/video-game-stadium more and more. So, Ulg, need any free labor?

You need to incorporate these additions into your shop in order to maximize profits.

--Chinese take out restaurant-- Hire a Chinese cook, who is preferabbly a quasi-legal alien and doesn't speak English, therefore ensuring his social isolation and loyalty to you
--Mexican bus boys-- hard workers and non-rebellious
--Beer and liquor bar-- Profits$$$
--Overpriced hits on the hookah pipe (key)
--Acquire second hand big screen TVs on the cheap from police auctions and foreclosure auctions
--Open/concealed carry welcome
--Hire attractive high school girls as waiters to drum up business

I saw your "Loose Leaf" merchandise and IMO it looks too genteel, and potentially undistinguishable from the dozens of other anonymously genteel tea houses in the arts district/gay district. Therefore you need to position your shop as a strange, Blade Runner-esque neighborhood gathering place rather than a pure tea shop per se.

I like all of TC's ideas, particularly the beer/liquor. :P

As for a theme... Steampunk tea house. That is all.

That's all well and good, but 'good' credit will get me a lot farther and business ventures than 'established' credit.

Hell, I probably wouldn't have gotten loans for school if my family's credit was simply established.

On top of that I've had a credit card through my dad since I was 16. And I've used it twice. I thinnnnk I have restraint. haha. But not to be too cruddy of a realist. It's not simple being 22 and trying to work with a system. And I'm the one with a philosophy degree.

Steampunk tends to imply post-apocalyptic.

Actually, there's even a steampunk's guide to the apocalypse.

If this will be opening in a Gay neighborhood, I strongly suggest a mix of hot young high school girls AND boys for your wait staff.

Well, okay, but only if the van is steam-powered, armored (to protect against zombies,) and Gay.

Just hire a hot Gay driver for the van, oh and might want to make sure it doesn't seem outwardly creepy...might be bad for business.

I was hoping to really ooze creepiness.

You know, just exude it all over the place.

Let it really seep into things.
