You bite your tongue. Not all of them come from the East Coast. One of my best friends went into the Marines and just now got the last of the hardware removed due to injuries sustained in a HMMVW hit by an IED in Afghanistan. Shaven head I will give you, but God knows he's never worn Abercrombie and Fitch, and he's driving a beater-ass car like a real man.
Don't get me wrong, they're all great people for the most part. Most of my family were Marines at one one point. They just tend to have a very observable stereotype.

Wow congrats.

In other new I just bought a vehicle. Would have bought a brand new one (I can afford it), but because the high probabilty of me being stationed overseas for 2 years I decided to get a used one for now
Stay with a used one. I'm not sure if its different elsewhere, but the soldiers on the west coast, mainly marines, always found it necessary to buy a suped up car.

There are a couple identifying factors in a Marine.

1. Shaven head.
2. Abercrombie & Fitch clothing.
3. Large backpack.
4. Always will have a nicer/more expensive car than you.

Its kinda sad actually. They all come from the east coast, so all they know about the lifestyle here is what they see in TV and advertisements, so they end up buying tight fitting clothing that only big burly gay men wear.
Hey, are you mocking my clothing choices? And how do YOU know what big burly gay men wear, hmm? Been hanging out at certain beaches we don't know about, hmm?

As to the car - what did you buy, T.O.??

This is what I get for quietly observing. I'll stop now.

In my neck of the woods the men who wear tight fitting shirts are the military wannabes. They are civilians who have never had a lick of military training or experience and they work at fluorescent-lighted office jobs but claim their "backup plan" in life is joining the rifle corps in Afghanistan. Godspeed

I believe the shiny cars thing is true, from my limited datapoints. Also my friend who is a military psychologist at a large VA hospital claims that his vets have a notably high rate of buying souped up cars. The speculation is that the servicemen are more interested in high adrenaline situations than civilians are.

Also, it would seem like the kind of thing the average person would buy when they received their active duty enlistment bonus.

Well, have a new temporary address in Tomball, TX while I find a house, and will be moving on Feb. 29th, so might be off-line till I arrange for an ISP at the new address. Also have carpet-bombed the Lone Star Junior College System with applications in everything I could teach, from theatre tech, humanities, English and Stage managing, both full and part time. If I get a part-time position I will keep my full-time job; if I get a full-time position I will go part-time at my current job! Looking at homes with pools and backyard spas only! I plan to retire in comfort in a few years (not wealth, but comfort!).

Texas? You've actually visitable now. By me anyways. And Aelius.

EDIT: Still a 7 hour drive, but I do that all the time. And it's only a couple hours away from where I live in Louisiana.

Anyone else live near enough by? Or are most of you still a bunch of coasters?! Ironically, this kind of makes NH a coaster, given the close proximity of the Gulf Coast, but that's different.

You'd all be welcome. As to Austin, about 100 miles, I think.

Yeah, 100 miles is not far anywhere. For me, 500 miles isn't even really that far. Pretty damn far, but nothing like 1000 or 1500. 100 miles can be done within a couple hours, 500 within the day, 1000 can sometimes be made in a straight shot, but 1500 you are going to have to stop somewhere for the night. Probably better to take a plane in that case.

Not yet. For now, I'm saving every penny so I can pay for a decent language immersion school.

First day of new job is today. I'm not used to being up before 7 am. Have to be there at 8:30 today. Waking up before sunrise is going to take some getting used to, though.

Pussy! Get your ass up! Rise and shine! Rise and shine! Eat you breakfast! It's the most important meal of the day! What's that! You don't have time?! Well make the time, you motherfucker! AAAAAAAAH!

Imagine that being said in my drill sergeant voice. Or my excessively loud voice. Either one works. Also, I'd wake you up by saying rise and shine in a Southern accent while flipping the light switch on and off. My dad did that to me once. Very annoying, but quite funny to look back on.

If you rather, you can imagine myself waking you by dropping a freshly brewed cup of coffee on you? I'm up at 6 to get to school by 7 every day.

Up by 6:30 every day to get ready for work and have breakfast!!! When in Chicago with my LONG communte I was up at 5:30 every day to catch the train into the city. Not too many of us working stiffs are going to have much sympathy for you. Maybe you should have taken more morning classes in school to prepare you for this!!!

Waking up early is easy, in my opinion, despite everyones complaints about it. I prefer the times between dusk and dawn most since no one else is functional, if conscious.

That, and I just have no need of sleep. ^^

I HATE mornings. I'm a nightime person. Most days I sleep in to about 11 or 12.
